NEW YEAR'S EVE POST
It felt good to be the host of the party, and not the one creating a scene and making an entrance. Though Charlie would never admit it, the therapy sessions with Healer Bonaccord had...well, he still wasn't happy with everything going on in his life, but it had given him an outlet other than the bar, and that was allowing him let out the pent up stress he'd been bottling in. It was hard to figure things out by yourself, and for someone whose ego was as fragile as his, Charlie was slowly realizing that he needed a complete stranger to release his anxieties.

Of course, he wouldn't feel like he'd completely found peace until he managed to get her in the sack, but that was just a personal goal of his.

At any rate, Charlie was finding that being the host was interesting. Everyone knew you were going to be there, so there wasn't a great surprise when they saw you, but after those greetings were done they were off to see who else had shown up. It looked like a good outcome, but Charlie felt a bit slighted as it was pretty deep into the night and a certain invitee had not appeared in the crowd. With a breath he pushed the door open to the balcony and stepped out into the cool December night.

He stuck his hands into his pockets, spotting some displays of fireworks over the tops of the surrounding buildings. Charlie grinned at the early celebrations and let his shoulder sag.

"No, Spinnet, I am le—I said appearance, which me—" Smirking when Charlie waved him away in disgust and turned to more stimulating company, he did a quick summon for his cloak and muffler and headed for the doors. For once, Axe hadn't been put upon to go make nice and smile for nosy reporters with flashing cameras and self-dictating quills. In fact, he'd been strongly encouraged to avoid Spinnet's bash, given his Keeper's rapid spiral into social debauchery, etc.

This had been one factor in his presence tonight, because "don't do this" could only be interpreted as "please, repeat this activity to the fullest of your extent" to Axe. Being a foreigner and all, of course. The other had been the incessant badgering his host, his shadow Zoey, her shadow Joey, and Kate, likely in retaliation for any one of several locker-stuffings, had subjected him to. Perhaps a small third reason was the diminishing need to dunk Charlie's head in a boiling cauldron off field, after saddling him with Therese Bonaccord. Reluctantly, Axe thought, he might have to concede her methods had a way of working. Either that, or Spinnet's libido ran a tighter ship than previously thought. Likely a combination of both.

He glared at an acquaintance who tried to forestall his departure and was pushing past the heavy double doors when a shrill voice had him wincing in his attempt to keep from flinching, like he'd heard it.

It was quite difficult not to, though.

Pivoting slightly in his step, he glanced behind him and was only mildly surprised (largely outweighed by relief) to see it was only Therese. "Help you, Healer?" he asked.

Her stride didn't break at his acknowledgement, and Therese stormed straight up to Rupert, not hesitating a millisecond before punching him straight in the arm. As good as her slap was, it didn't have the power that she needed to hurt Rupert like she wanted. Before he could react, she punched his arm again, hoping that it was the one he used to thrash that bat of his around.

"Tu es une bête!" she sneered through her teeth, chest heaving. She slammed her fist into him again, "You are---tu es une----" Her hands flew up as a slew of insults in both English and French soared from her mouth, and she capped it off with open palms to his chest. The last time she had hit a bloke like this it was Caradoc Dearborn in seventh year, and those were feelings and memories she had no desire to relieve.

"The nerve---" Therese flushed, unable to verbally come up with why she was assaulting him, all she could think about was how that player had looked at her, what Spinnet must think of her, what...he must think of her, and now she felt more than stupid for coming here with Gudgeon of all people! She was just adding fuel to the fire! "How could you let Spinnet think that we--!"

It was becoming more embarrassing than fury inducing. Rupert had a ton of ammo against her already, and it was becoming abundantly clear that he was ready and willing to use it.

The first punch caught him off-guard. Still bewildered from the first, there was little he could do about the second. "Diable!" he hissed, when her bony knuckle caught him at the still-soft inside of his elbow. By the third, he was half-resigned to the beating, although he had no idea why the little therapist was flying at him with her fists, when she changed tactics and flew right at his chest. Axe was suddenly thankful he was a Beater and thus used to objects travelling at high speeds slamming into his body, as he rocked back only for a moment upon impact.

It took him a moment to realize she was speaking during all of this, albeit in that same strained, high frequency that had signaled him to wait earlier (which he was regretting heartily now), but he couldn't pay attention to that and her slap-happy fists at the same time.

"I hit back," he warned, but it was mostly drowned out by her stream of non-literal curses.

Prioritizing, he danced away from the last now half-hearted swing and caught her hands firmly in his before even thinking to address exactly why she was making him her punching bag.

"Who think who what?" Axe asked distractedly, focusing on the squirming hands. "Therese, what are you doing?"

"You know what! she hissed, tugging to free herself but it was to no avail. Therese huffed greatly, trying to catch her breath; she wondered how "I have blokes coming up to me asking for a special session because Spinnet's telling them that---" Her face flushed even redder, if that was possible, and it was suddenly very hot, "That you and I..."

Therese stopped struggling, staring daggers into his eyes. For someone in her field of work, it should have been easy to figure out why he would've done something like this. Men were always competing, it probably was just some show of masculinity; let's tear down the pretty woman we both have in common to have something in common. Overcompensating in the areas they lacked. It should be that easy to accept, but she'd found herself enjoying her time spent with Rupert, no matter how random it seemed to be, she'd actually thought they had become something like friends. Now all she could think about was the bloody locker room talk that must go on about her.

"My whole reputation could be ruined," she let out lowly, the ramifications of a few gossiping quidditch players coming to mind. Mon dieu, would her chief believe her over the whispers? All he had to do was look at who she had been spending her time with, it would be very easy for anyone to jump to the bad conclusions. Therese had never done anything with a patient outside of attending some events, but even then she kept her distance and knew how to talk to them in public, it...she was going to be humiliated for something she didn't even do. That seemed to be a recurring theme in her life.

"I took on Spinnet as a favor to you and---how could you let him think that we--!" Merlin, she couldn't even say it, just the thought of what Spinnet believed went on between them making her heat up all over.

"That we what?" he asked, giving the wrists he forgot he was holding an impatient shake. But the innuendo that she stressed in the beginning came back to him and he gave her an offended look. "That we had sex?"

He felt his own feathers begin to ruffle, so he bristled. That was one thing he never did—slandering witches about sex was distasteful and a sign of a weak and threatened male, two things Axebanger was most certainly not. That she lumped him with the trolls harassing her added to this uncomfortably foul mood. It was, he recalled, the second time Therese Bonaccord had caught him in an uncomfortable situation he had no desire to be in. Shockingly enough for the witch he deemed rather conservative, it too involved sex.

"Because we have not," he paused to emphasize, "I told no such thing to Spinnet…" but even as he said it, Axe remembered teasing him about the crush his Keeper had developed and covered with swagger. He didn't even try to conceal his groan, because it was by now a countless number of times Spinnet had gotten him into an uncomfortable situation by not using whatever lay underneath that thick skull of his.

Releasing her hands and pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger, he sighed. "Your newest patient is a bit on the dim side."

Therese's hands went firmly to her hips the moment they could, but her face had grown so red that she was sure she looked more like a child about to fall to the floor in a tantrum than any sort of menacing. How could she even be menacing as he told her that he hadn't said those things, that he looked just as annoyed by Spinnet's loud, stupid mouth as her? Therese had short fuse, but any explosion she had was almost immediately put out with any sign of logic.

Charlie Spinnet was a bit dim, and she had notated in one session that he seemed to take everything quite literally which could definitely be a factor in the crippling state of his fragile ego. With quick breaths from her nose, Therese forced herself to at least physically relax; her mind could not stop spinning as she thought of the trouble she could be in if these rumors circulated outside of that party hall. Rumors would not end her career.

"Incroyable!" she let out, throwing up a hand, "My career is in dire jeopardy because of an idiot's stupid rumors and I don't even have the satisfaction of any of it being true!" Therese tossed her hair over her shoulder in a great display of dissatisfaction, staring down the hall and glaring at the closed doors, hoping that Spinnet could feel the blaze coming from her eyes; maybe he would choke on some bird's tongue. It wasn't until the strange image of Spinnet literally becoming tongue-tied with a girl that her words began to resonate in her head, and Therese felt her cheeks' flush course down her entire body and back up again.

"And---poor you as well," she said, waving a hand dismissively as if she had not just announced that it was a great shame that not one word of the rumors were true.

Having been mentally steeling himself for the inevitable scepticism and continuous accusations and outrage, he blinked at the sudden switch in demeanor—though he still flinched from the sudden movement of her hands, leery of another onslaught of beating. So pleased, if startled, at having shaken the bristles from her broom so efficiently, Axe even studied her for an extra moment to ensure that no trap of convoluted but inescapable feminine rage awaited even one misstep of his, as it had in past with a handful of witches when he hadn't known better. When this, too, seemed to be absence, Axe felt the corners of his mouth tug up in a satisfied smirk. Perhaps Spinnet hadn't entirely fucked it up. He may have intended Spinnet to get a roasting from Therese (and Axe had a good feeling this was coming), but if an opportunity to tease arose from it, who was he to deny?

His smirk was at once beguiling and arrogant, like a caricature. "Ma chérie," he began sweetly, thickly, placing a hand over his heart as he stepped toward her. "If you feel so strongly, do not tell me you would let such a small issue as ethics stand between you and," because it pleased him to do, he stroked a lock of hair that fell along the line of her collar bone while leaning in with every word, "utter satisfaction."

It was instinct to snap back at him and tell him to shut it, but in a much vulgar way (maybe in French, even the curse words sounded oh-so-pretty). Therese had never been able to tolerate much teasing at her expense; it was easy to quiet those that were bothering her or to simply walk/storm away without another word. Every instinct told her to let out a huff of a breath and stalk out the door, but her instinct had been terribly off-kilter lately, and it caused her to hesitate. Her mind worked quickly, people always teased her for being sorted into the wrong House until they heard the venom spat from her tongue.

Therese's lips curled into an equally arrogant smile; no, no, she was tired of being the one put into a flustered state. She was done with making the right and smart decisions, because even then the universe still managed to muck everything up. No, no, she was done playing the professional...at least for the rest of the year. That gave her a good twenty minutes to be foolhardy and reckless.

"Utter satisfaction?" she repeated, her voice dropping. Therese shook her head, her hand reaching up to grab the front of his shirt. He could not tease her over what wasn't true if it actually was true, no? She pulled in to close the little space he had left between them and kissed him hard, her body coming flush against him.

Although he didn't flinch, Axe was certain the next thing coming to him was a slap. Or a headbutt, given how she seized his front. After all, how long had he known Therese Bonaccord? He even figured he deserved as much, for purposefully violating her highly coveted personal space. So when he felt no immediate pain, aside from an initial pinch of the lower lip, he had to take a moment to genuinely consider if the world was ending in some way. Just until he realized, of course, that it was actually her mouth pressed against his.

He didn't want to say he attacked her, as that sounded very bad, but it could not be denied that his reaction after that was instantaneous and driven. Axe had said utter satisfaction, had he not? Anything short of that would simply be false advertising. One hand cupped her jaw, the other slid around her waist, tightening as he walked her back the few steps to the alley wall, until it was all that cushioned her from the brick.

As he fisted his hand in her hair, he pulled back with one last bite to her lip. Tugging his hand gently, he angled her head to expose the slender neck, kissing along her jaw, down to the thrumming pulse of her throat. Nipping at the lobe, he leaned just an inch away and chuckled. "We are a bit early for this, no?"

Being foolhardy and reckless certainly had its surprises. Therese had not been expecting much of a reaction, especially not such an instantaneous one. It was easy to move with him which she found startling, and she somehow managed to hold back a moan but that had taken some tremendous strength. Her thoughts swirled and jumbled, what exactly was this? Therese didn't particularly mind it, but she couldn't understand it. Was it important to understand it? She had barely been able to explain to him what gossip Charlie had been spreading, so there were obviously some underlying sexual feelings that she had not realized until this very moment and---it---

Her impressive attempt at behaving as if she wasn't surprised by his reaction was shattered as his lips moved from hers, allowing her to gasp and reveal how he'd completely taken her breath away. Literally. When was the last time she'd been kissed like that? Galvin certainly didn't---

The thought that she had actually come to this event with a date did not startle her nearly as much as it should have. She actually smirked, shutting her eyes as Rupert moved to her neck. Therese let out a breath, her hands tugging on his dress robes in an urgent matter, "It's midnight somewhere."

Hearing Therese breathless brought a smug smile tugging at the corner of his lips, and he chuckled at her quip. Never mind that he too was a little hard of breath, of course, but Axe was exceptionally pleased with himself. After working one particularly entrancing spot beneath her jaw, he admired his handiwork and looked at her, still grinning. "What do you say, ma chére?" He paused as he moved to her mouth and whispered "Satisfied?" Pressing his lips to hers before she could answer.

He did not know what he was doing. He did not know what they were doing, but she was willing, which was already more than he thought she'd be. Trusting her to stop when she wanted them to, he pressed himself even closer, deepening the kiss. His stroked down her back lightly until daring to drop even further and squeeze. A corner of Axe's mouth quirked up before he could even comprehend it, which in turn made him smile against her mouth harder still, strongly believing if the action hadn't garnered him a slap, that would. Perhaps he could distract her, though, and busied himself with the task.

He was immediately pinched, a laugh escaping her lips and straight into his mouth. Everything felt far too good to be annoyed by his roaming and teasing hands. Maybe tomorrow she'd feel the regret and complete embarrassment, but right now? Rupert Brookstanton's hands on and all over her were far too hot against her skin to have a worry.

She was definitely pleased, but satisfied? As his hands grew busier, her lips took the initiative and kissed him up and along his jaw, giving his neck a decent bite to return his squeeze. Therese couldn't remember the last time she had so freely been with someone; Galvin was still new and with the intent of going nowhere so there wasn't any need to think outside the box when it came to this sort of thing, and Rémy? He'd always been the one in control of everything, and her melting mind was beginning to wonder what she'd ever missed about him.

Feeling a wave of intensity brought upon the insult to her ex, one of her hands went to the back of his head and she pushed her lips to his ear. Therese's eyes darted down the alleyway; she may be snogging the man who was not her date up against a brick wall, but she had some standards.

"Je peux pas assouvir à une allée," she breathed into Rupert's ear, a wicked smile curling up her lips as she pulled him closer, almost possessively. Tonight, he was hers.

He laughed, bracing himself with one hand against the alley wall. Even though Axe was fairly certain he could convince her otherwise, he was willing to play her game, though he was in no real hurry to move. Trailing his fingers slowly from her jaw, down her neck, to the exposed part of her chest and over the neckline of her robes, lingering in places he particularly enjoyed or elicited pleasing noises from her, he nodded. "Si tu préfères."

They weren't in a particularly well-lit alley, and were far enough from the main road that no passers-by had a good look at them, but Axe lifted his head momentarily to ascertain that they were still alone. Gripping her around the waist tightly, Axe leaned in and nipped at her bottom lip with a wolfish grin. "Accroches-toi à moi."

Therese watched as he checked the alley, and her heart gave an extra thud, a special little kick in her chest. She was not sure what was coming over her tonight because the past few decisions she had made, the last she would for 1982, were going completely out of character for her. But---how could it be out of character if she was enjoying it so much? Rupert made her feel good, he did that a lot even when he wasn't kissing her like he needed her lips to breathe. What could possibly be wrong or out of character with doing something that seemed to have no consequences and could only make her feel invigorated and alive?

She couldn't resist. She kissed him again, slowly, deeply, her hands making sure not to grab hold of him just yet. They flattened against the brick behind her, the surface not as rough as she previously imagined. What if leaving this spot meant that the mystique and desire disappeared? Therese didn't want to lose that, not yet. She needed to hold on to this and for as long as possible. Her back arched against the wall, the friction between her body and Rupert's causing her to groan into his mouth. Therese dropped her head back against the brick and she twisted her tongue in her mouth, her eyes flitting over his face as her mind swirled. Merlin, Rupert was going to tease her so badly after this.

"Let's stay," she said, a quick smile flitting onto her face. Therese felt a flash of shyness overcome her for the first time during this session, and her hands went to the front of his robes to begin to unlatch the clasps, her gaze dropping to his lips before lifting back to his eyes. "Wouldn't want to miss the fireworks."

He better kiss her before she changed her mind.

As he watched her hands flick open the snaps on his front, he thought he almost hadn't heard her correctly. She was saying to stay? That grin might have been more like a shark's. Pulling her hands away from his front, he finished the job briskly, and then cuffed her wrists, pressing them down against her sides while he looked her in the eye, drinking in the half-lidded expression that could only be called coquettish. Axe raised one hand to draw his thumb leisurely along the bottom lip that was so fascinating to him and cupped her chin, tilting her face up towards him. "Oh, I do not think you would have missed them, regardless."

A faint smirk tugged at his lips as the back of his hand smoothed down her neck and he leaned in to briefly kiss the side of her mouth, then away again. He turned his hand so his finger hooked onto her neckline whilst he slowly dragged it down, utter concentration puckering his brow for a second. With his other hand, he slid up her thigh, moving the material of her skirts with it, gliding to the side until he could hitch it around his waist in a flash, pulling her tightly around him.

"But here…" Axe kissed her deeply, aggressively, the trouble-making glint in his eye belying the sweet tone of his voice as the hand that had cupped her breast slid down, further down, until it reached the hem of the skirt that had been slowly yet steadily bunching up, "they might drown out some of the screaming."
