Devon!
There was a plan and it was set in motion from the moment that Devon left work for the day. Darren knew it was a little mad, but it was going smoothly thus far. It had been hatched between him, Aland, and Grail just one day before, when they had met up for drinks and Darren had shown them the ring. Of course, Grail had called him a nutter and said he should call the whole thing off, but thankfully, Aland had been louder in his support of getting this over with already.

Knowing that Devon would go from the floo to wine cabinet first thing, when she arrived home, was the key. Quite literally. The entire plan hinged on her going to the wine cabinet; the door handle was actually a port key. Thanks to a little help from his friends, the moment that Devon touched the cabinet, she would be transported to a place they both knew well – an enchanted bridge in rural Ireland where Darren had confessed his full love for her months earlier. The bridge was said to seal any relationship that was meant to be when lovers crossed it and well, Darren wanted to make damn sure that it all worked out, this time, too. Checking a pocket watch, he saw that it was time for her to be arriving home.

He took a deep breath and hoped she wasn’t apparated to plop in the stream below where he stood.

Darren wasn't one to be nervous, ever, but as the seconds clicked away, the waiting made him more than a little antsy. He wanted Devon to be here and for it to be over with before he had a chance to change his mind -- which he'd done at least a dozen times since arriving at the bridge. Commitment was not Darren's strong suit, in any shape or form. How he'd stayed with Devon for nigh on three years was beyond him. He really didn't understand why she put up with him. He hadn't exactly been the best of partners. That was likely another reason he was nervous -- would she say yes?

The pop of Devon's apparation startled Darren, though his face didn't show it. He'd known she'd eventually show, he simply couldn't believe this foolhardy plan was actually working. He was going to propose to her, right here. Bloody hell this was nuts.

Darren smirked when she first spoke. He eyed her, from head to toe, as she walked toward him, taking in the beautiful woman who would hopefully be his fiance. His hands, one thumbing over the band of a ring, were in the pockets of his dark slacks over which he wore a equally dark button-down shirt. His hair was slicked and his jaw was shaved with a light scent of an after shave, there.

Letting her question fall on the air, Darren stared down at Devon with a smile in his eyes and on his lips. "I apologize for the abrupt trip, but you'll be thankful," a beat passed as he swallowed thickly, "in a moment."

He pulled a hand from his pocket to help her tuck more hair into the messy up-do, allow his fingers to graze her cheek as he did so. "Do you remember the last time we were here?" he asked softly.

She leaned instinctively into his touch, her hands coming from their place behind her back in order to place themselves at his sides, feeling the muscular frame of his body beneath the fabric of his shirt. She loved how warm he always was, even in the winter time when she was absolutely frozen solid, and could barely feel her fingers or toes, and he would be there to provide the heat she so desperately needed – whether it be while they were hidden away beneath the sheets of their bed, or when he would come up from behind and put his arms around her and bury his face into her neck, a sensation that always made her eyes shut and caused her skin to rise with goose bumps.

The question he asked caused her mouth to curl up into a coy little smirk, her nose scrunching slightly. “Mmm…vaguely.” Of course she remembered, and he knew she did, and always would. It was something that was impossible for her to forget, him finally, after so many years, telling her that he was in love with her – something she had suspected for a very long time. It was one of the reasons why she had stayed with him, even after everything he had put her through that would have probably made any other woman say ‘fuck you’ and not even bother. She had to hear it from everyone, especially her family, how stupid she was for staying with him after she had spent so many nights crying because of him. It had started with him kissing another woman, and then there was him completely disappearing off the face of the earth, and…well, there was such a long list, that it would probably take her all year to try and think of everything.

But she was in love with him…completely, madly in love with the man standing in front of her on the bridge, and maybe it was that madness that kept her hanging on, but they had come so far. He had changed, and for the better, and he was trying so hard to make things work, to make sure that he didn’t cause her any more pain.

If he had, she didn’t know if she could keep holding on to something that hurt that badly…then again, she probably should have let go such a long time ago, but then they never would have ever been standing on that bridge – not now, or the time before. She had to keep telling herself that this, they were worth it…and it was moments like these that made her so convinced of just that.

She wasn’t going to give up on him like everyone else in his life seemed to. She wasn’t going to always assume the worst...but it was hard not to, at times, because of how many times she had been burned for being so incredibly stupid and naïve. Or, that’s how she felt. Pushing those thoughts to the back of her mind, she raised herself up onto her toes, letting her lips greet his with a soft and chaste kiss, pulling back so she could lift one of her hands to the side of his face, the pad of her thumb running along his cheek as she lowered herself back down onto her heels.

“This is my favorite place…” She said softly, her eyes locking with his as she remembered again what magnificent sensations ran through her the last time she had been there.
