Oh. She was talking about--- his trade. If it had been anyone else, Adrian knew he wouldn't have been able to hide his muted displeasure about this recent switch in his career. He liked the Catapults, they had been a good match for him, and for Braga to suddenly trade him because they hadn't won the playoffs was--- not right. United was... a very good team, there was no denying that, but how well would he be able to play when they all hated him? Somehow, Adrian Drystan Fawcett's well-established hatred smoothing over, let along everyone else adjusting peacefully to losing one of their past season's members.
But that was not something he wanted to discuss with Maggie. Related, yes, but not--- that. "About that...." He walked to sit with her on the steps, not feeling it appropriate to be talking at her. With her... that was better. And you couldn't do that on different levels.
"My, uh--- I didn't bring this up before because I hadn't thought it to be a problem, but with getting traded to United I'm not as sure..." Adrian started, and then he shook his head. That didn't make sense. Where to start? It was a long, tangled story...
"I really wanted to come back to the UK," he began again, resting his hands on his knees. "But, my contract with Braga doesn't expire... for ages, so they made an amendment to it. I said I'd sign anything, and at the time it seemed like a good idea but... the one that I had with the Catapults, and now United, they control it. They-- it's--- they can pull me back to Portugal at any time. And I didn't-- we had been doing well during the regular season, so I hadn't thought of anything about it. Then I got a letter in the post about United..." Adrian trailed off, hoping Maggie would understand what he was saying with the little information he had given her. To be honest, even he didn't understand most of what he had signed, just the 'translations' of what it meant he could do.
"I though I should tell you, now that it's changing," he sighed, and reached to scratch the back of his head again. This news was something he had never told anyone before--- not even his mother, certainly not anyone here, either. "You look really beautiful tonight," Adrian blurted, disliking the short silence he himself had created.
