WHO: Phoebe and Elphias Doge!
WHAT: She has to tell him something!
WHEN: Last week or so?
STATUS: Finishing in comments!
Their lunch break was supposed to be the time when Phoebe and her husband rushed home, had great, passionate sex, and then returned to their respective work places looking just slightly flustered. Today, however, it was going to be the exact,
exact opposite. Phoebe was going to tell Elphias that she was pregnant, he was going to faint, she was going to cry, and they were going to sit there forever and ever.
She didn't even know why she felt like crying. A baby was a good thing, right? They both had good jobs, they'd been married for over a year now, they were both out of school (even though Elphias didn't exactly finish, but). This should be a happy thing! Happy, happy, happy!
How could something that was supposed to be so
happy be so bloody terrifying?
Phoebe opened her front door to see that her husband was already there, and she smiled. Okay. Okay! She could tell him this, he's told her worse things than this! Plus, they'd have really cute babies, right? That's what mattered. Really cute, really smart babies.
With no social cues whatsoever.
"Hiiiiii."
Elphias was happy. Well, as happy as you could be in a time a war as a fighter for the doomed-side of a cause, but he had his health, for now, and a wife, and a job, so what more could he possibly want or need? Everything was fine. Nothing needed to change. Not that he was expecting anything to change. He was completely clueless. Though, he was mildly concerned -- no, deeply concerned about Phoebe since she'd gone ill on her birthday. Still, she seemed fine, now. Albeit, she did look a little nervous, but that was normal. They were both prone to anxiety and whatnot, so it was nothing new. And it was always especially hectic around this time -- lunch time. They didn't have very long. It always seemed to put him a little on-edge, but that helped the situation. Or something. That's what he'd convinced himself. Better sex was always a good thing.
Already toeing out of his shoes and tugging at his tie, Elphias's face lit up when Phoebe came through the door. Letting go of the half-tugged tie he made a quick move to sweep her off of her feet and kiss her, which came more as an awkward embrace and near-miss of a kiss on the lips.
"Hello, love," he said shyly. It was silly, but she always made him a tad nervous when she didn't immediately pounce. He wasn't very good with words. At least, not when it came to Phoebe and throws of passion, or whatever they were calling it these days.
Phoebe hummed happily into Elphias' mouth and wrapped her arms around him. Maybe she could just forget about telling him the news, and they could have their fun like they always did. She loved the rush, and she loved that Elphias was just as eager to be with her as she was to be with him.
That was exciting, especially for a person who had only kissed one boy (ONCE! Ever!) before she'd kissed the man who would be her husband.
She didn't want to pull away but eventually had to, because they had to breathe. Phoebe smiled at Elphias, her eyes jumping over his face to take in every detail. They
were going to have beautiful children. The warmth she felt right now comforted her and Phoebe decided that maybe this wouldn't be so bad. Elphias was in such good spirits lately, and she was actually gaining some ground at the law offices, so! Life was certainly looking up for the Doges, this baby could only make things better.
"I have some good news," she said, and the moment the words left her mouth her nerves began to come back to her. Phoebe pulled herself closer to Elphias, hoping that the close proximity would help her be brave. Her foot was beginning to bounce, though, and her fingers clenched onto his shirt.
