Darren knew Devon all too well, to suspect that she would need a glass of wine in order to take the edge off after an excruciatingly long day at work. Being the secretary for the Auror offices kept her extremely busy, especially in these times – not to mention the fact that her brother was a bloody wreck because of what had happened to one of his best friend. She always seemed to end the day with a pounding headache, her eyes nearly crossed because of all the letters she had to read that were sent by owl, trying to schedule in appointments and keep track of all the messages that were left on her desk by the Aurors themselves. There used to be a time when she could sit for a second and have some time to herself, but she was lucky if she even got to go on a lunch break because of how much needed to be done. The most recent Death Eater attack had the entire department worked up in a frenzy, and if it wasn’t for the quill she had charmed to write out multiple copies of things, she was sure she’d already have carpel tunnel.
Stepping out of the fire place as the floo brought her to where she needed to be, she carefully dusted off the ash from her dress, tossing her bag lazily onto the couch, using the hair tie that was around her wrist to pull back auburn waves into a loose ponytail. Her heels were still on, having planned on kicking them off on her way into the bedroom after she had poured herself the much needed glass of crimson wine, and they clicked against the tiles in the kitchen as she stepped towards the cabinet. As he expected, slender fingers reached out to open the door, only to be completely and utterly startled by the sudden sensation in her stomach, gasping as she braced herself for the unexpected journey from one place to another.
Thankfully, for all parties involved, Devon had landed on the bridge, wobbling slightly on the heels she was still wearing in order to keep her balance, her hand reaching out for the ledge to make sure she didn’t topple over. “Bloody heels…” She murmured to herself, looking down at the aforementioned footwear before she turned, honing her attention in on Darren, not really taking the time to realize where it was she had actually been transported to until she was balanced out again. Hazel eyes took a quick look around, smiling softly before her attention was back on him while leaning her weight into the ledge she was still leaning against, her head canting slightly to the side.
“You know I love surprises…but you also know you’d be a dead man if I had fallen into the water.” Her hand tucked back the shorter strands of her hair that hadn’t been pulled back by the hair tie, pushing away from the ledge so she could take slow strides towards him, her hands linked behind her back as she approached.
“You didn’t happen to bring wine, did you?” She was half-joking, and gave another more playful smile as she stopped in front of him.
