Caradoc!
She had always thought that daydreaming was for those who couldn't handle their thoughts, but Emmeline had found much of her time spent in her new life staring out the window and into the street, getting lost in various dreams and ideas. She wasn't completely satisfied with this new habit of hers, but it seemed to make the days go by faster, and the further away from her past in England, the better, she liked to think.

Emmeline idly opened and closed the wedding invitation that had arrived last week from Davy Gudgeon as she continued to stare. She still hadn't responded, but she was sure she was going to go. Mostly because it would give her a chance to visit Anneliese, and make sure that Juliet wasn't plotting Nott's death. The few aspects of her past back in England still called to her, giving her some sort of sense of responsibility. Emmeline was sure that's what she missed. As much as she wanted to get away from everything that had tortured her these last five years, here in New York there was no sense of...she didn't feel any urgency. That was supposed to be a good thing, wasn't it? But she'd lived with that tense sensation shaking her very bones for as long as she could remember and it was hard to become accustomed to not having to...well, she supposed...worry.

Her eyes followed a couple walking hand in hand on the sidewalk and a smile slowly crept onto her face, her braided hair falling out of its twist as she let her head rest against the window pane. Her legs stretched across the window seat and she continued to twist the invitation around in her hands, not hearing Caradoc enter the bedroom behind her.

Caradoc leaned up against the wall, his arms crossed as he watched Emmeline from the entryway. He still wasn't quite sure how she managed to spend most of her time in front of that window almost everyday--- granted, he was not one to shy away from doing nothing day in and day out these days, but reading and sleeping (perhaps his body was finally catching up on everything lost over the years?) seemed much more entertaining.

Noticing she was holding the one thing he had been thinking about for the past couple of days, Caradoc continued into the room, resting this time on the side opposite of where she was sitting. "What's that?" he asked innocently, gesturing to the letter in her hands with his chin. Caradoc had seen it earlier in the week when it had arrived, but hadn't said anything about it until now. They received effectively no mail aside from the newspaper, so it didn't take a lot of effort to notice a transcontinental owl loitering in the kitchen.

He had an idea of what it was (after receiving so many over the years, wedding invitations became unrealistically easy to spot)--- and it did not ease him. Whoever it was for Caradoc knew Emmeline would want to go, hence creating this uncomfortable feeling of his at the bottom of his stomach. The thought of her leaving here, for any reason, did not sit well. Merely thinking about it made past anxieties reawaken and creep under his skin.

Emmeline watched him sit, unconsciously smiling (she did a lot of things involuntarily these days, it seemed) at him. That was fortunate though, that her strange new way of life hadn't affected how she felt about Caradoc. It would be a shame if her unsettled mind had taken it out on him; the only thing that had stayed constant was her need to be with him. Emmeline pulled her legs underneath her to give Caradoc more room on the window sill, and she lifted the invitation to wave it back and forth.

"Davy Gudgeon's getting married." Her expression as she said this was one of disbelief, 'I know, right?' silently passed through her, but then she shrugged and handed it over to Caradoc to see for himself. Her friendship with Davy hadn't been the best over the years, but he was one of her oldest friends. She watched Caradoc take the invite and shifted her position once again, pulling up her legs to wrap her arms around her shins and press her chin on top of her knees. "It's in about three weeks."

She would have to book the portkey soon, then. Emmeline wondered if she should let Anneliese know that she was coming, because her friend had been harassing her to come and meet the baby, and see the baby, and see Henry, and see her! But, Emmeline wasn't an idiot; even with Voldemort gone, who knew how much off the deep end that had sent Jugson? Anything that could relate back to the fact that she was in New York with Caradoc could ruin everything, so she'd have to avoid those who had any ties back to the death eaters.

"I don't know who else is going."

Who? Caradoc had had little patience for Emmeline's friends back in England, finding that having to remember all their faces and all their names during his rather hectic schedule to be a bit trivial. Looking down at the invitation, he noticed he did not recognize the girl's name either, leaving even little room for his interest. Which did not help Emmeline in the long run, but she didn't know that yet.

Oh, wait. Gudgeon was that mute Gryffindor Emmeline made him be around when she and her friends did roommate plus boyfriend things. Caradoc closed his eyes for a moment, remembering how unbearable those get-togethers had been. Ugh. Just the thought of it made him twitch.

Caradoc shook his head, finding that was not the time to be thinking Davy Gudgeon. Putting the invitation down, he crossed his arms over his chest again. While she may be completely calm about this, she had to know they would need to discuss this. And by discuss, he meant fixing the post so that someone the likes of Davy Gudgeon's owl couldn't freely pass into their kitchen--- How did he get their address, by the way?

Shaking his head again, Caradoc sought to speak clearly and slowly. No matter how much he wanted to, telling her straight off that she would not be attending would not be the best way to approach this. So, he would amuse her for a little bit. "And what about you?" he asked, his tone indicating a more serious conversation than they had had in a while.

Emmeline kept her eyes on the invitation as she turned over his words in her mind. And what about her? When she and Caradoc had conversations, it was never as simple as what had just come out of his mouth, or what she'd just said. Both of their minds worked too quickly to just say what they meant, and Emmeline's mind was already three steps ahead of him, just like how she knew he'd come into the room with a plan. It was like a game of chess, you had to preemptively play the game and hope that your opponent chose the route you'd lined up for battle.

So what was his plan? If he didn't mind her going to the wedding, which meant going back to England, he wouldn't have bothered asking what she was do. If Caradoc was fine with things, he would let her do what she wanted or needed to do, so his seemingly innocent question was so loaded that Emmeline didn't know where to start.

Had she herself thought about how returning to England would be a bad thing? Yes, of course. She was far from stupid, she knew that there were still death eaters hiding under the guise of high-ranking jobs or rich families that bought off the proper people. She also wondered how far most of those that hadn't been arrested would go to keep Voldemort's mission alive. Those most loyal to the dark wizard had been caught and locked away, what was remaining of the Order was nearly sure. It had been more than half a year since Voldemort had been defeated and four months since the attack on Frank...

Emmeline knew that if she were at the wrong place at the wrong time there could be trouble. But who would know she was in England other than people she trusted? She would only be there a few days, three at the most. She wouldn't even tell anyone she was going, she wouldn't tell anyone when she was leaving, why was she figuring out all of her arguments in her head when she was supposed to be fighting with Caradoc right now? She supposed it made sense to have some sort of ammo stored up.

But did she really want to fight? Did she really think Davy Gudgeon's wedding was worth having a fight that could last for quite a while with the man she'd run off with? It wasn't about the wedding, or Davy, or seeing Anneliese during this time. It was the idea that she may not be able to make the trip back to England if she so desired because of her boyfriend's concern.

Sometimes Emmeline really hated how quickly her mind moved, as she'd gotten herself worked up over a fight she hadn't had. She moved the piece of her mental chess board forward, "I don't know, what do you think?"

See, she wasn't supposed to respond with that. That response made things much more difficult. It showed that she knew he had seen the invitation before, and that he had already been thinking about this conversation. Even more, it meant that she knew that he did not approve of her going, or why else would she ask him so easily of his opinion? He knew she would want to go, she had always enjoyed other's company much more than he did, but that gave him the ability to be more clearheaded concerning issues like this.

So, Caradoc blinked as he looked at her, not waiting a second longer to respond. "You know what I think," he said steadily. He did not move as he spoke, keeping his arms crossed over his chest in his leaning position against the window. She knew it wouldn't be safe, something not smart to do (something a Ravenclaw would never do, he would point out soon enough), so there was no need to be obnoxious about it. Yet, anyway.

He also... didn't feel like making this complicated. Complicated arguments and conversations were for before, when there was a time and effort for them. Now was not one of those times, and to be honest, it felt like they had been on a permanent vacation for so long, his mind and body had shifted into conserve mode. He had never slept so much in his life, never thought less and never wanted to just do nothing more than right now. It was strange, but pleasurable. Caradoc now knew what Emmet had meant when he told him to 'calm the fuck down and chill for ten minutes.'

Emmeline let out a quick breath from her nose, eyes dropping down and out into the street again. Of course she knew what he wanted. She wasn't particularly sure what she wanted. The wedding would be something enjoyable to go to, but it wasn't a pressing matter, either. Davy would have much more on his mind than being upset that she couldn't make the trip, she was sure. Anneliese would continue to beg her to come visit as she hadn't met her daughter yet, and then there was the guilt of leaving Frank and Neville behind...Emmeline watched another couple walk by, looking as carefree as a person could be. She realized then that she wasn't jealous of them, she was just unsure of how to be that way, how to live like a trip to England was a good thing and not some life threatening journey.

She wanted to live like that. She'd moved her to be with Caradoc, not to fight about going home...this was home now, England was where her life had been nearly destroyed, numerous times. It was very hard to accept that, and now that she was facing the first potential fight she and Caradoc could have in this new life of theirs...

"Fine," she let out with a sigh, sitting back against the wall. Emmeline rolled her eyes to the ceiling, a smile playing on her face as she stretched out her legs to rest her feet on his lap. Their lives should have nothing to do with fights that brought back the past, opened up old wounds and made either of them stress about things they were supposed to have escaped from. Their life was new and refreshing, and even though Emmeline was sure she'd make the trip back to England at some point, the wedding was not important enough to her to ruin what they had now. Even if she herself had been ruining it by being so absorbed with everything but Caradoc.

Strange. Emmeline dropped her gaze to him, "Go on, gloat." Her smile widened and she blushed.

He wasn't going to lie, Caradoc was surprised at Emmeline's response. That was it? End of discussion? Well, it seemed his persuasion skills had skyrocketed to near perfection. He had said less than a paragraph's worth to her an, there wasn't even a hint of annoyance or grimace on her face. This had turned out much better than he had hoped. A pat on the back was deserved, if he didn't say so himself.

Thoroughly pleased with himself and her, a smile hooked quickly onto Caradoc's face. "Me, gloat?" he said, rolling his eyes and speaking in such a tone that Emmeline could tell he was joking.

Well, now that all of that was taken care of, there was no reason why they couldn't return to their normal schedule of sleep, sex, and relaxation. Since he had already taken a nap today (seriously don't even get him started on how awesome those were), and all that mental prepping left him feeling anything but relaxed, there was really only one option left.

Caradoc smoothly slid down and close to Emmeline, effectively propping himself on top of her with little hitch. Smiling down at her, he waited until he was able to breathe his next words hotly into her ear. "I would never," Caradoc said in a low tone, a very familiar impish grin now appearing on his face. His focus wandered down to her neck, finding her skin to be especially soft today.
