The reason he was telling her wasn't with the expectation for an immediate response, Adrian hoped she knew that. He began to worry that he had conveyed it wrongly, inappropriately, that she thought he was telling her this as a defining... thing. He didn't want to pressure her, make her think he was controlling her, just as-- because she needed to know, he had to have someone else know. Not as this ending---
Huh? Adrian blinked, his mouth opening slightly as he took in her last words. What baby? Josef? It would be strange for her to refer to their one and a half year old as a baby.... Wait! She! Josef wasn't girl! Now thoroughly perplexed, it took Adrian a few couple of moments to finally understand what Maggie was saying to him. She would... be alright with going back to Braga... because... it would be better for the baby to be near him. The baby--- their baby? Maggie was pregnant! With a child.
A child! What a feeling to have, knowing he had a child. He had--- gotten old enough that a true, proper family was not something that scared him. A child, a family, was something Adrian could say that he wanted, and for the past year had been picturing it all being with Maggie. Of course, that picture had included them being married already---
What excitement that had shown up on his face flattened a little. This made everything even more confusing and tangled, if that was even possible. Was-- would--- she-- Adrian wanted to be excited, but there was a tiny part of him that suddenly felt this news, this life-changing news might ruin what they were rebuilding. He looked to Maggie for any indication how she was feeling, if she was excited and happy, or miserable and--- she just looked nervous. He kind of felt nervous, now that he thought about it. But that was normal, wasn't it?
With that thought, Adrian screwed his mouth up tight in determination. Regardless of the situation, it was still his first child, which he felt like he had been waiting for for a long time, now. That would be enough to propel him through... all this mess that they had created. For now, at least. So, a small smile formed on his face as he looked at her, even if his head felt like it was becoming dizzy from all this thinking.
"Really?" he asked in a small voice. "My--- a girl?" Adrian wanted to say so much more, but he couldn't configure it into tangible sentences. "That's--- that's--- amazing--!"
