The self-defeating attitude really wasn't something that could be helped in Richard's case. He was talented enough at putting himself down when he was sober. Alcohol just made it worse.
Richard smiled weakly after she'd kissed him and made his insides fizz again. He listened intently as she spoke and tried not to lose his mind when she started playing with his shirt. It really was insane to him that this was happening. She was too pretty to be this kind -- because Richard first and foremost considered any affection he received from women to be close to charity. He was rather awful to himself and wished he could make the bad thoughts stop to help him save face, but alcohol was an evil minx and just made him downright cruel to his already shoddy self-image.
She wanted to keep kissing him, though. So, that was good, right?
"I like listening to you talk," Richard admitted before leaning in for a slow snog, pulling several increasingly feverish kisses from her lips.
Feeling a little bolder, now, Richard's hand found Delilah's knee, which he gently squeezed. He smiled as he searched her gaze for an reaction.
"Is that not normal?" he asked quietly before kissing her again. It unnerved him a little that someone could say they didn't like to hear Delilah talk. Honestly.
"You can talk all you want," he added, "and snog all you want. I'm going to enjoy myself either way."
