cael!
What was she doing, what was she doing, what was she doing?

Pinned down in-between the fluffy upholstery of her couch and a warm body, Cecilia Hooke could not help but to wonder what chain of events had lead her into this situation she was in now.

It wasn't like she was complaining by any means, of course. She liked Cael Gray enough, he kissed more than well enough, and certainly she had been enjoying the last few weeks being filled with his company. She just wanted to know how somehow, despite all of her walls and aversion to men in general as of late, that someone had managed to get her into anything resembling a snog... much less many times over.

Many, many, many times over.

Breaking out of a long kiss, she slowly opened her eyes and sent him a sultry smile, all the while reminding herself that this was just for play. Whatever he might have thought this was--which, honestly, worried her more than she cared to admit--, to her this was just a... what? A game? A release of pent-up sexual tension?

Yes, it was something like that. Whatever it was, it was not anything having to do with a legitimate relationship, no matter how much she enjoyed the time spent with him. After all, she absolutely couldn't do that again.

Cecilia wasn’t the only one who was unsure of what this was – one day he had made the daring attempt to kiss her, and when she hadn’t smacked him in the face, he found himself smirking against her lips before he kissed her for a little while longer, even more satisfied by the fact that the gesture had been returned.

He didn’t know too much about any of her past relationships – all he knew was that they didn’t end well, leaving her wary and cautious of any man who came into her life. This was always at the back of his mind, when he was with the beautiful brunette, and he had been glad to oblige her when it came to satisfying her urges for physical contact, seeing how she was only human and it was expected for her to enjoy the sensation of being touched, held, and kissed – he had been perfectly content to just enjoy the time he spent with her.

It had been much simpler, back before feelings got involved. He found that he was making more conscious efforts to put them on the back burner, and just pretend they didn’t exist, seeing how his thoughts on whatever ‘this’ was were completely one sided. He sure as fuck wasn’t going to be the first one to bring up the ‘what are we?’ conversation, because then he’d feel like the chick of the relationship – it would be his luck, to become emotionally involved with the one woman in London who was determined to keep herself completely emotionally detached.

A noise of protest came from her pulling away, chasing after her mouth to press one final kiss to her lips before becoming entranced by the way they curled upwards, causing a chain reaction since he reflected the expression almost perfectly. He adjusted himself above her, carefully moving so that he could play with the ends of her hair. In the process, he caught sight of the face of his watch. He furrowed his brows, double checking the time to make sure he had seen it correctly.

“It can not already be quarter to 12..."

Having been ready to curl up and lay there with him for a little while, she hadn't been expecting for her companion to suddenly speak and become distracted from the situation. Cecilia couldn't help the pout that overtook her smile, a long-practiced maneuver she'd executed on countless men in her time when she was displeased or otherwise hoping to regain their attention. Reaching up with the most pathetic look in her eyes that she could muster, she ran her fingers back through Cael's hair and tilted her head to the side.

"Are you leaving already?"

The words came out of her mouth before she could think about the weight they held, or why she was so concerned with him staying. In fact, she didn't want to think about that, because she wasn't supposed to be so put off by the fact that he was concerned with the time. The realization that she was, and that the tugging in her chest that wanted to tell him to stay a bit longer, was frightening.

No, no... that had been a mistake, she instantly thought, feeling a twinge of panic. What was she saying? She shouldn't say anything like that. Instantly, she dropped her hand and did her best to wipe the pout off her face, forcing herself to turn her head to look out into the living room instead. Anything but up at his face. Eyes moving to the clock on the mantle of the fireplace, Cecilia let her best fake surprised gasp escape her lips and moved to slip out from her position on the couch.

"Oh, god, it is getting late, isn't it? You've probably got to--work tomorrow, right?" she attempted to recover.

To be honest, he had been expecting her to say something along the lines of ‘yes, you should probably be going’, since that was how this always seemed to work. They had both been fine with that, seeing how it worked for both of them – he would spend time with her, and when it got late, he would leave, and they would arrange to see each other another time, to resume where they had left off. There were times when he wanted to stay longer – times like these, when he had been so completely wrapped up in what he had been doing, enjoying the feeling of her warmth, and the feeling of her hands against his chest, or down his back. This had been the first time she had given him any reason to suggest that she wanted him to stay longer.

She noticed it too, and he watched her put on an act, looking over with her to the clock on the mantle, though she was moving out from underneath him before he could look her in the eyes again. He would sit up, one of his eyebrows quirking upward with intrigue, and when she would finally turn back to him, he had to bite back a smirk – literally placing his lower lip between his teeth, dragging it between the upper and lower set of pearly whites as he canted his head at her.

“Don’t gotta be anywhere ‘till late afternoon, actually…”

He leaned forward, lacing his fingers between his legs, leaning his elbows on his thighs. He hesitated a moment and then finally asked her outright the one question he really wanted to know the answer to. There were a million ways to go around the question, but it all came down to one thing:

“Do you want me to go?”

He could have asked ‘you want me to stay?’, but he figured that this way she wouldn’t think that he’d only be staying because she asked him to. Maybe it didn’t make much of a difference, but he found that he liked to be cautious with Cecilia. He never knew what might set her off, and while he didn’t quite understand the past troubles she had with men in the past, he didn’t want to give her any more reason to think that he would hurt her as well, in any way.

Ahhh no no no, this was not how this was supposed to work. This wasn't how this went! Why had she had to open up her mouth and say something stupid to suggest that she wanted----because she didn't, right? She didn't want him to stay, because that meant that he meant more than just a toy, and that this was more than just a game, and it... it most certainly wasn't. Not if she didn't want to make everything worse. Not if she didn't want to make another mistake.

She had tried with men in the past, and what had it gotten her? It got her to where she was now, pathetic and alone and hurt and messing around with random men she met in bars because she couldn't deal with another disappointment. And that was how it had to be, how it had to stay.

But what did she say? The way he posed the question was a trap if she had ever heard one. Regardless of being a random man she had met in a bar or not, she didn't... dislike him, or anything. Could she really tell him she wanted him to leave and potentially hurt his feelings? Could she really live with the repercussions if she didn't? And--and the one thing she hadn't thought about until just then; did he want to stay for some reason?

The silence in the room must have been tense as she worried on her bottom lip in a very uncharacteristically ungraceful manner. Cecilia quite suddenly appeared as more of a normal woman in that moment than the prissy, put-together pureblood she veiled herself to be, and that fact only added to her discomfort. There was little she could do about it, in a situation such as this, and that was worrisome. This bloody man--

"Of course, I---I don't want you to leave," she hesitated, finally, refusing to look at him as she did so. The vase of flowers on the side table was quite suddenly very enthralling. "That would be very rude and all, but---I am not certain--That is, I don't know if such a thing would be... wise." Ah, did it kill her so much to say?

He couldn’t help the way his brow crinkled with confusion as he watched her fumble around with her words, trying to pick and choose which ones were the most appropriate. He followed her gaze over to the vase of flowers, and then looked back to her, watching her despite the fact that she was making it very clear that he was the last thing she wanted to be looking at while she expressed the smallest desire for him to stay.

“Well…it’s quite simple, actually.”

He stood to his feet, and took a few steps closer to her, though he stopped before he was near enough to actually touch her.

“If you’d like for me to stay…I’ll stay. Otherwise, I’ll take the hint and get outta your hair for the night.”

He smirked down at her, hoping to lighten the situation by putting into his own terms. He reached forward to angling her face towards him, wanting her to look at him again.

“If you’re worried about hurting my feelings, don’t be.” His eyes drifted down to her lips, his hand lifting to tuck some of her hair behind her ear, the backs of his knuckles grazing the gentle curve of her jaw on the way back down towards her chin.

“Just tell me what you want.”

Of all the things she had been expecting him to say and do, they were admittedly an enormous departure from the reality of what was actually happening at that point in time.

Confusion clouding her eyes, Cecilia allowed her gaze to be drawn back up to him reluctantly, and she was stunned by the... what were these emotions he was projecting? Understanding, gentleness? Her mind was spinning in that moment, and the sincerity in his words and soft touch were enough to stun her where she stood. Had she wanted to look away again, it was likely that such an effort would have been wasted. Whatever the words were for how Cael was acting, it was certainly nothing that she had been trained to expect out of a man.

She opened her mouth to speak, before realizing that she knew even less what to say now than she had just seconds ago. Even so, staring up at him, Cecilia knew that the answer was painfully simple. What could she do, about this? This was not supposed to happen.

"I, ah--" Mentally cringing and yet entirely pleased with herself at the same time, she took a deep breath before reaching up to lay her hand over his. "You should... stay."
