Tristan!
She was going to puke.

Carys paced back and forth in front of the desk of her office. Her office! Her office, given to her as captain! As captain! This was Griff's place, this was Griff's chair, this was---not her place. This was not where she was supposed to be. She was supposed to be riling up her team, bouncing around like a mad woman and screaming at the top of her lungs. She was supposed to be at home with her son and husband, but with the Catapults' expectations of her it was nearly impossible to be relaxed at home and---how was she supposed to lead this team if she couldn't even figure out how to be on it anymore?

The only thing that was giving her any sort of comfort was her jersey. It had just been delivered and she had disappeared into her office to change, and catch her breath. Carys kept the velvet red jersey close to her, holding it to her nose but unable to actually don the blasted thing. If she put this jersey on, which was not only adorned with her new last name (she had to do some great gesture for Drake, after his), but it also had a blazing C, not for Catapults, not for Carys, but for captain.

The door creaked open from behind her and Carys turned to see Tristan's head peeking in. "I can't do this!" she squeaked.

He considered himself quite close to Carys -- they'd been on the team together for a good deal of time, they had in recent years had similar sorts of problems, and -- they'd both been in close running for the position of Captain. In the end, though, Tristan was happier to be someone on the team who could be a little more flexible than a Captain would have to be. He'd never really vied for the position, but he was fast becoming one of the more senior members of the team.

The pressure made him want to puke too, frankly, and that was why he'd showed up in Carys' office -- because he was sure she was feeling the same way.

"What!" He slipped into the room and closed the door behind him, making sure to mutter a small locking charm to keep the door from being opened by anyone nosy.

"What makes you say that? You've got the uniform, that's at least fifty percent of the job.

"I can't I can't I can't!" she let out, feeling like an ickle firstie, terrified of getting on the Hogwarts Express. This was a big first step, this was a big change in her life, Carys---did not handle change very well. Her relationship with Drake was a whirlwind and she knew now that it was meant to be, but her many nights of panic and worry took a while to cease. This captain thing was not something she ever truly wanted, Carys played for the fun of it, she didn't want to impress!

Carys folded and unfolded her jersey, only half in uniform and now she didn't even have fifty percent of the job done! Bloody, bloody hell.

"We're the Catapults! How could they do this to us?" she moaned. There used to be respect and pride in this organization. Loyalty. Now it was all about the numbers and the galleons. "How could they bring Captain Kangaroo in here to scare us stiff?"

Or at least, scare her stiff, but it made Carys feel better to lump Tristan in the same boat.

Okay, so he probably should've thrown up a silencing charm for good measure. Tristan frowned, closing the distance between them so that he could try and pry the jersey out from Carys' hands and smooth it out so that it would be ready for her to wear in a few minutes. He understood her apprehension, and he did agree with some of the things that she'd said...but he couldn't let Carys know that much.

"They wouldn't have made you Captain unless they were sure you could do it, Carys. If they're all about money, they're confident that you are going to be profitable to them! That means they recognize how beautiful and smart you are, and they want you on their side. That's good, right?"
