There were no words to explain how Donovan felt when he woke up that morning. He was already technically married to Danielle, and he hadn’t had any doubts about whether or not it was the right thing to do, but this whole thing – being married by a priest in front of friends and family, it made it all the more official. Today was the day he was going to be able to call her his wife in front of everyone, instead of hiding it like some dirty, shameful secret. He felt anxious, when he woke up – buzzing with anticipation of seeing her in a white dress, walking towards him down the aisle.
He knew for a fact that his parents would not be there – that thought still broke his heart, but he knew he was going to have Danielle standing there with him, and all his closest of friends would be there to support them both.
He had already taken to loosening the tie he had been wearing – undoing the knot, just to have it drape along the back of his neck, the top 2 buttons of his shirt undone so that he didn’t feel like he was being suffocated. He wore ties all the time, but the best feeling after a long day in court was coming home and taking off the noose that was around his neck.
That and seeing Danielle, of course, though she was often times helping him remove much more than his tie after particularly stressful nights.
He had been speaking with Rafe for a while when he spotted Danielle across the room. She looked so perfect, and she held his attention through whatever Rafe was saying. She seemed to do that a lot – make him lose track of everything that was going on around him, just so he could keep his eyes on her. Eventually, he excused himself to go find his bride. He gave his father-in-law (Christ, that was going to get some getting used to) an appreciative nod, turning to look back at Danielle once he was sure she had her attention. Along with his shirt being loosened around the neck, he had removed his jacket, and had rolled his sleeves to his elbows – overall, he looked a lot more relaxed and happy than he had in the last…well, year.
He smiled down at her.
“Are you trying to sweet talk me, Mrs.Rookwood?”
Merlin, he loved the sound of that.
