Usually Brier didn't mind shopping, really. He had a system worked out, he had a list in order of where things were on Diagon Alley and he went down that list in that order. It maximized efficiency and got his chore done in the least amount of time. Usually he did it on his lunch break, when Rory was at the day care facility, but this week hadn't allowed for him to take an out-of-facility break, so now Brier was at the market with a tearful Rory on his hip, trying to juggle a basket and a baby. Rory seemed to not want to be set down, gripping Brier's collar and pressing his face into Brier's neck and hiccuping slightly. Brier was just glad the boy was not crying anymore.
He felt bad for the toddler, but teething was definitely not something he could help too much. Brier didn't want to give him too much medicine, because he wanted to know if it got really bad, if he numbed him up the whole time, then how would he know that? He did feel very guilty though, that he couldn't help as much. He kissed the side of Rory's head and bounced him a little, "I know buddy, we'll get some applesauce though, maybe that will help?" He set the basket down and started picking through some of the fruit. He wanted to get some to bring to work for lunches, but Brier didn't like anything that would spot too easy. He leaned forward to reach the bananas, and Rory jostled, leaning forward to grab something as well and managed to knock a handful of apples off the stand.
"Oh, merlin, Rory," Brier grumbled and the baby started sniffling and looking like he was going to cry again. "Oh shh, its okay, here look, we'll pick them up. You want an apple?" He crouched down to pick up some of the apples, handing one to Rory and reaching for another, his hand bumped into someone else's. He looked up and smiled, "Sorry, thanks. He got away from me a little."
