*Finishing it up in comments
Birthdays were very, very good days. Ludo was leaning casually against a set of stands on the pitch, waiting for Kalista to show up. He didn't expect anything major to happen--and he certainly wasn't going to push her to do something she didn't feel comfortable doing. He just wanted to talk things over, figure out what was holding her back and where they stood...and if they ended up snogging instead, he'd probably be okay with that. After all, it was all up to him what they did. He smirked a little to himself, looking over at the broomstick leaning against the wall beside him and the blanket lying just beside it, curious which she'd rather go with.
She had to be out of her mind. Damn it, this whole thing with Bagman should have ended right after it had started. Actually, it never should have started at all, but it did and now she was stuck in it. It wasn’t even supposed to be anything at all! It was supposed to be casual snogging, and then she would go her own way and he would go his, and they wouldn’t spend any time ‘talking’ or being intimate or anything like that. Damn it. DAMN IT. And now it was his birthday, and she had to at least be a
little bit nice to him. Well, she didn’t have to be, but some part of her felt obligated. So, she was going to meet him at 7.
Walking across the Quidditch pitch, she crossed her arms over her chest as a warm breeze blew through her hair, across her skin. Her hand rose to push back her blonde strands, spotting Ludo standing just a few feet away, waiting for her. Sighing, she approached him and looked at what he had brought, raising a brow before she turned back to him. “So what did you have in mind?”
Way to get right to the point.
Ludo laughed. "Well, hello to you, too." She looked really nice. "Well...I didn't know how you feel about flying," he said slowly, "So I brought a back up plan in case you're completely against it." See? Ludo Bagman was a very thoughtful man when he wasn't trying to show up other blokes and prove that he was tough or whatever it was that blokes did around each other. He studied her face carefully, trying to get a read on her opinion before she had to explicitly spell it out for him.
“I don’t fly.” She said this suddenly as she stared down at the broom, placing her thumbs into the pockets of her jeans. Her eyes stayed on it before she looked up at Ludo. “I’ve never been good at it, and I hate heights. Evan was the Quidditch player of the family, not me.” She began to twist her torso a bit, just standing there, chewing at the inside of her cheek. “So what’s option number 2?” So maybe she wasn’t acting much nicer than she normally would even though it was his birthday, but she had to keep remembering that it
was his birthday. So. It would take a little while for her to warm up.
He stepped a little closer to her, a bit sad that the flying was out of the question. "It's probably not as good as the first plan, but...I'm not going to make you fly if you're not comfortable with it." He crouched down to grab the blanket before gently tugging one of her hands from her pockets and nudging her a bit to follow him. He stopped somewhere near the horizontal center of the pitch, but still out of view from the entrance. She'd probably like it better that way. Quickly unfurling the blanket he gave her what could best be described as a sheepish smile. "I figure that the sun's basically gone, and the stars are always brill out here. We can just...talk or not talk or you know, whatever you feel more comfortable with." Maybe she didn't want to do this at all. Unfortunately, he had no option three. And it was his birthday, so she needed to agree.
Kal quirked her brow once again as she looked down at the blanket, but didn’t tug her hand away as he took it in his own to lead her somewhere. She followed behind him, her sneakers moving over the grass beneath her as she looked around. If anyone were to catch them holding hands, she could just say that he had grabbed a hold of her and was practically
dragging her across the Quidditch field…even though no one would believe that she would ever
let him do something like that. Anyone who tried something that stupid with a Rosier would surely be hexed before they took their second step.
Once they stopped, Kalista watched him lay out the blanket, her hands going back to her pockets as she tilted her head, listening to him speak. She couldn’t help the smirk that eventually crept across her features, shaking her head as she tucked some hair behind her ear. “You are such a girl, Bagman.” With that, she rolled her eyes, sighed, and took a few steps foreward before she carefully lowered herself down on the blanket, crossing her ankles as her legs extended, sitting upright as she leaned back on her hands. Her eyes traveled up to him, brows raised. “Well?” She gestured down to the spot beside her, waiting for him to sit down as she tilted her head back to look at the sky. “What do you want to
talk about?”
Ludo let out a huff...mostly for show. "Well,
one of us has to act like a girl," he said teasingly as he sat next to her, not bothering to put a large amount of distance between them. "Hmmm, you know...I didn't even think you'd agree to this," he said, scratching the back of his head before reclining all the way back, head now on the ground. "I know you have some sort of--front that you have to keep but I'm still trying to figure out why things like house are so important to you. It's not that important past where I end up sleeping at night, honestly." He was a strong believer that half the time everyone at the school could fit in in any of the four houses. It all depended on what was more important to them overall when they were so young.
Her eyes narrowed a bit at his comment. “I act like a
girl. I’m just not a
nice girl. There’s a difference.” Watching him take his seat, she shifted a little bit, and once again remained quiet as he spoke. She continued to stare up at at the dimly lit sky before she turned her head to look down at him, staring for a moment before she shook her head. Scooting forward, she too laid down on the blanket, her hair folding beneath her head. “It just is. You wouldn’t get it.” Her hands folded on her stomach, her knees bent. She didn’t look over to him, but continued to stare up, waiting for it to be dark enough to see the stars, and get the full effect of the moon.
Just because Kalista acted like a cold hard bitch all the time, that didn’t mean she didn’t have a soft spot for things like star gazing and stuff like that.
"Right, my mistake." He bit his tongue from saying more on the subject; he knew that somewhere deep down there was a small smidgen of nice in her...he just had to find it. And bring it out. Of course he wouldn't understand the intricacies of houses. He never understood anything, did he? He let out a slow sigh, wanting to wrap his arm around her but not entirely sure how to go about it. He had a few things moving around his mind; beside things with Kalista, he was worried about NEWTs and the Quidditch cup. Add on the fact that there were only 82 short days of school left before he was thrown out into the real world and Ludo was in a right panic. How on earth was he going to find a decent job in that amount of time? He still hadn't heard back from the Ministry on his application and was now wondering if he even would. The silence between them was good for some self reflection. "It'd be our luck for it to be cloudy tonight," he murmured, still gazing up at the sky. So far, so good...but now that he'd said it a surprise spring thunderstorm would probably pick up on them.
Her eyes shifted over to him, her knees moving together, before she looked to the sky as he changed the subject. “Well, for now it seems pretty clear.” Might as well add to the conversation, to avoid going back to that whole house segregation topic. She shifted on the blanket once more, making herself comfortable as she dropped one hand down to the blanket, still keeping the other resting on her stomach. “It’s nice out.” Her head turned to him. “If there are clouds I just hope they’re not rain clouds. Because, that would definitely suck, and I would probably hurt you for dragging me out here to get stuck in the rain…even if it is your birthday.” By now, she had a small smirk on her features as she turned to look up, staring at the moon, which still wasn’t as bright as it could have been since there was still sunlight in the sky. She was quiet for a few moments before she turned back to him. “Happy birthday, by the way.” She tried to make it seem like she was nonchalant about the whole thing, like it was just something she had to say, and not something that she actually meant.
"Getting stuck in the rain could be fun," he mused, giving her a small smile as he thought things over. He watched her carefully as she turned back to the sky, then once more back to him. "Just another day, right?" he replied calmly, letting his hand fall down close to hers...just to test the waters. "When's your birthday? I don't think I've ever asked before," he said slowly, now looking back up at the sky. He bit the inside of his cheek, trying to fight off his worries about the rest of the school year. He wanted to talk to her about work or quidditch or
anything but...quidditch would be a bad topic especially since the next match for him was against Slytherin. He looked back over at her, waiting to catch her eyes.
