Notes: Finishing in comments because Cristina disappeared :D
If Seth was completely honest, he didn't really think that he was actually going to get this far, as in actually taking Holly out. Not because he didn't believe that the Magpies' weren't going to make it to the Semi's, he
knew that was going to happen, but he honestly figured that Holly was just going to find a way to bail out. It wasn't like agreements in journals were super official anyways.
He rocked on his heels waiting for her to answer the door after he knocked with his hands clasped behind his back. She certainly was taking a long time to come to the door. He really hoped that she wasn't getting dressed up too fancy, as he was just in jeans, a t-shirt and his leather jacket. Maybe he should have given her at least a hint as to what he had planned. Eh, too late now, he'd just have to wait for her to change if she was dressed too nice.
He knocked on the door again after a few more minutes getting slightly impatient. "Come on now, we're wasting day light!"
Holly's eyes narrowed at her front door as she packed her purse with the last bit of 'essential accessories' that Willow had enforced on her. Of course she could leave all these things home and her captain wouldn't have any idea, but Holly would rather not have to lie during the playoffs---that just ruined team morale and she didn't need any sort of distraction, no matter how supposedly insignificant.
Which is why this 'date' or whatever Wadcock wanted to call it was the last thing she wanted to do. Of course he didn't realize how important it was for the current Phoenix League champion
seeker, because he had never been in that sort of position---she supposed as a United, but that was eons ago in the quidditch world. Holly was not going to lose her title to McLaggen of all people, and if Wadcock had some sort of information that could help her edge out her nemesis (yes, the rivalry had grown to that), then, well.
A small, tiny voice in her head told her that this was probably not the best reason to be going out on a date with someone, but then the much louder, silver and green clad voice that usually controlled her mind shoved the tiny voice into the far away corner it was used to. And, anyway, she
had lost a bet.
Finally deciding he had been standing out there long enough to be punished for being rude and impatient, Holly opened the door. She hadn't called out to Seth to let him know she was almost ready, because that would have given him far too much satisfaction. What was with these quidditch men, anyway?
"It's noon, we have enough daylight," she said, shutting her door behind her.
"So says you." he said with a teasing smile. "And might I add you look positively stunning, well worth the wait." He turned to lead the way only taking a few steps before turning to face her while walking backwards. "And I hope you don't mind getting that outfit a little dirty. Hey hey, don't look at me like that. Were you really expecting me to take you to some cafe where we'd sip coffee and I'd just sing like a canary about my old team mates to give you a leg up? Riiight. Well that's not happening. Just because we're on a date doesn't mean I'm not going to make you work for the information. Again with the looks. You know I'm not the complete pig everyone makes me out to be. I'm perfectly capable of being a gentleman."
He clapped his hands together and turned back around. "Right then food first, I think I saw a sandwich stand not to far up here."
She almost stopped in her tracks and walked back to her flat. What...was this man on? See, this is why she didn't date. Everything got too damn confusing too quickly; why was he actually
trying? Holly frowned slightly at the thought and just continued to follow Seth as he went on and on.
"A sandwich stand,
really," she drawled, stepping onto the lift and rolling her eyes up to watch the numbers go down. If he was joking, it wasn't funny, and if he wasn't...the couldn't be sanitary. Her hands clasped her small purse tightly in front of her, hoping for some sort of catastrophe to strike to get her the fuck out of here.
Ugh, she just---it was just not within her to do anything relationship like. Not that this was going anywhere toward a relationship, but this whole
date thing got her completely flustered and unlike herself because she had to
act unlike herself because you couldn't be a complete stoney bitch on a
date and---
Holly lost her footing and was nearly thrown across the lift as they jerked to a stop, the lights flickering. Her eyes widened and she looked at Seth, "Did that just--"
"Stop. Probably just need to--" He pressed the button for the ground floor, and again frowning as nothing happened. Then the lights started flickering again. Okay so the lift had decided that it wasn't going to work anymore. This was a non-issue because they were wizards and could totally get out of there just fine. "Oookay it's not working. Let's just apparate out of here and be on our way then."
And then he figured out that he couldn't apparate and his frowned deepened. "Your building has one of those designated apparation areas that you can't apparate out of, doesn't it." He really didn't even need to see her nod for confirmation. Not that anyone really knew this, because it really didn't apply to every day life, but Seth had an issue with small closed spaces he couldn't get out of. Not that this was going to be a problem because could get out. He just had to figure out how. This was going to be a non-issue.
"Well this is just peachy." he said leaning against the wall trying his best to look casual.
"There's---there are muggles here, too, and some idiot a few years ago disapparated into the wrong flat and caused a huge fuss and you're fucking
kidding me!" she snapped at the shut doors, slapping her palm against the metal. Holly could feel her heart pounding against her rib cage in anger. This was the absolute last thing she needed! She'd already tensed herself up over this damn date, and
now she was stuck in an itty bitty enclosure with the most annoying man on the planet.
Well, at least that's what the tabloids and Odette MacFarlan had called Seth Wadcock.
Holly took a breath and pushed Seth away from the operation buttons, and pulled the emergency tab. A voice appeared immediately and she explained their situation, but,
"---all of our servicemen are out right now--it'll be about half an hour before someone could get up there---"
"Well hurry the fuck up!" Holly nearly shrieked, letting go of the button and dropping down to the floor of the lift with a great huff. Of course it helped rock the lift just a bit, and she planted her hands on the ground, wincing. Opening one eye, she looked over to Seth, and her expression changed, "You look like you're ready to vomit."
Oh and now Holly was getting stressed out and yelling if that wasn't helping Seth not freak out the fact that it would be at least half an hour until someone could get there definitely wasn't because what that really translated to was 'oh hey we may or may not be there in a hour or two and then who knows how long until we can actually fix the problem.' Basically they were screwed. Maybe all things muggle were out to get him. First he gets shot and now he was stuck in a damn lift, what next. Getting hit by a car?
He slid down the wall after Holly did, it wasn't the fact the lift might fall that bugged him, he played quidditch after all. Heights did not bug him one bit. He was totally fine with it maybe plummeting to the ground, maybe then the doors would break open and they could get out. And maybe, just maybe he was a little pale and sweaty. And although he felt like he was going to vomit he was not. Because the one thing worse than being stuck in a lift would be being stuck in a lift someone just vomited in.
"I'm fine." he said a little too quickly. "I'm just disappointed that we're stuck here. I had a fantastic day planned. I think you were going to actually enjoy it." Diversionary tactics always worked best.
Holly continued to stare at Seth with a hard glare before huffing and turning away. She should have listened to Lydia when it came to this guy, or believed the tabloids. Only trouble followed Seth Wadcock around, and she'd bloody agreed to tag along.
"Oh?" she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm, "This wasn't the first part of it? Because I'm having a
blast sitting in this tiny lift waiting for it to plummet ten stories down and mangle our bodies in the metal disaster."
The image she created for herself was quite vivid, and for a moment she wished she hadn't. But Holly grew weary of feeling sorry for herself; that was something the weak did and she would never allow herself to feel weak. So, she was reminded about why this date with Seth had turned into something beneficial. "Well, I suppose you have no reason not to give me some dish on Puddlemere, eh? Unless you've got something better to do."
"Oh yes because I planned for this to happen. This is just about as much fun as being
shot and stuck in a
muggle hospital. Tomorrow I planned to get hit by a fucking car or something else muggle related." he snarked pressing the heels of his hands into his eyes. Merlin this lift
was tiny. He really just needed to focus on something else. "I mean it wasn't even really a plan, really I was just going to take you along with me on what I normally do. There is usually a pickup game of futball or rugby or something down at the park. Something to keep you active but takes some stress away from thinking quidditch all the time." Seth may not know much about muggles but he did know muggle sports, he had to do something to keep himself fit during the off season. And playing quidditch all the time wore you out.
He ran his hand through his hair tugging on the ends slightly while staring at the door. He almost missed her question. "Honestly, I doubt I even know anything relevant anymore. I was mostly talking shit. I mean I haven't been on the team in two years. That and McLaggen has completely changed since I've played with him. The Finn I played with would laugh in my face if I told him that he'd be married with two kids right about now." He shrugged glancing around the lift his eye catching on a panel in the ceiling. Oh, he could so pull himself up through that.
He stood up and tested the hand rail with his weight before hoisting himself up and propping his foot on the edge to reach the panel and slide it a side. Oh and look, the door right there for the floor above. "Ha! I can so get us out of here. I'll just pull myself up and pry those doors open. Then I'll help you up."
Holly was now beyond irritated. This guy didn't think
anything he knew about the United would help her out?
Really? So not only is she stuck in a bloody lift, but she would get absolutely nothing out of this date with Seth Wadcock. She had
thought that maybe it could get interesting, given his past, but no. He was just as useless as everyone liked to say he was. Or maybe just as selfish. Or maybe just---
"You're not doing that," Holly stated, watching him from the floor of the lift. She felt like staying on the ground, but the man was almost moving frantically toward the hole in the ceiling, and---what if the lift started moving, and he was up there? Who knew how these things really worked, he could get
crushed or fall down the shaft, "Get the fuck down, Wadcock, before you get yourself killed."
She huffed and crossed her arms and her legs at her ankles. "Just---sit down! It's not like we're suffocating."
