Jolene :]
It would become obvious enough that Santiago was shifting his cases and moving up appointments for a reason. A few weeks ago, it could have been about Zacharias, but now with his nephew safe at home, Santiago was just hoping that the nurses and fellow healers didn't notice the times he was changing his rounds to, or the location of the patients he was visiting and checking up on.

Of course, Santiago made sure that all of this was legal. He did not want anyone to think that he was going around messing up schedules for no real reason, even though it was going to become painfully obvious that it was about a woman. Sue him---he'd never done anything like this before, so there was no track record to annoy him with.

The door to Jolene's room was open and thankfully empty save for the woman herself. Santiago had figured out quite quickly that she was the sister of one of the biggest quidditch stars in the game, and he did not want to have to deal with a giant of a man while he was trying to get into the good graces of his sister.

"And how are we doing today, Ms. Flint?" Santiago asked from behind his face mask, keeping his head down at his chart as he entered the room, and coming around the side of her bed. He fiddled with some of the floating x-rays beside her before looking down. Deus, even sickly she looked pretty (really pretty---this was going to get him in trouble), and Santiago turned to face her fully, but ended up knocking over the glass of water on her side table. He'd been so very clumsy these past few days! "Er---sorry."

She usually tried to sit up when Doctor Santiago came to see her. But today, her strength was simply not with her. He had been so nice to her these past few days; as a matter of fact, she was certain that if it hadn't been for his frequent visits and checkups this visit would have been unbearable at the very least. She couldn't remember the last time she felt this awful... everything ached, her vision was blurry, and her body couldn't make up its mind as to whether it was extraordinarily cold or burning hot. Right now she was clearly burning up, as the pale, ashen complexion of her face was graced with a sheen of sweat; snarls of her hair were sticking to her brow and the sides of her throat, and her breathing seemed a bit labored. But for Doctor Santiago? She would manage a smile, albeit a tiny one.

"Terrible," she croaked, turning her head slightly on the pillow so that she could look at him better. She didn't like it when he wore a mask, but understood it was out of necessity... from what she could make out, a lot of people had been rushing in with symptoms very similiar to her own. "And I'm sure I look just as bad as I feel." It was hardly ideal that she was here looking at her absolute worst when her doctor was two steps away from being a posterchild for absolute perfection. But Jolene was rather used to that feeling anyway, and so that last statement was said with whatever humor she could muster for the occassion. "How are you?"

She jerked a it in surprise when his arm suddenly sent her water toppling over, but she gave him a reassuring grin and shook her head. "It's ok. It's actually kind of nice to see someone else knocking things over for a change," she wheezed, and gestured vaguely to herself with a limp flick of her wrist. "I'm a terrible spaz."

His wand was out immediately, cleaning up the mess, and Santiago shook his head as he knew a flush had coursed its way up his neck and to his cheeks. Deus, really, just the way to make this woman think you were at least remotely competent.

"Ah---are you? I would not have guessed," he said kindly, replacing the water in her glass with a quick spell. At least he got to show off his handy and rather fast charm work. That would be impressive, yes?

...you are a healer, Santiago. Stop trying to flirt when this woman is ill. Smethwyck was already running the healing staff ragged with a new development he'd uncovered, think of that, and maybe Jolene's fever will not reach the terrible points he'd seen it take on other patients. Take your job seriously.

"I promise I am not a ah--spaz? I am not a spaz when it comes to healing." Looking over her vitals, Santiago nodded to himself a few times, "Your fever seems to have reached a plateau, which is very good, but we still need to watch it."

"I am," she assured him, then briefly closed her eyes as a wince crossed her features. Whenever she laid still for too long, her joints would suddenly burst in excruciating pain... everything from her knees to her knuckles. Shifting underneath the blankets, she jostled her body a bit to relieve the pressure before opening her eyes to watch him refill her glass once more with water. "I'm always... tripping over things and spilling things. And I'm not nearly as good with my charmwork as you are," she was sure to add. Merlin, even when her body was trying to kill her she found it within her to try and flirt with him.

Groaning, she stretched her legs out and swept trembling fingers through the sweaty mess of her hair, pushing it away from her burning flesh with a frustrated sigh. Honeyed orbs found his again when he informed her of her fever, and she gave him a dubious look from beneath her long lashes. "I feel like I'm just getting hotter," she confessed, her brows drawing together as she suffered. "And I've been having those crazy dreams at night... which are never fun." She chuckled breathlessly and gave him an apologetic grin. "I doubt listening to this hour after hour is much fun, either."

With a quick swish Santiago summoned the chair behind him and he was sitting in it before it had stopped moving. Thankfully his clumsy spells didn't affect his timing. That would have been horribly embarrassing, but thankfully he didn't have to suffer through that.

"One thing that is good about you feeling hotter," his ears burnt red, "is that it means your body is trying to burn out the virus on its own. That means it has recognized it as something foreign and harmful."

He nodded; that was good, she was reacting faster than the others, maybe watching Jolene so carefully was going to end up having more implications than just---staring. At her. He could definitely see the benefits of keeping an eye on her progress; she may be a catalyst in figuring out what the hell they were going to do with this disease.

"Well at least there's one good thing about it," she relented, watching with some amusement as he visibly stopped the chair short with the back of his legs. Even with the mask she could tell that he was blushing by the way the tips of his ears turned red; it was absolutely adorable. In fact, she was finding that she liked a lot about her doctor, and couldn't quite decide whether that was inappropriate or not. She was in the process of trying to come to that conclusion when another wave of feverish agony gripped her body, sending it writhing beneath the covers.

Once the pain had subsided, she slowly blinked her eyes open again to offer him a grimacing smile. "Nevermind. I still hate this. This is awful." She pressed her palms to her forehead and exhaled deeply. "You know," she said, looking at him sympathetically, "I really have to thankyou, Doctor Santiago. For being so nice to me. And coming to check on me. I like when you visit."

Merlin, had she just said that out loud? Now it was her turn to blush. She was definitely feverish.

Was she kidding?

Was she fucking kidding

Telling him not to come to Mungo's right after telling him that she had gotten the virus and actually expecting him to listen. Oh, that was brilliant. He sometimes forgot how funny his sister could be sometimes.

He had gotten the letter telling him that she was sick the opening night of Estella’s ballet, but the letter telling him even worse news came that day, right after he had put Marcus down for a nap. The owl that had been pecking at the window woke his son up, so not only did he have to deal with that, but he had to figure something out. He quickly owled Estella, practically begging her to watch Marcus since he had no other choice. He would have given him to his parents, or Finn, but he knew his Mum and Dad were already probably upset about their daughter getting a deathly virus, and Finn would probably wind up throwing Marcus out the window since he was particularly cranky that day. It was just like him to act up when Caden really needed him to be good. So, after dropping Marcus off at Estella’s, apologizing profusely for having to make her deal with him at the moment, and thanking her a million times for doing him such a big favor, he finally apparated to Mungo’s.

The nurses froze when they saw him, gawking as he approached them and asked where his sister was being kept. They didn’t respond at first, but made a weird vowel noise. Caden’s hands slammed down on the counter. “Listen, I’m not here for an autograph signing, I’m here to find my sister, so if one of you could do your fucking job that would be greatly appreciated.” They jumped and quickly started shuffling through files. Finally, one of them pointed down a hallway, told him the room number, and he started on his way, ignoring their warnings relating to how he shouldn’t go in there because the virus was contagious. At the moment, he didn’t care. He just needed to see Jolene.

When he got to her room, he stood in the doorway for a few minutes, staring in at his sister who looked so frail and weak, so unlike her usual bright and bubbly self. But her attention wasn’t on him. Her attention was focused on the Healer that was standing in the room with her. Naturally, this was where Caden’s attention drifted as well. His brow quirked and his arms crossed over his chest before he decided to speak. “Who the fuck are you?”

Santiago knew he had a bit of a stupid grin on his face as Jolene complimented him, and he'd leaned forward to joke, and maybe tease her for it, but he spotted her brother out of the corner of his eye and stood, smile still lingering on his face. Now, though, it turned into a bit of a surprised looking one as it was a shock to see a professional quidditch player, no matter how many have entered the hospital.

And---he'd just cursed at him, so that was another reason for surprise.

He looked down at his bright green robes for a moment, and then looked back up at Mr. Flint (he knew he name was Caden, how could you not, pero---) with a slightly amused expression on his face. Santiago swiped up Jolene's charts and came around the bed, hand out to the man.

"I'm Jolene's healer, Mr. Flint," he said with a nod, holding back the teasing wink, "Santiago Cervantes, Chief Resident of St. Mungo's, Spell Damage. I hope that answers your question."

No, no. He was a big brother too, he was not one to be intimidated.

She squinted in the direction of the door; she wasn't wearing her glasses, but she knew who it was as soon as she heard his voice. "Caden," she said, her voice scratching painfully at her throat, "be nice." She watched from her helpless position on the bed as Santiago went and introduced himself to her older brother... why did this suddenly feel like a tense situation? Oh right. Because the guy she had been going googly-eyed over these past few days was standing in the same room as Caden. But still, it wasn't like they were dating or even like he liked her back, so why was her stomach turning like that?

She sounded like she was back at Hogwarts! But Merlin, he did have a nice-sounding resume, didn't he? Hunky, extremely successful doctor... how could she not swoon over him? But there were more pressing matters at hand.

Swallowing back her nausea, she struggled to push herself up into a seated position, wincing as her weak body resisted her brain's commands and left her right where she'd started. "I told you not to come," she reprimanded gently, settling with giving him a disapproving look from her reclined position. "It's contagious. And Doctor Santiago has been taking good care of me."

Caden kept his eyes on the Healer who had just rattled on, giving him more information than he had asked. In all honesty, he was glad that this guy was the Chief Resident, but he wasn't about to let him know that. No, he would just raise a brow and stare down at the extended hand that he was expected to shake before making eye contact once again. His mouth opened to respond, but Jolene's voice cut him off. It was probably the only time he looked away from the healer, to glance at his sister as she struggled to speak. He ignored her words of warning, looking back to Santiago, pausing before he finally decided to speak again.

"I asked who you were, not what you do, because I think I'm smart enough to figure that much out. Your position here doesn't make a God damn difference to me, because you could run this bloody hospital, and be the best at what you do, but that's not going to earn you any respect on my end unless you make her better." Now he looked back to Jolene, moving around Santiago to go to her bed side, his eyes narrowing slightly. "And as for you, you're dumber than I thought if you really expected me not to show up. Come on, Jolene, you know me better than that."

"Is that how you speak to all the new people you meet?" Santiago said before he could think twice; but, really.

He did not know this man, this man did not know him, and it was completely uncalled for to take that tone, to curse at him. No, Santiago had been a healer for far too long to simply simper and agree to the loud mouth relatives that came barging into his patients' rooms. It did not matter that Caden was much bigger than him, and could probably pop his head off with one swift swipe of his gigantic hands, but.

Santiago was the one in charge, and here, in this hospital, he was in his element.

His eyebrows rose at Caden before summoning Jolene's charts and a face mask over, turning back to the woman and now setting on completely ignoring her brother (but not before he dropped the mask in front of Caden, on a small table at the end of the bed). Calling her dumb was no way to speak to anyone (even if he did call his own sisters estupidas daily, pero--), and Santiago smiled nicely across the bed.

"Your fever seems to be plateauing, Miss. Flint, which is an indicator that it should begin to drop soon." He leaned forward over the end of the bed, as if telling Jolene a secret, "You can tell that to your brother, when he stops being rude."

He winked at her, a sly grin on his face, and then shut his charts. "I will see you in a few hours, okay?" he said, before turning. Santiago caught Caden's eye, and he gave the man a wink before exiting the room.
