She leaned instinctively into his touch, her hands coming from their place behind her back in order to place themselves at his sides, feeling the muscular frame of his body beneath the fabric of his shirt. She loved how warm he always was, even in the winter time when she was absolutely frozen solid, and could barely feel her fingers or toes, and he would be there to provide the heat she so desperately needed – whether it be while they were hidden away beneath the sheets of their bed, or when he would come up from behind and put his arms around her and bury his face into her neck, a sensation that always made her eyes shut and caused her skin to rise with goose bumps.
The question he asked caused her mouth to curl up into a coy little smirk, her nose scrunching slightly. “Mmm…vaguely.” Of course she remembered, and he knew she did, and always would. It was something that was impossible for her to forget, him finally, after so many years, telling her that he was in love with her – something she had suspected for a very long time. It was one of the reasons why she had stayed with him, even after everything he had put her through that would have probably made any other woman say ‘fuck you’ and not even bother. She had to hear it from everyone, especially her family, how stupid she was for staying with him after she had spent so many nights crying because of him. It had started with him kissing another woman, and then there was him completely disappearing off the face of the earth, and…well, there was such a long list, that it would probably take her all year to try and think of everything.
But she was in love with him…completely, madly in love with the man standing in front of her on the bridge, and maybe it was that madness that kept her hanging on, but they had come so far. He had changed, and for the better, and he was trying so hard to make things work, to make sure that he didn’t cause her any more pain.
If he had, she didn’t know if she could keep holding on to something that hurt that badly…then again, she probably should have let go such a long time ago, but then they never would have ever been standing on that bridge – not now, or the time before. She had to keep telling herself that this, they were worth it…and it was moments like these that made her so convinced of just that.
She wasn’t going to give up on him like everyone else in his life seemed to. She wasn’t going to always assume the worst...but it was hard not to, at times, because of how many times she had been burned for being so incredibly stupid and naïve. Or, that’s how she felt. Pushing those thoughts to the back of her mind, she raised herself up onto her toes, letting her lips greet his with a soft and chaste kiss, pulling back so she could lift one of her hands to the side of his face, the pad of her thumb running along his cheek as she lowered herself back down onto her heels.
“This is my favorite place…” She said softly, her eyes locking with his as she remembered again what magnificent sensations ran through her the last time she had been there.
