Delilah and Max!
Nora frowned, the wind whipping her scarf loose from around her neck. The weather was dreary and it mimicked her mood perfectly. After nearly five days, her little expedition group was nowhere closer to finding the missing curse-breakers. Nora knew how to track animals, and while Nico, Larkin, and she was now clumping Ethan into the mix weren't animals (well...), she knew how to conduct a search.

She unfolded a picture she'd taken of the trio in Egypt and stared down at it with a frown. The images all waved back, knocking each other over on the bench after a few moments. Nora wished she could have some sort of idea what had happened, to ease her easily worried mind. She knew in her head that they were all capable of handling themselves, but the circumstances were just so strange and the period of time that had passed without any sort of communication had gone on too long for comfort. From all the misadventures she'd heard about, with great flourish, it was hard to simply sit around and wait.

"Thanks a lot," she said to the young girl behind the stall. Nora had provided the picture and the girl had recognized Ethan. She'd pointed down the alleyway of the street fair and Nora let out a breath; at least she knew they'd been here. Nora walked toward Delilah and Max, who were a bit further down and in the direction the girl had pointed out. She stopped, putting a hand up to block the sun, noticing that even with the wind she felt warm. She better not have caught something.

"They were here," she said, folding the picture up and putting it back in her pocket. Nora was glad that her friends had come along with her, but it was starting to seem like a hopeless cause, and they were all feeling weary, "or at least Ethan was. Maybe someone else saw something."

Delilah wobbled severely when she lost her support as Max dropped to the ground. She counted it as a major success that she remained standing. Looking back to Nora, she found her parakeet was shaking his head at her in great disappointment.

She had been doing so well in not letting her friend find out that she was feeling a bit under the weather. She certainly didn't want Nora to worry, she had enough to worry about with her boyfriend and his crew missing. Delilah frowned at herself as she failed to dodge Nora's hand that rested on her cheek to test for a fever.

"Look at you, done and got yourself caught didn't you," the bird chirped fluttering from Nora's shoulder to her own. Delilah didn't know parakeets could look so disapproving.

"No, I didn't," she protested weakly, willing herself to pull away from Nora's hand. Even though she really didn't want to at all. It felt great resting there, almost made her want to close her eyes and take a quick nap. She shook the thought from her head and brushed the stupid bird away from her shoulder. "I am fine. I just--- I didn't sleep well last night. So I'm a bit tired."

"Liar," the parakeet chimed in now taking perch atop Max's head.

"Hush it." Delilah bit out giving the bird a fierce glare before returning her attention back to Nora. "Let's just keep looking. We're too close to give up now."

Max let out a pained noise, and instead of returning to a normal standing height, he stuck out his hands and leaned back on his palms. The ground felt cool on his hands, at least? Yes, they did, because the sun was blistering and at least they provided something nice.

"I do feel hot," he responded vacantly, a bit delayed to Nora's question. Though, whether he was hot, or it was hot out here was a bit of a mystery. It could be hot in the winter, couldn't it? Max swallowed, his dry throat scratching as he did so. What he wouldn't give for some pumpkin juice. Ice cream! Mmm ice cream. Or even a juicy fruit.

As Max dreamed about fruit, he felt himself begin to nod off away from reality. Or, at least, consciousness. Pressing his face into his shoulder, a misplaced smile formed on his lips, and he swayed heavily to one side of his body.

"Nora," Max let out randomly, his tone very much within a whiney caliber. He had just wanted to be apart of the adventure, but it was becoming so difficult when his head was off in another reality and it felt like his body was falling apart. "Delly." His eyes closed again, and Max's head fell inbetween his knees.

Delilah was talking to no one, or perhaps it was to the invisible parakeet on her shoulder, and Max was on the floor whining like a first year who missed his mum. Nora's eye was literally twitching, and from the stress she'd been under the past few weeks, it was remarkable that her head just didn't pop off. While she too was feeling under the weather, she was nowhere near in a state like Delilah or Max, and that certainly meant that she was going to continue leading this motley crew.

She pressed her fingertips to her temples to try and stop the headache that was already in full force. Nora needed to keep a somewhat level head, and if that meant playing the bad guy, she would have to play the bad guy.

"Get him up," she snapped at Delilah, pressing her lips together. Nora ducked down and draped one of Max's arms over her shoulder, looking up at her other weary friend. "I know you're tired, but at least you're standing. Let's get him up and back to the hotel----"

Nora shut her eyes to bite back a wave of nausea that swept through her. She needed to continue being the leader, she needed to put on a strong face, she needed something to make sense, because apparently life had decided to completely overturn itself. She took in a deep breath.

"Maybe we can catch a portkey home," she muttered, adjusting her footing to get ready to lift Max, even if Delilah wasn't capable. They'd be of no use to anyone in this state, and though it pained her, Nora knew that it was what had to be done.

Delilah recoiled as Nora snapped at her. "See, she's completely upset with you." The parakeet chirped, and she frowned deeply. Stupid bird didn't know anything. Huffing greatly leaned over scooping Max's other arm over her shoulder. Why couldn't he just stand up on his own. This was completely unnecessary and counterproductive. As she tried to stand straight again, now with the weight of Max, she suddenly found the world spinning.

Delilah blinked a few times finding herself on the ground. She place her palms flat on ground on either side of her hoping she that would help stop it from moving. It didn't. She heard Nora just sigh as she tried and failed to get up. Didn't she understand just how hard it was to stand when the very ground beneath your feet fought against you.

Her parakeet fluttered down to her knee. "Oh so you are crying now? Really. What kind of dueler are you? Not a very useful one. Nora should have left you at home." Delilah hiccuped at his spiteful words and took an angry swipe at him.

Of course she was crying. Look at what a mess they were in. She couldn't even stand on her own two feet. She was the very definition of unhelpful. This was not how this trip was suppose to go. It couldn't go like this, Nora would never ask for her help ever again. She had to be some kind of helpful. The parakeet just started to laugh at her at this point, but kept a safe distance from Delilah.

"We have to get up Max," she muttered through her tears. She pulled his hand into hers as she got up on her knees. Already halfway there. "Just part of the adventure. The sooner we get up, the sooner the stupid bird stops saying mean things."
