She pulled the invisibility cloak tighter over herself, taking in deep, steady breaths. The streets of Godric's Hollow were calm, still, not a person in sight as it was rather late; in the houses of the muggles in the area, you could see the telly flickering through the windows. Alice couldn't see the Order members hidden about the town, but she had a rough idea of where they were all located. It was strange to have the upper hand for once, but she knew it wouldn't last for long, no matter how pessimistic a thought. The tip to Dumbledore had arrived with a good amount of time before nightfall and had given the Order a lot of time to prepare for whatever was going to strike the small village.

James had been adamant about being one of those to go and find Sirius, but it was obvious that with his past relations with the death eaters that they couldn't risk it. Alice knew that Frank was eager to help as well, but it was finally decided on who was to stay and who was to go, and things would just have to deal.

Alice slowly made her way through a garden of one of the small cottages. She couldn't help but peer through the kitchen window, eyes softening at the sight of a daughter helping her mother was the dishes. These people were completely innocent; why had Voldemort decided to attack this village? Surely it couldn't be because wizards and muggles were living together, Hogsmeade was the only all-wizarding village and he'd already attacked there twice.

Quickly, she put up a ward on the houses' windows, feeling a guilt rise up in her at not being able to warn the family about what was to happen. She saw the flare of a spell before she heard it erupt, and Alice gripped her wand tighter, sending one last look toward the window before heading out into the starts of the fray.

[ooc] consensus says that we'll do both the thread and the ooc post; try and get your characters in, but if you can't, head back to the ooc post and relate what you'd like to happen there. Other people (with Order members/death eaters/aurors/etc) can tag to those comments with ideas they have, and so on. Have fun!

Had the guy actually just told him to ... yes, yes he had. He'd asked him to drop his wand. Braith had to stifle the laugh into the back of his hand as he threw a disarming hex at Berk. The man might've been approaching him, but Braith was doing the same - drawing their fight away from the houses and the crowd. Not that he'd admit to such a thing and he was fairly certain that Berk wouldn't notice, but there it was.

He would admit that he was very much glad that it was Berk and not some other Auror. If he hurt the guy he would feel considerably less guilt. Sure, it was unfair to hold a grudge when he was the one who'd broken up with Amelia ... but still.

Self-preservation before all else.

This couldn't have been moving more smoothly, except when things went according to plan, that was usually the time to be concerned. Berk himself had been intentionally trying to force thee death eater away from the village, and it seemed to be working without little effort. No, he'd heard of too many stories of aurors falling into the traps laid out by You-Know-Who's cronies, and Berk was paying extra attention to his surroundings.

The disarming spell rebounded off a shield and Berkeley immediately sent the same spell back at the death eater, followed by a volley of stunning spells.

A startling scream was heard off to the side, and it was simply in his instinct to turn toward it. Flinching greatly, Berk caught sight of another death eater, who had just blown in the door of a nearby cottage. He could see the woman in the kitchen, and without another thought he roared, "STUPEFY!" and knocked the death eater unconscious.

And that was the reason that Berk was an Auror and not a Death Eater. Perhaps not the only reason, but -- well, he could count on one hand the number of times that another Death Eater had gone to the rescue of a 'friend', nevermind a stranger.

"CONFRINGO!" Braith was very much fond of things exploding, and while he wasn't aiming for Berk (he was, rather, aiming for the stone wall not too far from him that looked like it would shatter rather nicely) he still made sure to keep his aim steady. He narrowly escaped the disarming spell and blasted up his own shield, although he wasn't sure how long it was going to last with the stunning spells barraging him.

Well, shit.

In shock of seeing the wall tumbling down, Berk thought of doing two things; disapparating and throwing up a shield. So--he did both, ending up a few meters from the initial collapse, and when he reappeared, watched as a few of the stones slid around the curve of his shield.

But, the structure wasn't able to hold up any longer, and the pressure on the shield finally began to falter. Not having the strength to disapparate again (and if he did, Berk was sure he'd end up splinching himself, his mind still wasn't back on track), he hurled himself away.

A sharp pain shot up his leg as a large brick landed on his foot, and he knew it was broken. Still, Berk pulled himself up, grimacing greatly as he sent another rally of spells (expelliarmus, stupefy, jelly-leg jinx), shooting up a red flare to inform the other aurors that he was injured.

There, that was exactly what he'd been waiting for. He watched the movements, tracked where Braith was disapparating from so that he could have his wand pointed at him the moment that he landed again. He felt the stupefying jinx hit his left arm and grimaced - it hung uselessly at his side and he glared hard at Berk before sending his own barrage back -- full-body bind curse, an expelliarmus of his own and a shocking hex of his own modification.

Braith really did want to get at the guy with his fists since that would result in less long-term damage and more satisfaction on his end and now that he was relatively immobilized by the broken foot (or so he liked to hope) Maybe he'd be able to get that wand away from him.

Then again, maybe not. He saw the flare from the corner of his eye and groaned. Now he'd be having a bit of trouble, wouldn't he? If the other Aurors came to his rescue, that was.

He deflected the first two spells, he could recognize those in his sleep, but the third caught Berkeley off guard and he could feel his eyes bulge at the electric sensation coursing throughout his body. It didn't last long, but it was enough to send him stumbling, and he almost lost all of his balance, but shooting a spell at the ground (something he and Mycroft liked to mess around with) pushed him up right again. Of course, this put pressure on his foot, but Berk had endured worse injuries on the job (he'd once gone a whole night with a piece of his skull exposed, that had been fun to explain to Conway--).

He heard voices, there would be others here soon, so all Berk needed to do was keep this man (could you really call a death eater a man, though?) away from where he could cause real damage. He felt like shit for not being able to do more, but he knew there was only time before his foot really started to become painful, and then he'd be of no use to the force.

"Diffindo!" he shouted finally, hoping the severing charm landed.

Oh, that was just what he needed. He'd felt a surge of triumph at the last spell but then he was having to deflect the severing charm and although he managed well enough for most of it, the tail-end of it caught him in the right arm and suddenly he was very much not a useful Death Eater. At least this legitimately put him out of commission for the rest of the fight and he couldn't be accused of copping out. There had been a few close calls between the Wilkeses watching him and Lestrange being on his case.

Braith grunted, pushing out the spell from his lung even though his arm was bleeding, "Petrificus Totalus!" Without looking to see whether that spell had landed, he closed his eyes and concentrated on apparating with a loud pop.
