Who: Samantha Cadwallader & Thomas McCormack
What: Showing her around!
When: Uh...Wednesday evening (or something :D)
Where: Diagon Alley

Samantha was not entirely sure what was going on. Her head was spinning from taking the floo to Diagon Alley and she felt like the little effort she had put into arranging her clothing was completely at a waste. How on Earth did the Brits feel that this was the most convenient form of transportation?! She was a sooted up mess, but she did the best she could to clean off and make herself presentable once more.

After asking around, she finally found her way to Flourish and Blotts, the agreed meeting location. It was certainly interesting, she was so engrossed in observing her surroundings that she found herself in. It all looked vaguely familiar from the very few outings she'd made while at Gringotts in the past few weeks, but she felt so rushed during those times. Samantha was so far immersed in her thoughts and her exploration that she didn't even realize she was near anyone until she ran into the other person. "Oh, God, I'm so sorry!" she said quickly, hand flying to cover her mouth. "Are you alright?"

Thomas watched the collision through the front windows of Flourish and Blotts, shaking his head. Samantha was definitely recognizable, as she looked very much like her sister and had the tell-tale frazzled expression and dust-covered coat of a new Floo Network rider. Thomas had taken residence inside the bookstore, because as a former Ravenclaw, he could not resist looking over the variety of texts and interesting books that they often kept in stock. He'd also arrived a bit early, as Victoria had been quite adamant about not being late.

He wasn't dumb. He wasn't oblivious. Thomas was smart and logical, he could see quite clearly that there were ulterior motives behind Victoria's requests, as she would not have singled out the only age-appropriate, single male teammate of hers to hang out wit her sister if they were not some reason other than getting to know Diagon Alley on her mind. Thomas was very good at not doing things he didn't want to do, but, as Samantha could now tell as he waved at her through the glass with an amused smirk, he had agreed.

It might have to do with the realization that whatever feelings he may have uncovered for one Miss Rose Knightley were going to go unheard as she had been expertly avoiding him for the past few weeks. Thomas was sure part of it had to do with the intense schedule all teams were now partaking in as the playoffs grew closer, but things were awkward, and he did not want to ruin their friendship. And, it wasn't as if he had bothered to mention how he may have felt, so if she was, on her own, creating more distance between themselves than there wasn't much he could do.

Thomas exited the bookstore and smirked, "Diagon's quite busy in the winter," he said, sticking his hands in his cloak pockets, "it's probably not the best of places to tour right now."

After doing what she could to profusely apologize to the disgruntled wizard she ran into (and holder her tongue while he muttered about 'those damn Yanks' as he walked off), she noticed him waving to her through the window. Fantastic. A small blush began to form on her cheeks and she brushed at the soot on her jeans once more as she saw him emerge from the store.

Samantha lightly scratched the back of her head. "Seems very busy," she replied sheepishly. "I work down the street and I still haven't found enough time to explore yet, eh, but maybe soon." She paused for a moment to let out a slow breath before smiling. "Any ideas of places not so busy then?" she asked finally, raising an eyebrow at him.

He avoided Diagon Alley like the plague. One of the good things about having an agent and publicist and all was that if he did not want to do something, he could send them to do it. Of course that excluded things like press sessions and actually playing games, but Thomas always managed to do the things he had to. So what if his agent was really good at getting copies of upcoming books before they even reached the shelves? He should be grateful he had managed to find someone as productive.

"Hogsmeade," Thomas said promptly, putting out his hand to Samantha. If she was new enough to the country to not know her way around Diagon Alley, she most certainly could not apparate to Hogsmeade by herself. Side-along would have to be the only way, and Thomas was rather good at if, if he didn't say so himself.

"Very quiet, and it just snowed---plus you'll be able to see Hogwarts," See, he could be a good tour guide, Victoria would not be able to complain about a thing.

She grabbed his hand and mentally prepared herself for the uncomfortable feeling that came with apparating. "Hogwarts--that's the school, yeah?" she asked, hoping she wasn't mixing things up. She'd picked up bits here and there from Victoria and Scott, as well as at work, but she was obviously not completely caught up to speed.

The squeezing feeling didn't last long enough for her to really feel uncomfortable. She let go of his hand after making sure that she was steady with the landing. She took in her surroundings and a smile spread across her lips. This place looked like a storybook setting. The snow wasn't terribly exciting for her, but it was a comforting reminder of home. "Wow, this is fantastic," she said finally, looking around. "So Hogwarts is nearby, eh?" She looked around, not quite sure where the school would be. Nothing looked like Saskatchewan Central around here.

Thomas had always preferred Hogsmeade over Diagon Alley, except for when it was a weekend at school and the students overran the usually quiet streets. He was not a person for crowds, which made autograph signings and the rush after matches nearly impossible for him to deal with. He often got criticized for rushing to the floo after games without signing a few posters for the fans who had been waiting outside the gates, but Thomas would rather deal with the bad press than get sucked into being smothered.

"Yes, this way," he said, pushing his hands into his pockets, having forgotten gloves. He had been frantically looking for the sunglasses that were charmed to help conceal his identity (within a decent radius) that he'd left a more vital bit of clothing. What good was a chaser if his hands had been frozen and thawed off because of the cold winter weather?

They made their way down the main street, Thomas pointing out stores and using little anecdotes of his time there. Hogwarts had been decent enough to him while he was a student, but he felt like it was a common trait within all of its graduates that once you left its hallowed halls you would give anything to be a student there once more. The castle was its own universe, and once you left it to join the ranks of the real world, nothing seemed to compare.

A final short trek up a snowy hill led them to the best view of the castle, and Thomas looked over to Samantha with a grin, "I don't think they've got castles in Canada, do they?"

Samantha listened politely to the stories about the different stores along the route. It didn't seem so out of the ordinary to her; book shops, clothing stores, apothecaries, and the like. It wasn't until they got to the end of their walk that she let out an audible gasp.

"You did NOT go to school there!" she said loudly before covering her mouth with embarrassment. But truly--students went to school in a castle here? This was just astounding to her. "We have--well, they're nothing like this, eh, but we've got nice, fancy buildings."

She turned to look at him. "What was it like there? I think I would end up lost, it looks so big!"

It felt something like excitement to see her so surprised. Thomas' shoulders straightened and he found himself rather impressed with...himself. He had figured that Hogwarts would be a sight, definitely one that anyone visiting the country should see, but to have Samantha actually in awe by it? Well. That was an added bonus. Hogwarts was home, and he was proud of his school and glad that she appreciated it.

"For seven years," Thomas said with a nod, pulling his hand out of the coziness of his pocket to push up his sunglasses. He stared up the winding path to the castle, trying to recall the last time he had actually been through its doors. Probably for some Slug Club meeting, but Professor Slughorn had been retired for at least two years...

Thomas pushed forward on the gate, letting out a breath when it opened without any problem. He looked back toward Samantha with a shrug, "Do you want to go see what it's like?"

"Is that even a question????" she said, almost reprimanding him for his thinking that she would possibly say no to that. "Of course I want to go see what it's like!" She followed him through the gate, now feeling the thrill of adventure flowing through her.

She was going to have to tell Victoria that he was a brilliant tour guide when she got the chance. She looked over at him as they walked. "So tell me, what was school like here? Were there a lot of people in your classes?"

"Er---depending on the class...I suppose it could go from twenty to forty students?" Thomas had never really thought of the class size during his time at Hogwarts, though now that he was in the real world, he did seem to lump people into House and year, "But it depended on who got Sorted where, like...if there was a small batch of Slytherins in a year, the Ravenclaws wouldn't have a very big Herbology class."

It didn't occur to him that his words might sound like a load of gibberish to Samantha, because he was quite enthused with the idea of walking through Hogwarts again. Thomas did have the sense to know that he may be turned around once they reached the steps to the entrance hall, but he had a feeling that his quidditch celebrity pull might be enough for him to get a tour of the castle.
