gabriel l. corner ([info]coverstory) wrote in [info]valesco,
For as cool and collected of a person that Gabriel made himself to be, he was quite easily frazzled and upset. The whirlwind of the past few days had been quite stressful and the feelings and emotions he had gone through were wearing him down, but of course he could not let his wife or children see that. Amissa had been understanding, giving him commands of how to help mummy and make sure her hair was done, Michael had whimpered but was calmed by Mary easily, and Benjamin---it had taken some time to get himself to leave the boy once he'd dropped him off at his mother's house, as he'd thrown quite the tantrum, but now things were settled and in order and Gabriel could now finally, peacefully and fully return to his post by Rachel's bedside.

He thanked the nurse and pushed past her into the room, a bouquet of Rachel's favorite flowers in his hands. He smiled at her, thinking that she did look much better than before even though it was still painful to think of the trauma she'd gone through. Gabriel took the seat beside her after putting the flowers in the vase.

"They're from mother," he said lightly as a joke, to see her face twitch. The chair scraped against the floor as he pulled it closer. Gabriel reached out and took Rachel's hand in both of his. "How are you feeling? I know that's a silly question but--I suppose talking about the weather wouldn't make much sense."

There was no point in being depressed and acting miserable in front of her, no matter how hard it was to keep the smile on his face. Gabriel kissed her hand, letting out a breath, "The weather's terrible out, if it matters."
