sarah f. stebbins ([info]sarahs) wrote in [info]valesco,
Automatically, Sarah's hand dug into her purse and she pulled out the Unstoppable Top, which spun on the floor for an infinite amount of time until it was touched by the one who started it up. Rory could watch it spin for hours, or at least have it within his line of vision while he played with other toys. Sometimes Sarah started the top before the boy went down for a nap, and she would spot him waking up for just a second or to, locate the top, and then fall back asleep. She liked to think of it as a comforting sort of toy, letting Rory know that she hadn't left or taken it away.

It was really great, being part of a kid's life that way. It had taken Sarah no time to get used to being called mum, because she already loved Rory enough for like---twelve mums.

She was about to start it up when it seemed like a little parade of children came marching down the stairs, led by Sebastian and his two boys. They had little sparklers and noise makers, laughing and shrieking with delight. Rory and Sarah both turned their heads toward Brier with nearly identical, 'please please please?' expressions at the sight of the parade.
