noah!
Odette slammed her journal shut, letting out a loud string of frustrated words and noises. The nerve of that-- that--- thing to come back here! England (which also included Scotland and Wales) was her home, where her family lived, which meant he was never invited to come back here! Ever! Hadn't playing for the one of the best teams in the world been good enough? Of course not, nothing ever was--- just like how every moment he continued to exist made her want to scream and rip things apart.

And now she would have to play against him. That-- that--- that-- no matter how many times she reread his stupid journal entry, or pinched herself, she could not get rid of this realization. So he was fucking back. Great. Which meant it would only be a matter of time before he came knocking on their door, like always, infuriating and guilting her until no end!

Keeping her eyes closed, Odette attempted to push these thoughts out of her head. Not--- now, this was not for now. Later, she would deal with this catastrophe later. Today was Noah's birthday. He had no idea about this... situation, so there was absolutely no reason to bring it up now. No need to force him to realize she was keeping yet another skeleton from him. She took a few deep breaths, composing herself before returning back downstairs. Fuck whatever she had come up here to get, that was a lost cause now.

"Time for birthday cake!" She clapped her hands together as she spoke, lending a big smile to her family at the table before continuing on to the kitchen for their desert.

Terry had been bouncing since Odette had left the room, and now he somehow managed to bounce even harder in his high-chair as she returned. Noah sent him a sideways smirk, dropping his gaze once again to little Anna who was lying along the length of his forearms. He still couldn't believe that he'd helped make a tiny human being, let alone that this was the second child he had been chosen to raise and hopefully have grow up into a decent person.

That was a lot to put on someone's plate, really, and Noah had never thought he'd be served such a piece of life like this. Corny, sappy, birthday thoughts.

"Cake!" he said excitedly along with Terry, who had taken to slapping the table. Maybe he was taking this evening as practice for his own birthday which was just in two months. Merlin, he was going to be two, Anna had just turned one month, and he and Odette had been together for nearly a year and a half.

Yeppp, definitely hadn't expected any of this for himself, Noah Boot will tell you.

"What kind of cake?" Noah asked, not really caring but thinking it was a good question to ask as he moved Anna in his arms to cradle in his elbow.

This cake was something Odette was very proud of, if she said so herself. She hadn't graduated to baking a cake yet, no no, but she had researched and found a very good bakery in Manchester that would make it look like the cake had been homemade. That was a lot of effort and time right there--- more of the amount that would be needed to bake it at home! Except it hadn't been a disaster, it looked nice and it tasted good on the inside (the store owner had let her sample), so--- Noah better like it.

"It's a surprise," she spoke in a satisfied tone while placing the desert on the table. She had even gone and bought those trick candles that made little fireworks while they never went out. Completely safe, of course, no need to burn the house down. But it was the thought that counted, wasn't it? Odette hadn't done anything particularly extravagant for Noah's birthday--- at least not until later when the children were asleep.

Standing close, she sent a quick wink to Terry across the table before pushing the cake close to Noah. "You have to blow the candles out before we can eat it..."
