“One!”
Graciela’s smile couldn’t be brighter as she held Edward close, jumping in place as the music blared once more to ring in the new year. The past year had been remarkable, the best of her life, and she had him to thank. He allowed her to look toward the future with the faithful optimism she’d been raised with and Graciela couldn’t be more grateful. Talking about their future, what this next year might hold in store for them, it excited every bone in her body. She had not felt this eager to move forward---ever.
A fellow party guest bounced by with funny glasses and a noise maker that was shooting off confetti and Graciela laughed into Edward’s mouth. She leaned back against the pillar and sighed heavily, wondering if this euphoric feeling could actually be real or if it was all a dream. Edward kissing her again assured her that she was indeed wide, wide awake. The crowd began to surge around them, breaking the kiss but Graciela refused to move. This was their spot. Her arms hung loosely around him as her starry eyes looked him over and she pushed forward once more for a soft, quick kiss.
“What are your dreams for the new year?” she asked, thinking that a dream was much nicer to think about than a resolution. Resolutions were often broken and left those who made them wondering where they’d gone wrong. Dreams could build and grow with each passing moment, and Graciela hoped to help Edward with his.
