OPEN HOSPITAL THREADS
He blinked up at the ceiling of the hospital room, arms lifted over his head as the nurse examined his slowly healing wound. She was making some idle chatter about how good it was looking, and how he'd regained so much color back in his cheeks, and just how strong he was! Thomas rolled his eyes in plain sight of the woman, and he was glad that she'd taken slight offense to it and opted to finish tidying up his bandages and pulling his shirt back down. Thomas' crossed his arms over his chest as soon as the examination was done and rolled to his side, away from the open doorway.

As much as he was physically feeling better, he was still mentally exhausted. His parents had been hovering nonstop, his sister had managed to release a statement about how she was doing, and the long nights alone had let his thoughts wander, and wander, and wander.

A knock on the door startled him before his thoughts could trail off like they had been, and he peered over his shoulder to tell the nurse to leave him be, but was surprised to see that it wasn't the handsy nurse, or his parents. He turned over completely and gingerly pushed himself up on his elbows.

"Hey," he said, surprised.

Saoirse likened herself into believing that it was her incessant inquiring of 'When can I see people?' (because they all knew that her family wasn't showing up anytime soon) was what had finally broke down her Healer's seemingly strict visitor policy. It wasn't fair, really, and made little sense because she was fine to begin with, and didn't exactly understand why Mungo's was keeping her here for so long. They kept alluding to 'lingering effects' and 'mental health,' not to mention physical safety (it appeared that the Ministry had finally taken some interest in her and Thomas), but she felt... fine. Truly, and honestly, fine for what she and Thomas had gone through.

Perhaps it was that everything hadn't set in yet, or even more hopefully, it had and all smacked of finality enough that her mind had found peace. But regardless, Saoirse didn't dwell on it, and simply focused her attention on waiting for that moment when someone other than one of her Healers walked through that door. But it was a patient wait, so she had been forced to occupy her time otherwise.

She had just finished securing herself down into a comfortable position against the small mountain of pillows at the head of her bed when the door opened. All thoughts of taking a nap left her, and Saoirse shot up to meet this new face. She blinked, blankly, for a moment, apparently having been so focused on getting to this moment that she hadn't much thought about how to react after the fact. She pressed her hands into her sheets, and ducked her chin to her chest sheepishly.

ooc: so apparently Thomas and Saoirse are popular people and instead of flooding the comm with a million threads, Emma came up with the idea of a 'group' post of sorts where the two can have various threads with whoever wants to visit.

He had sorely missed Rose and the feeling had not truly encompassed him until he laid eyes on her. Thomas' surprised expression cracked and he ducked his eyes to keep his breaths even. Seeing her safe and okay gave him true confirmation that his captors hadn't followed through on their threats, that she and Kendall were both okay and maybe he and Saoirse going along with them had done some good. The fear they'd instilled in his heart had startled him to his core and he was just managing to begin to shake away the fear.

Thomas looked back up at her and raised a weary hand, "You've got something in your hair," he said, noticing the twists of color throughout her hair. They must have been remnants of her trip and Thomas' shoulders dropped, "I'm sorry you cut your holiday short."

His lips pulled back after the light comment, the words feeling heavier than he'd meant for them to be. Rose had needed her time to recuperate after a rough few months, and all he'd managed to do was add more onto the pile. Thomas let out a shaky breath and pushed himself back against the headboard to take the weight off his elbows, unable to look her in the eye again.

Her hand wandered toward her hair, fingers twisting through it briefly before remembering... that she had completely forgotten how ridiculous she must look. In the past month she had managed to braid and entangle whatever she could into it, flowers, beads, feathers, because she could and it had been fun. Axe had tried his very best to make her feel silly about it, but decorating it had been far too freeing for her to take anything he said about it seriously.

"They're... beads and feathers. Got a bit carried away," she let out, hand moving to press into the side of her head in something of an abashed manner. The small laugh caught at the ends of her mouth stayed there once Thomas spoke of her holiday, and Rose frowned. That wasn't... he didn't need to feel sorry about that. She shook her head.

In the short time that had passed, her feet had carried her closer to him, so she easily sat down on the edge of his bed, facing him. Rose noticed Thomas had gone back to avoiding her gaze, as she thought he would, so she inched a bit closer to him before speaking agin.

"That's not important," she said, pressing her lips together. "Always more time for things like that." And it was true, time was the one thing that they all had an abundance of, thanks to magic, so it wasn't... there was no need for him to be sorry.

Did he feel sorry because he felt guilty? Rose looked at Thomas carefully, hoping to discern a clue from within the lines of his face. She knew how heavily he could shoulder burdens that didn't need to be, and it pained her to think that he felt responsible for... putting her out of her way, or forcing her to do anything that she didn't want to.

"I'm just happy you're back." Her hands uncurled themselves from each other in her lap, and slowly, Rose slipped one toward his own. Her fingers brushed his tentatively, to not startle him, then moved to lace through his gently.

He nodded quickly, maintaining his downward gaze as he gripped Rose's hand tightly. Thomas couldn't--the squibs hadn't done anything worse than what they'd done last time, they hadn't managed to block his magic, but Thomas felt just as shaken. They'd invaded his privacy so deeply, they knew things from his personal life that he'd never had thought could be used against him in such a way. His friendship with Kendall, his feelings for Rose, it---Thomas had never felt such vulnerability and it startled him to the core. If anything had happened to Rose because of him, if anything ever happened to her---

Ungracefully, Thomas pulled Rose toward him to throw his arms around her in as strong of an embrace as he could manage. The fear of losing her engulfed her once again and Thomas let out some heavy breaths to try and maintain his composure. He didn't know what he would do with his life without Rose in it, she'd been there since day one, his first moments in Hogwarts and she was by his side through everything since, it---he didn't know how to truly function without Rose Knightley.

"I thought I'd never see you again," he let out hoarsely, revealing his true fears. Their escape had gone smoothly, but what if their captors had reacted too quickly? What if they'd gone after their loved ones because he and Saoirse managed to make a getaway? When he'd awoken the first thing he'd asked was if they were all right, if Rose was---Thomas shut his eyes, unsure if he could let her go.

As she pressed her chin into Thomas' back, Rose felt her eyes begin to water again, and it was much more difficult to withhold them. She hadn't been sure--- the healers had said he and Saoirse had returned relatively unharmed (save for Thomas' wound), but that didn't mean... she had been concerned that this time around, something worse than loosing magic might happen, or...

She had refused to entertain the idea that Thomas wouldn't return, but that still... it was difficult to... Rose swallowed the heavy lump forming in her throat, and wrapped her arms around Thomas tighter instead of letting this trail of thoughts continue. What mattered, now, was that he had been returned safe, and he was walking, and talking, and breathing, and would overcome this scare just like he had before. But no matter how firmly Rose believed that, she couldn't quite shake these leftover emotions from all the what-if wonders within the past few days. Clutching Thomas fiercely, her hands moved to hold up the sides of his face. She pulled way just enough to look at him fully, sad but determined.

"You and me? Us?" Rose started, wishing her voice sounded less sobish. Her hands moved again, to help ensure that he would actually be looking at her when she spoke. "We would never end like that." She nodded her head, more for Thomas or for herself, she wasn't exactly sure, but that was necessary to establish nonetheless. "Okay?"

Without waiting for him to respond, Rose quickly pulled Thomas back to her, and she continued to ramble over his neck. "That's not how it's supposed to go, we're supposed to grow very old and judge everyone and each other while doing so, so---" She cut herself off, unwilling to speak any further. He would understand, they always understood each other.
