Completed thread.
Characters: Darren Quigg and Devon Kirke
Setting: Devon's flat, Sunday January 20th, afternoon
Summary: Darren gets PWNed.
Rating/Status: PG-13/R (for language & vase throwing) / Finished!

"Huh," Darren muttered in confusion as he stared at the unopened door before him. He knew Devon was there, he could hear her moving around inside, but after three rounds of knocks and nearly ten minutes of him waiting she still hadn't opened the door. Raising his fist once more, Darren gave the wood four heavy beats. "Devon," he called out. "Devon, come on. I don't care what the place looks like."

She had to be cleaning. It was the only feasible explanation for all the fussing around he could hear. The witch had one heck of a set of lungs. If she was in trouble beyond the door, he'd know. Plus, Devon had a tendency to clean her arse off. As far as he knew, her flat simply wasn't ever dirty or unkempt. So, if she was cleaning with this much gusto, there was a good chance she was upset about something and since she wasn't answering the door, it probably was do to him. Great. What had done to piss her off now?

Darren sighed and beat twice on the door with both fists before dropping his forehead to join them on the cool wood. "Devon. Get the door."

"No, Devon, they didn't have me," he retorted angrily.

He was aggravated that she would think that of him, that the other women - his clients - had actually made some sort of impression on him and further that she refused to understand how this had to work for him. His job and lifestyle were not traditional in any sense of the word. He couldn't afford to let the meaningless snogs bother him because that's precisely what they had to be: meaningless. Otherwise he would have been broken by the job years ago. Therefore, nights spent with Lydia were easily shrugged off. The mornings with Devon were the only ones that mattered in his eyes.

"No one has ever had me," his tone was firm and testy. "Ever." Darren closed his eyes and sighed as his palms wiped down the wall, coming to halt aside Devon's hips. He swallowed once and opened his gaze back on her face, now close enough that his nose barely grazed hers. "You really have no idea what you do to me," he finished quietly.

Now it was her turn to shut her eyes, able to take in his scent as he leaned so close to her. Her hands balled into tighter fists as she tried to ignore the stinging behind her eyes, hating that even though she wanted to hit him, and even after everything, she couldn't help but want to just forgive him and take him back. But he had cheated on her, and he was doing drugs and she couldn't be stupid anymore. She leaned forward and pressed her forehead against his own, her hands relaxing at her sides as she opened her eyes and looked into his own, her eyes getting a little watery as she lifted her hands to place them on either side of his face, her fingers shaking a little bit. But she couldn't cry. She didn't want him to see her cry, because...fucking hell, she was hurting more than he knew. "I obviously don't do enough."

She pushed his arm to the side and tried to move past him, not able to keep standing there with him giving her that look, saying what he was saying, making her want to forgive him. "Just go, Darren..." She tried not to make it sound like she was pleading that he would go away and give her some space. How could he be that stupid? How could he not think this would matter?

It wasn't until he saw the tears forming in her eyes that Darren realized where Devon's words were headed. This wasn't just a fight, it was the fight, the one that would end everything for them. He was going to lose Devon and he'd been too fucking dumb to even realize it was happening. A break was certainly not what he'd expected and now that the moment was here, he wasn't ready to just let go, like she wanted.

When Devon pressed her forehead to his, Darren's body shifted forward to press to her and one hand found a grip on her curvy hip. Staring down into her tearing brown eyes, he had to harshly swallow the words that would have begged her forgiveness. Even if he was willing to lower his pride for the grandiose heartfelt apology and she took him back, he knew he'd only end up hurting her more.

Darren's shoved arm immediately came back to her opposite hip and he pressed them both firmly back to the wall. He swallowed her protest with a hard kiss that held onto longer than he'd intended before it softened and broke. "I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused you," he whispered across her cheek. Darren then had to force himself pull himself away and leave her there in the bedroom. As much as he didn't want to, he knew it was what had to be done.

She couldn't help but gasp as he pressed her back against the wall, those long lashes pressing together tightly as he kissed her, trying her best not to return it. She just stood there, her hands once again balling up at her sides, not throwing them around his neck like she normally did when he kissed her. It was almost instinct to do that even now, but then she thought about Lydia, and that made it easier to resist him. But this wad Darren, so that was never really easy. Expecually for Devon, who had been infatuated with him ever since thier first meeting.

When he pulled away, she blinked her eyes open, feeling moisture stuck to her eyelashes as she stared at the wall on the opposite side of the room. The feeling of his warm breath on her cheek gave her goosebumps, and before she could say anything else, he was gone. Which was what she wanted, right? Her bottom lip quivered before she bit it, leaning her head against the wall as she slid down, her knees bending up to press against her chest before she rested her forehead between them, her hands slipping through her hair to grip at those silky red locks. Suddenly she felt numb, and she hadn't even noticed that a tear had finally started to slide down her cheek when she heard the front door close behind him.
