Elphias!
After begging, and pleading, and sneaking, and just being miserable and on the brink of tears, her father had finally given in and granted Phoebe permission to visit Elphias. Of course, she had to take some potions, wear a mask, and Phoebe seriously had to throw down the big orange suit her dad had demanded she wear and it was---just wrong. No. Seriously? No. She could deal with the mask, because that's what happened with patients, but--

"Ohhh," she let out when she finally entered his room. Goodness gracious, this was horrible! She couldn't help Elphias at all and he looked so sick and so tired and Phoebe wondered if he even wanted to see her. Maybe he just wanted to be by himself, Merlin, she knew she would---well, no. She'd want Elphias to visit her. And, honestly, she would've earlier if her dad wasn't such a nutcase with all of this, but when you were high up on the healer list you could do things that made it near impossible to sneak it, but. They went back to school tomorrow! She couldn't leave without saying goodbye to Elphias, or telling him to get better.

Phoebe slowly made her way to the bed, sitting in a chair by his side. Ohhh, she couldn't cry. She couldn't cry. Stop being stupid! Seriously! He's going to think you're nutters! "Hi."

Expecting the next person through the door to be his nurse for a mid-afternoon vitals check, Elphias barely opened his eyes as he feebly wiggled and lulled himself awake. Once he realized that the witch was much too short, thin, and red-headed to be his nurse though, his eyes widened to get a better focus on the face where he met a familiar pair of browns.

"Phoebe?" he croaked - voice dry from the fever and days of minimal use of his voice. Feeling a little sting in his chest, Elphias's pallid face regained some of color as she neared the bed.

He really didn't get to see many people outside of the healers and a nurse every hour or so, and his family when they could make the time. But even then, everyone who came through the door was suited up to keep from catching whatever he had. All Phoebe had on was the mask. She didn't even have the gloves or shoe-covering-things - oh, this was bad.

A worried look crossed the young wizard's tired face as he struggled to push himself up on his elbows and out of his slouch in the bed. "You shouldn't--you shouldn't be in here without the...everything," he said with a weak sigh, unable to find all the words he wanted.

"Well---" Oh, she could barely hear herself with this thing. Phoebe wouldn't deny she'd heard Elphias' concern, but she really couldn't stand this. Like, really really couldn't deal with him looking so bad and his voice was so weak and all he could do was show concern for her and ohhhh goodness. Goodness. This was too much. "Well---"

Wow, part of Phoebe hoped that Elphias didn't remember any of this, because all she was doing was making a complete arse of herself. She couldn't form any words, and even if she could she had no idea what to say. That she was worried about him? No, duh! Everyone was! About Elphias and Juliet, she couldn't go an hour without someone mentioning it and---and---

"Well---I. I'm here, so. Do you want me to leave?" she asked stupidly, already pushing herself out of the chair.

Oh, no--she couldn't leave! Would he ask her to leave? Oh, she really hoped not, because then her dad really wouldn't let her back in and she'd go off to Hogwarts without saying goodbye and she was the worst girlfriend ever.

Finally having managed into a seated position, Elphias's shoulders collapsed to the raised mattress once more. He watched Phoebe fidget as she spoke. Oh, he missed her so very much. Just having her here was a mood boost. The defensiveness in her question though made his face fall into a pained look. If he wasn't so bloody tired, he probably would have boggled over his reaction, but he didn't have the capacity for that now. Hindsight was bound to kick-in later.

"Of course I don't want you to leave," he replied quietly. "But--it's just--if you were to get sick because of me..." Elphias's voice trailed off. He was certain that he wouldn't be able to handle it if she did get sick. It was Phoebe, after all. Bad things weren't supposed to happen to her. Ever.

She dropped back into the seat immediately, a flush growing on her cheeks because--oh. Of course he didn't want her to leave. Sigh, that meant he wanted her there. Which meant he wanted to see her. Which meant he missed her. Or it could mean he just liked the company, but---no. Oh. He wanted her there.

"I'll be fine," she said with some courage she didn't know she had. Phoebe grinned a bit cheekily, not that...he could...see her grin behind the mask, but. Her eyes definitely showed it, "Last time I got sick I threw up in Smethy's toy box, and that was like---I was just like four or something."

Which...he probably didn't need to be hearing about her vomiting escapades, but sometimes words spewed from her mouth kind of...like vomit (ugh, Phoebe, could you get any grosser?) and she couldn't help herself. In any case, Elphias wanted her there (ugh maybe not anymore, though--) and Phoebe was going to take full advantage of that. She scooted her chair closer to his bedside and took his hand and squeezed it tight, feeling incredibly nervous, but...this is what girlfriends did.

Or so she'd read.

"You need to get better, I mean," her voice tightened a little, and Phoebe's lips twisted, making her nose scrunch and, "Beeeecause you're missing out on some really great stuff at school...like...the...movie club."
