magpies!
Odette had actually been enjoying her relatively eventless holiday season. With Noah home, and Terry and Anna getting older, she had been doing wife/motherly things that there hadn't been the time for, or she simply had no interest in doing before. Who knew that making endless batches of Christmas cookies could be so rewarding? Or cooking lavish familial breakfasts? And don't get her started on gift shopping; she was definitely sure she had gone overboard this year, and therefore their children were well on their way to becoming spoiled.

But, nonetheless, she should have realized that things had been too quiet, and when this Seth drama started to boil, Odette knew it would be a matter of time before it completely blew up. The Magpies did not like having their teammates traded, regardless of who they were, and it notoriously never went over well when it was made obvious that the trading was of the player's own doing. Practice would be fun--- and by fun, she meant not at all, because if it did by some miracle start on time, then passive aggressive anger was bound come out later through the form of a push or a remark, or something, and then it would all be downhill from there.

Of course, she knew deep down it would be hard to make any promises herself. This growing burn in her stomach was not seeming to go away anytime soon, and--- Odette sighed, stopping herself before she entered the locker room. No, that was wrong. As a leader, she should stay unbiased and logical, only using her passive aggressive anger in appropriate manners. Like letting Seth run for a bit longer while the rest of them took a water break. For good measure, she rolled her head to crack her neck before knocking the door open and walk in.

Seth wasn't here yet. Sending a look to her teammates already present, Odette dropped her bag to the ground. "Well."

This was so not what Billie needed. The holidays, which were supposed to be the 'happiest time of the year', were already rough on the Quidditch player who had pretty much nothing left but her team. She didn't have any friends who weren't Magpies, and she managed to fuck up the friendships she did have by making them complicated (whether or not that much was true she wasn't sure, but things definitely seemed complicated lately), and it wasn't like she had any family to spend the holidays with. She had spent the entirety of Christmas at Mungo's, which didn't exactly scream 'festive'.

And now she found out that one of her teammates had screwed over the rest of the team by going and getting himself traded to the Falcons. To say she was in a bad mood was an understatement.

Slamming her locker closed, Billie pivoted around when she heard Odette enter the room, stepping over to one of the benches to drop herself down, lifting up one of her legs to adjust the laces of her shoes. Aquatic eyes turned up to acknowledge their captain when she spoke, she let out a sigh through her nose.

"Well what?"

The question was mumbled, returning her focus to her shoes, wondering if one of her other teammates had something more productive to add.

Seth knew practice would be rough, the announcement was a surprise to everyone except management. Five days and he would be on a new team and then he could finally just move on. It was so pointless that he even had to attend these practices now that the announcement was made but there was nothing he could do about it. He wasn't released from his contract until Friday and the only way he was going to get out of practice was if the Captain said he didn't have to be there. Like hell Seth was going to try and ask Odette to skip out.

He could hear the hushed voices as he approached the locker room and doubled checked his watch. Nope he wasn't late, just looks like everyone else decided to show up early. Go figure. He pulled open the door and walked in like it was any other day. He ignored the sudden silence as he walked across the room to his locker.

He could almost feel them watching him as he tossed his back into the locker and sat on the bench and started pulling out his gear. He certainly wasn't going to say anything first, so he just focused on his putting on his gear, continuing to pretend it was just any other day, until someone decided they wanted to talk to him.

There were very few things that Thomas McCormack allowed himself to care about, and quidditch was number one on that list. It was the only thing in his life that made sense to him 99.99% of the time, and he grew agitated and greatly annoyed when the delicate balance of the game was thrown askew. He sat, straddled on the bench behind Billie, watching Seth enter in silence. Thomas wasn't an idiot, he knew that trades happened and with the deadline there would be probably more moves going on, but this seemed so strange and out of the blue that his very logical mind could not wrap itself around it.

"You're still a Magpie, you know," he snapped, straightening up. He wasn't the captain, he had no desire to be, but he'd been on this team for just as long as Odette. He was a Magpie, and even though he'd been put there against his will, he would always have a fierce loyalty to the team. Maybe Seth didn't feel it because he already had a championship from his time on the United, but Thomas felt his face flare up.

"It's still 1982, you're still a Magpie and you still owe us an explanation." The next week was going to be rough no matter what was said now, so they should at least get out their frustrations now.

Thomas was far from the first person that Seth expected to speak up first. He almost thought for sure it would be Odette or Parkin. But then again, he probably shouldn't have been all that surprised. Thomas usually took some sort of personal offense when it came to the integrity of the Magpie team. Seth sat up and turned on the bench to face the rest of the locker room, confirming that yes, everyone was looking at him.

"You are right. It's the least I can do." Seth said looking over to Thomas. "Falcon management approached me a couple months ago and put an offer on the table. And when I finally decided it might be worth while, it took a while to work out all the details. I would have said something, but it was decided that it was best to keep it quiet until it was official, in case it didn't work out." he shrugged his shoulder slightly as he finished with the simplest explanation he could think of. Although he knew better than to think he was going to get off that easy.

He looked around the room at his soon to be former teammates, making sure to make eye contact with each of them. He certainly wasn't scared of them, nor was he ashamed of his decision. "Anything else? I know you all have questions. Or at the very least a few choice words."

What the fuck was going on here? Odette wasn't surprised that Thomas was the first to speak up, what with his weirdly aggressive nature lingering through what she now assumed to be the rest season, but Seth, being civil? This she did not understand. Her left eye twitched as she held her tongue, knowing it unwise to jump into Seth's brazenness too quickly.

But her emotions got the best of her, per usual. "A couple of months?" she repeated, feeling that smoldering feeling in her stomach intensify. "You knew about this for a couple of---" Odette stopped herself, putting her hand to her forehead. Focus on the important things at hand. She closed her eyes for a moment, and shook her head.

"My choice of words have something to do with how we're supposed to trust you when we play the Tornadoes on Friday," she spoke bluntly, releasing her hand back to her side. Her knees began to ache from standing still for so long, but she ignored them. Sitting down was most certainly not an option now.

Billie sent an automatic glare towards the door when Seth walked in, though she turned her attention from him in order to continue lacing up her shoes. Despite the fact that she had only been on the team since May, the people she worked with had pretty much become like family, seeing how she saw them more than she saw anybody else. While she and Seth had not always gotten along, since he was known for being a prat, she had never truly hated him like she suspected many of her other team mates did. Not until now, when he was just up and leaving without any warning at all.

Her eyes bounced between the other Magpies who were speaking up. She stood up, her hands working on putting up her hair as she listed to the point Odette brought up. She hadn’t even thought about that until now, and she looked back to Seth.

“It’s enough of a challenge trying to maneuver around Sumpter and Boot as it is… We can’t afford to have a beater on our side who couldn’t give less of a shit about whether we win or lose.”

She was not going to be sent out to Mungo’s, or worse, be found dead on the bottom of the Quidditch pitch, just because Seth didn’t feel it was important to play for a team he clearly didn’t want to be a part of anymore.

“So…can we trust you?”

He watched Odette try to grapple with the idea of him know about this for months. If he was completely honest, he had been thinking about it ever since she was named captain, but he didn't act upon it until someone else made the offer. He wondered idly how she would react if he told her that.

Seth couldn't help but roll his eyes at the question. Honestly, they must think he had no integrity at all. "It's like Thomas said, its still 1982 and I'm still a Magpie. Although, if you're that concerned about it, just bench me for the game. Then I can't do anything to sabotage you. Not that I would, but we all know how highly you think of me." He said, a bit of bitterness seeping into his tone. How bloody typical.

He leaned over to tie up his shoes as he continued. "Besides, I've known about this for a while, and my playing hasn't changed at all, so I don't see why you would think that would change after all this time just for one game which won't make a big difference."
