WHO: Seth and Henry Wadcock
WHAT: New business arrangements!
WHERE: Magpies' Locker Room
WHEN: Today!
Seth dealt with stress best when on the pitch, and with all the shit that was going on, Seth really needed some stress relief. Beating the shit out of bludgers helped just as much as you would think it would, if not more. So when Leanne wanted to go to daycare to play with her friends, Seth took the opportunity to get in a few hours of extra practice. He was serious about trying to get his position back, so he had to get in what he could when he could.
He rubbed a towel through his hair while he shuffled through his bag looking for a clean shirt when he heard someone walking through the locker room. “Locker room is off limits unless you’re on the team,” he called out, not bothering to look up. None of the other guys had any plans to be there as it was an off day and half of them were dealing with the kidnapping crisis.
Henry stood in the entrance of the locker room, nose upturned at the smell. He’d always hated the place, and it irritated him to no end when his players forced him to come and have their talks in there. But, this was the only place he would be able to capture his brother without any other person spotting them before their big announcement (unaware as Seth was about it, it was still big).
He pulled at the cuffs of his robes, staring down at the fine embroidery of the design. This was going to be more tedious than anything, but how could an overshadowed younger brother resist the chance to control every single moment of his egotistical elder brother’s life? Add to the fact that the younger brother was a Slytherin, and a very good one, Henry didn’t see any way for him to have rejected the offer the Magpies’ had put on the table.
“No. Players, coaches, their agents, and the press--at approved times, of course--are allowed in the locker rooms.” Henry took another step in, his eyes taking in the room, “Though I would understand why this team would want to keep any outsiders away from their supposedly only place of sanctuary.”
Seth’s eyes shot up at the sound of the familiar voice. A familiar voice that still didn’t belong in the locker room. He hadn’t seen his brother in person in ages, yet here he was standing in his locker room. He frowned slightly. Something was up, Seth was always the one who sought him out. Mostly to annoy him, but the fact remained the same.
And of course he would know the specific rules, Seth just rolled his eyes. “Okay, smart ass, doesn’t change the fact that you don’t qualify.” he said pulling his shirt over his head. “What do you want, Henry?”
Normally the name calling would send him into a frustrated fit, as his brother was constantly concocting nicknames for him. A few choice words threatened to escape past his lips, but Henry forced himself to remain professional, and in turn a smile lit up on his face.
“I absolutely qualify,” he said, striding into the room and pulling out of his briefcase the rolls of parchment he needed Seth to sign. This wasn’t something that was normally done in the league, but the Magpies’ had approached him early this morning, and it was quickly turning out to be a new adventure. “You fired your agent last week, correct? And as you can’t claim to be a professional player without a representative, the general manager of the Magpies has appointed someone for you. Temporarily, until you can find someone that is willing to take on your...business.”
Henry slapped the documents down onto the table, smiling tightly at his brother. “If you want to play in this weekend’s game, I suggest you sign on the dotted line.”
Seth just stared at Henry dumbfounded because there was just noway. Yes he fired his agent the week before but mostly because Magpie management pretty much requested it. They had stated that if he wanted his job back he really needed to shape up and work for it. And his Agent wasn’t doing anything to help that, mostly because he figured bad press was better than no press and really didn’t know how to make good press for Seth. Seth was the one who thought of going to the kid’s camp. He also didn’t bother hiring anyone new, not yet anyways. He could handle the day to day stuff for the time being.
He snatched the paperwork that Henry just slapped on the table and scanned it quickly and set his jaw firmly when he realized his brother wasn’t making any of this up. “Of all the fucking agents, they pick you.” Seth huffed like a kid as he was reading. And then he realized that this pretty much gave his little snake of a brother control over practically everything. When Seth told management that he would whatever they wanted to get his job back, he didn’t think that they would take it so literally and hire someone to do their bidding. Okay, maybe he did, but not his baby brother.
“I’m not signing this,” Seth started out eyeing Henry, “unless I have proof you aren’t going to try and sabotage me somewhere along the way. I’m serious about this. I want Captain and unless you’re seriously going to help me, I’m not signing and I’ll sit out the next game.”
“Proof? How am I supposed to prove to you things that would happen in the future, if they were even going to happen at all?”
Henry blinked at Seth, wondering if he’d been given all the sense in the family. No, he was not going to ruin his brother’s life or career, what sense would that make? Seth had done a good job of that on his own, if Henry really wanted him to fail, he would have let an agent half as good as he was to take the position in trying to control his brother’s ways. Supposedly Seth had been trying to calm down, but who knew how turbulent this next season could be.
“Ruining your reputation would ruin mine, and I will not allow that to happen,” Henry said, quite honest with his statement. “The Magpies want you to have the best, so they got you the best. If you listen to me, then you’ll have your captain-ship in no time.”
His eyebrows rose, and he handed his brother a quill.
“Good enough for me” Seth said once Henry mentioned his own reputation. He was a Slytherin after all, he wouldn’t do anything to ruin his name and Seth figured that it would be mutually beneficial. He took the quill from his brother and signed the parchment. “There we are. All done. Do you require anything else? Or can I go pick up Leanne now?” he said pushing everything back towards his brother.
He picked up his bag and slung it over his shoulder. “I suppose you could come along if you wish, she seemed to like you for some odd reason, or is this a strictly business relationship?”
Henry swiped up the roll of parchment and tucked it into his briefcase in one quick motion. He stiffened at the idea of having some sort of...family gathering. Of course he’d met his niece, and he had sent her birthday gifts and would prepare something nice for Christmas, but. Dealing with children was not on Henry’s resume. They were gross. And they made a lot of noise. And they cried.
But---Seth was his new client. As much as Henry was going to enjoy driving his brother mad, he had to keep him somewhat happy, too. And...it was his niece. She couldn’t be too terrifying, could she?
“That’s fine. I’ll be in the waiting room going over your next month’s schedule.” Henry nodded stiffly and turned, quickly leaving the locker room feeling accomplished and nauseous.
