She was such a Catholic, she was feeling guilty about
everything. Ever since Alex had unceremoniously announced his return to England,
Graciela had been trying to build up the nerve to tell him that she was seeing Edward. As she thought more about it, part of her felt like saying
good. He did not tell her about the slutty receptionist he had slept with, so---but of course this was different. Edward was part of her life, and therefore part of Zacharias', and Zacharias was
Alex's son. It was not as if she had Edward over at all hours of the day, no, no. Of course Zacharias had met him, and been within his company, but to the almost four year old (ay, deus--) Edward was just mummy's friend. So---
It was going to be
awful, no matter what, when she and Alex actually had the chance to speak without family or obligations of other kinds getting in the way. She knew he would not react nicely, and to be honest, Graciela was not sure if she would either.
But she felt the most guilt about how sour she had been with Edward. He had been absolutely amazing and understanding and she hadn't been able to show him how much she truly appreciated his support. Graciela smiled graciously at Edward, and instead of taking the plate of treats she put her hands on his shoulders and kissed him fully.
"Thank you," she said after pulling back a little later.
