Hogsmeade Valentine's Spectacular! Friday, the 14th
Now, Holly was definitely not someone who enjoyed the frills and lace of Valentine's Day. Usually, she hated it, it was in the top five list of things she hated, but this year? She felt like celebrating. It had been a damn good year, and Holly was taking every opportunity to showcase the good bloody mood she'd been in. Sure, there had been its blips (McCormack owed her quite some bit), and each moment made her appreciate each and every day.

But that was the sort of sappy stuff she and her husband didn't say, so that was why she had insisted that their visit to Hogsmeade tonight was to crack jokes and judge the couples that took this holiday way too seriously.

It was turning out to not be as horrendous as one may have thought. Hogsmeade was a village on display, each store front lit up with lights, the street lamps giving off sprays of glitter and confetti as couples walked past. The different food places had set up heating spells around outside tables and counters, the aroma completely filling her every sense. The lake had turned into a beautiful ice rink, while a magical ferris wheel lit up the sky. The village had always amazed her, knowing that it was the only place in the country wizards and witches could be completely at ease with their magic outside of Hogwarts.

"Good thing they didn't let the kiddies out," Holly said, eyes catching sight of the castle in the distance. "They'd ruin the romance."

- Hogsmeade is open to all! The village streets are sort of like a Valentine's fair, hosted by Madam Puddifoot's (so you know there's some cheesy stuff).
- For some ADDED FUN, a little trickster has laced the chocolate supply with a truth serum. The amount of chocolate your character ingests, the more truthful/the longer they are under its spell. Soo...that could lead to some fun, y/y? >:D
- ALSO, for players on non British Isles teams, this is the last weekend to be home because practice for the WC starts after Valentine's Day! So get those feels out because you're shipping out!

The year hadn’t started off the way Donovan had expected it to, seeing how his wife decided to drop the bombshell that she was carrying their second child on Christmas Day, and then proceeded to treat him as though he had infected her with some terrible ailment. He had endured weeks of the silent treatment at home, his blonde counterpart angry with him for the child that was growing inside her belly. The idea of her being upset with him over something that was supposed to be a blessing, especially after everything they had been through, was most upsetting, and for a while he found himself growing angry with her. She was normally so rational; she was being petty, as far as he was concerned, and it didn’t take very long for him to stop making attempts to communicate. They co-existed under the same roof, and they were civil enough towards each other for their son’s sake. He tried blaming it all on the hormones, though he was wise enough to not tell her as much.

Thankfully this didn’t last for very long, the space between them as they slept getting smaller and smaller until she was finally looking to curl up against him for comfort and warmth, just as she always had. He welcomed her with open arms, and they seemed to have come to a nonverbal agreement to not talk about their feud. He knew she hadn’t had the best pregnancy with Cole, and that she had been miserable the entire time, but after 9 months of misery, they had a beautiful son to show for it.

Donovan wanted to make sure that Valentine’s Day was special, after everything. He had found a sitter for their aforementioned bundle of joy, and had taken her out to dinner before they went to Hogsmeade. When they got home their room would be filled with champagne colored roses, but for the time being he walked by her side as they took in the sights, only parting with her when she broke away to use the ladies room. While she was gone, he paid for a few quality chocolates, spotting her in the crowd before she found him. He approached her from behind, his hand touching her waist to get her attention, waiting for her to turn around.

“I got you something,” he said, offering the chocolate that was in his other hand. “I risked being bathed in glitter for it.” He said with a smirk, only partially joking. “I do hope it was worth it.”

Danielle would be hard-pressed to admit that she was being irrational during her first few months of pregnancy. Now that her mind was clear of the constantly fluctuating hormones that she simply could not control, she could see how terribly she'd been behaving, but was far too stubborn to admit it to her husband. Donovan had been far more civil and understanding than she would have been if the roles had been reversed. Danielle knew she had her short-comings, and she was still kicking herself for taking them out on her husband for so long. Merlin, wife of the year, right? Mother of the year! Oh, how guilty she felt.

And now, here he was, getting her chocolates. Danielle smiled graciously and pushed up on her toes to kiss Donovan solidly as she wiped some glitter out of his hair. Her over affectionate state might seem out of character, but she really, really felt the need to show her husband that there was no bit of resentment in her any longer.

Of course, this new baby was throwing any and all plans off course, but they would figure their way out of it. They always did, it seemed. Maybe the new course they were taking would lead to an even better place. Maybe her plans wouldn't change so much at all, that they'd all still be able to do their travelings, her research, build a great big future for all of them.

"You have answered this little one's chocolate prayers tonight," Danielle said, examining the box. She slid it out of its case and happily fed one to Donovan before taking her own. The day had been full of wonderful surprises, and the chocolate served on the streets of Hogsmeade had been an added treat. It reminded her of their time at Hogwarts and what beautiful memories they were!

"She has had me crazed for dark chocolate, lately," Danielle said, and it only took her quick mind to realize that she'd used a pronoun that defined the sex of their baby. A pronoun that she had found out early on in the pregnancy, but had stubbornly kept from her husband because of her annoyance with the situation and then foolishly kept a secret because she was too embarrassed to admit her mistake. Danielle nearly choked on the chocolate she was chewing, wheezing and hoping Donovan didn't catch her slip.

Though, she was sure he had, knowing how karma seemed to work for her.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” he said as he lifted one of his hands to help in her plight to get rid of the glitter. He would likely be finding little specks of it here and there for a few days, even after showering. Seeing how he had survived being showered in the annoying art supply to obtain the chocolate, he happily accepted being fed a piece, giving up on trying to clean himself up for the time being. He could live with being mildly reflective for a short while. It certainly wouldn’t be the worst thing he had lived through.

The substance he was covered in was put to the back of his mind when he finally realized what it was she had said. He chewed slowly as he looked down at her, brows furrowing slightly before he swallowed the chocolate and cleared his throat, looking at the ground as he shifted his weight.

“She?" He repeated, just to be clear that yes, he had caught her slip. He looked up to meet her gaze. "Please tell me that you’re just assuming it’s a girl.” It was easy to see that he was trying not to jump to any conclusions and lose his temper, seeing how his jaw clenched and he was doing that thing where he was being eerily calm. “Because if you’re just going on intuition that means you haven’t already found out. And if you haven’t already found out that means you haven’t been keeping anything from me.” Sometimes he wondered if she forgot he was a solicitor who made a living off getting people to spew out information.

Danielle most certainly did not want to lie to her husband, but she just as certainly did not want to start a fight and find herself in the hot seat. It had honestly been a slip of the mind, she was unsure why she'd even referred to the baby as 'she' because she had not thought of the growing child inside her as a girl in all of their conversation. Danielle was physically settled with having another child, but mentally she still had her moments of struggle, so---so---

Every time she tried to open her mouth, she felt the truth ready to come bursting. She couldn't even think of a lie, and not that she wanted to lie, but the fact remained that she couldn't get herself to form her own case. Donovan was a solicitor, but they were both brilliant people who could hold a debate. She should be able to explain herself, she may not have been the most mature of people in the situation right now, but she was quite smart.

"I forgot!" she blurted after a very visible struggle, tears immediately striking her eyes. Well, there went all that brilliant business. Danielle put her hands to her face as she began to cry, her emotions and internal fight with herself getting the best of her. "The first test sparked pink but I was so mad at you but I was more mad at myself for this unplanned pregnancy that I didn't want to think about it and I should have told you but I forgot!"

Danielle heaved a big breath, wiping at her eyes as she tried to calm herself down. That was the least eloquent response she could have given her husband, and her eyes welled again. She did not feel ready for this second baby at all. "I don't know if I'm ready and I'm terrified, please don't be mad at me---I am so stubborn--why am I still talking?"

She tried to shut her mouth into a thin line, but her lip shook with her tears.

Damn it, he hated seeing her cry. He hadn’t meant to upset her to the point of tears, so when she started full on crying in the middle of the street, trying to explain to him how she had managed to forget to inform him their second child would be a girl. Letting out a breath, Donovan lifted a hand to rub at his brow, catching a very judgmental stare from a nearby witch. This probably looked quite terrible to people who were passing by, and while he didn’t really give a damn what people thought, this was probably not the place to be having this argument.

“Come with me,” he said quietly, taking her hand and leading her to a bench that was in a more secluded area. He sat her down and took a seat beside her, still holding onto her hand. “I’m sorry, love. I shouldn’t have confronted you like that,” he said with a frown, admitting he was wrong before he dragged the pad of his thumb along her cheek as another tear fell, wiping it away. “I’ve just been so bloody frustrated with you lately…” The second admission took him by surprise, not having planned on being so blunt. “Is that what all this has been about? You not knowing if you’re ready?” He questioned, trying his best to understand, seeing how they’ve never spoken about it before.

“I didn’t plan for this either, Dani. I thought it’d be at least a few more years until we even spoke about having more children. You can’t just be mad because things didn’t turn out the way we expected them to. Hell, nothing has turned out the way we expected, but this baby is not the worst thing to have ever happened to us. I just don’t understand what has you so terrified, considering all we’ve been through.”

She couldn't explain herself without feeling tremendously selfish and guilty. Danielle kept her gaze down at her lap, wondering how on earth she could really explain the crazy mixture of feelings she had inside of her. She was so used to being logical and precise, and being pregnant completely ruined her thought process. What if Donovan hated her after explaining herself? He was right, they'd gone through so much, so why did she have all these worries and doubts?

"I love Cole, I love him so much, I---I can't describe the love I have for him, and for you, but I feel like---I feel like I fail him as a mother," she said softly, unable to life her eyes. Danielle was sure she'd never told anyone that, not Rian, not Rose, and most definitely not Donovan. "I know I choose work over being home some nights because I love what I do, and I think---how can I be a good mother and be so selfish at the same time? You're not supposed to put anything over your child and---that's selfish, isn't it?"

She'd always been a bit selfish. Danielle couldn't deny that, and she'd gotten into stubborn fights about it with numerous people though most had more tact than her to actually call her the word.

"And now I think---with a new baby, when will we be able to travel next? When will...I can't possibly do the research I am now, it was already cut down because of Cole, oh!" Danielle shook her head, covering her face with her hands. "I don't know how I can think these things, but it makes me sad to think--I won't be able to do what I wish to do, Donovan! What is wrong with me?"
