There were very few times when Corner Conway was able to get clearance as quickly as he had today, but when one said words like 'mass casualty risk' and 'mixed villages' the higher-ups tended to listen. Merlin knew that Avis Tremaine shouting and flailing like a mad-woman didn't hurt when one was trying to get something done. At least she did well with annoying the proper ministers into action just so that she would shut the hell up about it already.
They apparated in with a loud crack along with the other Aurors and Corner scanned the area quickly, discerning just where would be best to start. Avis, he noticed, was already paired off with her husband and headed off to some place or another. He barked orders at a few of the newer Aurors - secure the perimeter, make sure that the muggle houses were well-protected and most importantly, watch for hexes and curses. You'd be surprised how many Aurors died like that, caught up in the moment and completely off-guard no matter how many times they'd gone through the training courses.
He swallowed, then, and turned on his heel to narrowly avoid a bright orange spell whirring past his head.
Merlin, he was getting too old for this.
