She squinted in the direction of the door; she wasn't wearing her glasses, but she knew who it was as soon as she heard his voice. "Caden," she said, her voice scratching painfully at her throat, "be nice." She watched from her helpless position on the bed as Santiago went and introduced himself to her older brother... why did this suddenly feel like a tense situation? Oh right. Because the guy she had been going googly-eyed over these past few days was standing in the same room as Caden. But still, it wasn't like they were dating or even like he liked her back, so why was her stomach turning like that?
She sounded like she was back at Hogwarts! But Merlin, he did have a nice-sounding resume, didn't he? Hunky, extremely successful doctor... how could she not swoon over him? But there were more pressing matters at hand.
Swallowing back her nausea, she struggled to push herself up into a seated position, wincing as her weak body resisted her brain's commands and left her right where she'd started. "I told you not to come," she reprimanded gently, settling with giving him a disapproving look from her reclined position. "It's contagious. And Doctor Santiago has been taking good care of me."
