Now that she had his attention, Odette felt herself falter. Balancing one foot on the heel of her shoe and rubbing the other into the ground, she toyed with the idea of simply making out with Noah now to postpone this whole plan until later. Maybe--- maybe she should wait until after the holidays were over to address this. It was so close to Christmas, and she didn't want to trigger anything... this was their first Christmas together together, after all, and Anna's very first! Would she be ruining it by doing this?
But there was potential of ruining Christmas Day if she let this fester more than it already had. Odette just--- had to know why. And that--- she wanted him to know that she supported him, and that he could talk to her about anything. It was-- it made her feel guilty, and sad, that he thought he couldn't, or didn't even want to. Did that mean she was a bad wife? A bad person? She didn't know what to do.
Taking a deep breath, Odette closed her eyes for a brief moment. Why did finding the right words always seem so hard? Before, she would just say the first thing that popped to mind. But she couldn't do that now, Noah meant much more to her than that.
"I just---" she started, then began to shake her head. No, no there were too many people here. Besides, Odette hardly doubted Noah's friend would enjoy them making a scene at their own party. Grabbing his hand, Odette pulled Noah across and out the room, eventually to a much more private area outside.
Before speaking again, Odette placed Noah carefully in front of her, watching his face as she took another deep breath of stale air. "I just want to talk about what--- happened to you around this time in school." If the situation hadn't been so severe, Odette would have been very proud of herself for such a gentle entry into the topic.
