After forty minutes of practicing Riddikulus, the group was ushered back out into the hallway. Professor Swift, who rarely said more at the defense meetings than little corrections on Emmeline's procedure, stood aside as Emmeline faced the group, and she clapped her hands together, wand still held tightly between them.

"All right. This is the hard part," she was used to ignoring the fact that these were people she went to class with, who she was technically on the 'same level' with. Emmeline had to, because sometimes there were jerks who thought they knew what they were doing and nearly blew each other's heads off with a wayward spell. So, no, she didn't talk to them like her friends when the defense club was in session, Emmeline was in charge of teaching them and keeping them alive (because Swift sure as hell didn't, not when her nails were still drying). "It's going to be one at a time, to keep the boggart from getting too crazy."

"Professor Swift and I will be in the room, along with the trunk. For your safety, not because of some strange interest to see what your boggart is---if we had a professor of any sort of caliber in third year, we would have been facing them there and we all would have seen anyway. There shouldn't be any problem performing the spell, but if you simply cannot, the panic word is 'Hogwarts,' yes, I know, original---"

She smirked, eyebrows going high and looking toward the first person in line, "Ready? Let's go."

ooc: Tag like a party thread, a new comment for each person. If you want to continue out in the hallway with someone, be my guest.

Chloe was never one for hiding from anything; her own worst fear? How bad could it be? She wasn't afraid of very many things at all. So when they had been ushered into the hallway, she had scrambled for first position.

Panic word Hogwarts? She snorted- she wouldn't be needing it.

"Ready," she said to Emmeline, gripping her wand tightly. She nodded to Professor Swift who unleashed the boggart.

She was standing in front of herself, in some disgustingly fancy dress and heaps of make-up, with a coy little smile on her face. The first word that came to mind was ...

"Fuck ..." she hissed, staring at her pretty-self. "Fuck, fuck fuck." This hadn't been what she expected at all. Figured she wasn't scared of like, mummies or something. This? This she wasn't sure how to beat. She could feel her heart racing and she fumbled for "Riddikulus", muttering it weakly. Nothing happened and she could feel her hand shaking, both from the adrenaline and from her own fear. Her self, her boggart, just smiled, waved, blew a kiss at her.

Sick. She was going to throw up from it all. "Emme-" she started, backing up from her boggart as it continued to advance on her; she was shaking madly now and glanced at her friend. "Help?"

Emmeline was having such a hard time not laughing. Maybe she should've, because then the boggart would've disappeared already. But, she managed to keep a straight face, and when Chloe called out for help (Emmeline smirked, she had heard the snort--), she jumped in front of the girl, and the boggart immediately changed into Fenrir Greyback, snarling and ready to transform into a werewolf.

Well. That was interesting. She'd had a feeling that it would be Greyback, but Professor Swift hadn't let her try out the boggart before the lesson. Emmeline took a quick stance, knowing that she'd already really hexed Greyback once, so this shouldn't be so hard.

Potter wedding, dancing with Frank---the puppies! The Order's Christmas party----!

"Riddikulus!" she shouted, and the spell shot straight into Fenrir's chest, and he swirled and the man spun around and was in a children's sailor suit. A burst of laughter shot out, and the boggart disappeared into the trunk.

So. She feared, most of all, being something she was very much not. Well, that was semi-good to know. Emmeline's fear was werewolves, which Chloe found interesting- far more interesting than mummies or banshies, or Merlin only knew what else the other kids feared. She wanted to know 'why a werewolf?' but figured now, exactly, probably wasn't the best time to be asking that question. Instead, she glanced at Swift, who look slightly amused at the situation, then back to Emmeline.

It had been useful, the lesson, but there was still one thing.

"Well," she said softly to Emmeline. "How do I beat it next time?"

Emmeline twisted her wand idly, staring at the trunk as she listened to Chloe's worries. It wasn't the spell that the girl couldn't do, no, Emmeline was quite sure Chloe would be able to handle it, but conquering the fear. Hm.

"I say," she started, looking to Chloe with a smirk, "You've got to think of your happiest memory, yeah? Or a bunch of them? Build up all of those little...ah...random acts of Chloe that you've compiled over the years. Give that priss a run for her money."

She grinned a bit wickedly, looking over at the professor, who was dusting the dingy windows. Ugh. "Do you want to try it again?"

Chloe thought about that, the advice. "Yeah, alright," she finally said to Emmeline, looking carefully at her professor, who seemed extremely disinterested. She rummaged in her pockets to find an elastic. Smirking at Emmeline, she pulled her hair up in a tight ponytail. "Right, I think I know how to show that ... bitch just who she's messing with," Chloe said, determined.

Emmeline let out the boggart and there she was again, the prissy, bitchy Chloe who wasn't Chloe. Chloe hesitated for a moment, then shook her head, running through her head all of her most recent dares. She smiled, reaching up to pull out her ponytail and scruffing up her hair.

The Boggart!Chloe looked shocked and Chloe laughed. "Riddikulus!" she shouted and the boggart shuddered twice, then disappeared back into the trunk.

"Holy fucking Christ," she muttered, not caring what Swift thought. "I know that's not, like, terrifying, but shite, that's fucking terrifying." Then she laughed. "Thank you. Ah, I feel like I accomplished something. Anyway, have fun with the rest of them. I'll try to be afraid of more terrifying things next time."

With a small wave, she disappeared out the door. She had beat a boggart. A nasty, disgusting, terrifying boggart, but she had beat it. She smiled, off to reward herself with an acid pop. And perhaps write to Clara.

"Why didn't you help me!"

Eliza's lips twisted into a frown, eyes narrowed at Brianna---or, well, the boggart that had turned into her friend. She was deathly pale, and Eliza's eyes widened as she lifted up a knife to slash across her wrists---her eyes shut tightly, and when she opened them, it was Ingrid, screaming at her and so very upset.

"You could have stopped it!" Ingrid shouted, and Eliza's tongue twisted angrily in her mouth. She couldn't have. Her hand was tight around her wand, but she didn't want to fight it just yet, some strange part of her needed to see---again, her friend raised the knife, and Eliza's eyes shut. When they opened, her mouth dropped, and she raised her wand.

"You're a horrible person for this----" Dedalus was exclaiming, taking steps closer to her, but Eliza fired off the spell, feet planted like Emmeline had instructed her to, and the boggart cracked and Eliza covered her mouth quickly.

"Don't stop the laughter!" Emmeline voice came through her own shrill giggles at the sight of Dedalus in a skirt and pigtails. The boggart blanched greatly and disappeared into the trunk, and Eliza kept laughing.
