Valentine's Day Gala!

Being the defending champs gave the members of the Caerphilly Catapults many obligations, like being the MC's of this rather lavish evening...or, rather, the boys had volunteered Carys to do all the talking as they stood and looked cute in their suits. It was a job that she didn't particularly mind, she'd been in the spotlight all her life, but she grew bored of introducing generous donors and the big-wigs of the league. Carys knew about all the politics that went on behind the scenes, so she put on a good face, but was definitely not shy about voicing her opinion on certain matters.

"Oh, absolutely," she said to the head of the refereeing committee, "But when you've got one ref on the offensive side, and the foul's committed on the far end of the defense's area....I'm just saying, we should probably be taking advantage of--oh, what's it called?" Carys winked at the man, and at the reporter listening in, "--magic?"

She laughed when he huffed and excused himself, and the reporter shook her hand for the great sound bit. Carys gave a little twirl (her dress had too many ruffles not to twirl), and leaned over the counter to order another drink. The sound of something like an amused snort made her turn her head, and she raised her eyebrows,

"Something funny?"

"Well yeah, but I meant literally. Some of the reporters here seem like they need a little eye-damage to make sure they don't go peeping under the stalls of the women's washroom or something." She laughed -- at least she knew that Vinny was probably even bigger news here that she was. Sure, she was the 'Canadian import' with the big family that apparently she talked about a lot, but he was the one making the big comeback.

As for knowing about his flocks of fans, well. They'd both had fans back in Moose Jaw -- Vinny's accent had been exotic and not something that most of the women out there had ever heard before. He'd been a real treat for everyone, Victoria included. And now she was here on his arm, trying to make sure she looked -- classy.

When Vinny suggested that they dance, however, she beamed. "I'm guessing you guys don't do much two-stepping. I hope I don't make a fool out of myself." She let him lead her to the dance floor, though, making sure they caught the full whiteness of her smile.

"I'm sure they'd get a kick out of it, for sure," Vinny laughed, taking one of Victoria's hands and planting his other on her waist. Vinny pulled her dramatically toward him and grinned, his nose centimeters from hers. He was glad they'd decided to go public with their relationship, and he was glad that people seemed to be responding to it so well. Not that it was a publicity stunt, of course, but Vinny was glad to be in the spotlight for a good, uplifting story.

All he'd been known for in the British media these last three years was being the poor bloke who's fiancee was killed for no reason. The media didn't know about Marlie's involvement with the Order, hell, Vinny barely did until they'd asked for his help nearly a year later. He'd been so overcome with grief that he never thought he could be happy again, so as he spun Victoria around, honestly feeling like he'd never stop smiling---it was a good, good feeling.

"They like us, I think!" he let out over the music, pulling her back to him.

Vinny wasn't the only one glad that he was in a great mood. Victoria had been there through a lot of what Vinny had dealt with as far as his fiancee. Sure, she hadn't asked about it (none of the team had), but she'd seen the toll it had taken on him. Seeing him happy right now at least gave her the hope to think he'd be over things sometime.

And it was good to have positive publicity, right? Coming across the sea to join a major Quidditch league had been terrifying enough in its own right without Victoria having to worry about people butting in on her personal business. She laughed, letting herself be twirled and moving gracefully as she could manage to.

"They like you," she argued with a grin, leaning in to kiss him soundly, "I'm just arm candy. You're the news." Being in the direct spotlight was hard for Victoria, honestly.

He let out a laugh as he shook his head, though he had to sort of agree. Vinny knew that reinstating himself within the league was going to be a big deal, and while he dreaded that first intimate interview, he was going to enjoy the excitement he seemed to be bringing upon the fans and his family.

And himself! Vinny hadn't let himself date, or have fun with his friends in literally years, so being out like this and---twirling around Victoria, saying hi to people he hadn't seen in ages, it was just---it made him feel great.

"You are going to be on the top of everyone's best-dressed...best-looking, best dancer list come Monday morning. Or, the Tattler gets out pretty quick, so by tomorrow you'll be a superstar," Vinny said with a cheeky, wide grin. "And that's all your doing, Miss. Cadwallader."

At least he was agreeing with her. She knew that it was a big deal here that he was coming back to the major leagues and actually going out in public. She (and the rest of the Quidditch team back home) had had enough problems getting him out on the town when nobody knew who he was. Having him here -- well, she was glad to see that he was settling in and enjoying himself. Sometimes you just had to let go of things in order to move on.

"Hmmm, am I? But the kind of dancing you guys do here..." she pursed her lips in a thin line and shot him an unimpressed look as he spun her, "...it's so stuffy!" Maybe if she managed to get enough beer into herself and Vinny (or wine, maybe, since this was such a fancy shindig) she could liven up the place a little. Surely people would be receptive to letting loose a little.
