Corner/Englewood Wedding! For New Year's Eve!
Getting married was absolutely terrifying. No matter how smoothly Gabriel proceeded through the planning, the discussions, and the actual event, he was holding back getting sick the second he could catch a moment to himself. He knew he didn't love Rachel yet, which might be the reason why he was finding himself so nervous as they sat at the head table of their reception, but he did honestly---he did honestly believe that he could fall in love with this woman. She was fiery with a mind of her own, and though some people might be irritated by it, Gabriel actually appreciated the way she took control of things. He had always been a bit of a follower, and it was easy to agree with Rachel because her reasoning simply made sense.

The reception did look fantastic. Gabriel couldn't believe it was all put together within two short months, but then again he was learning that Rachel was a woman who set her goals and refused to leave them unfinished. Maybe he should look at that as a good thing; surely someone who did not want to get married would not have put so much effort into the ceremony? Or she simply wanted to throw the most beautiful wedding of them all, simply because she could. He didn't know, and didn't mind not finding out as long as they remained content with each other.

He did find her very interesting, however, and that was the first thing a Ravenclaw looked for in a spouse. Maybe all of his concerns were for naught, and it was simply wedding day jitters. His parents had been arranged in a similar manner, and they were still quite happily married (and sometimes nauseatingly sweet about it, too). Gabriel turned and smiled at Rachel, pushing his chair out and offering his hand, "Would you like to dance?"

A chorus of glasses clinging supported Gabriel, and he flushed slightly at all the attention that was on them, once again.

ooc: guest list! We did our best, but if we missed someone let us know!

She sat stiffly in her chair at the back of the reception hall, staring straight into nothing. Her thoughts were void of any sort of celebration, and Rebecca wondered how long her mother would force her to be here. She'd only shown up for Gabriel, who had actually advised her to stay home, but she knew she would regret (when she could feel again) missing his wedding.

It had only been three days. The funeral hadn't even occurred. There was no sense of closer, there was nothing that Rebecca could look to as a sign to start living again. She would never have thought she'd find herself so utterly miserable about a boy, but this was--Euan. They had only been together a short time, but she had...she'd seen a future with him, she was picking china patterns in her head, she had names and it was silly when he was alive but now it was completely destroyed. He was---

Tears immediately stung her eyes and Rebecca excused herself from her aunt and uncle as she could not show her emotions. Part of her was nearly glad for all the etiquette lessons that had been shoved down her throat, because she would never have been able to compose herself for as long as she had. She rushed out the doors as inconspicuously as possible and tried to remember where the washing rooms were, but couldn't. Rebecca pressed her hand to her chest to try and prevent the onslaught of tears, but she couldn't, and dropped down into a chair, burying her face in her hands.

Oh, his security detail had not been happy when he'd explained things to them. In fact, the first sixteen times that he pleaded with them to bring him to the Corner/Englewood wedding, they had blatantly rejected him. It wasn't until the seventeenth time where he'd listed off the character flaws of each of the Aurors in full that they had caved in and allowed him to go. Of course he'd had to pick up a tuxedo, although he felt rather ridiculous wearing it underneath of the hooded cloak they'd insisted that he wear.

He probably looked like a bloody Death Eater (ironic, no?) with the thing on, lurking outside the doors of the hall and scanning around nervously. Could you honestly blame him? He'd been attacked and he'd seen the man. He was a little sore from the onslaught, true, but his real concern and worry had been for Rebecca. How unfair it was that she couldn't know he was alive until -- well, until today, right now. His eyes lit up as he spotted her barreling out of the hall, but when she collapsed into the chair he just winced.

He was so apologizing about this for years...for multiple reasons. Euan cleared his throat as he knelt down to clasp Rebecca's hands, hoping she'd see him despite the fact he was partially shaded underneath the hood.

"You know how I hate to see you cry, Rebecca."

Archie dearest!

Isobel was quite pleased with herself. She'd given her sister the strictest of rules when it came to babysitting Ernie, and Eloise had dutifully responded with nods and agreements. There was to be no arguing when it came to the care of her son, and Izzie had been sure to put that point across very strongly. It was very rare for her to be put in charge when her sister was involved, but Izzie had handled it with much joy.

"Do you think they'll have a countdown to midnight?" she asked her husband, not turning to him but admiring all of the beautiful decorations. She felt like dancing and singing, and shimmying around because her dress sparkled. Why, this was the best she'd honestly felt in months! The holidays really did have quite an affect on people. "I hope they do, will you kiss me at midnight?"

Sure now turned to Archie and batted her eyes, excited for his answer.

It was a silly thing to be upset over, Archie realized, but he couldn't help it. But the entire evening, Archie found his gaze being drawn to the deceptively low V-neck of his wife's attire. And not in the nice, private, husband-and-wife (yes, husband-and-wife kind of way, what other way could you possibly mean!) way, but in the "if I'm looking at this, then I'm certain there are other people, other men, doing the same thing as I am" kind of way.

"Hmm?" he said, distracted. "Oh, of course, Isobel! You know I would."

He let a moment of silence pass before venturing to say, "My love… are you not a bit… under-dressed? For this time of the season, I mean. You look lovely, of course, and not inelegant—well, there's—no, I mean—!"

The time buzzed by Jonas. He felt like he was walking on the clouds, which might have been the wine's fault, but it was of no matter to him. He was happy, content, jovial even. One of his best friend's was now married! Of course, this meant he was supposed to get sloshed on punch and wine.

"We should dance," Jonas rumbled as he grabbed at Kobe from behind. His arms encircled her waist and he grinned mischievously against the back of her ear.

"We shouuuld!" Kobe chirped, her response turning into a release of giggles as Jonas nearly straddled her from behind. What a pretty wedding! What a fun wedding! She hoped their wedding would be as pretty, and as shiny, and as lovely! Though she wanted more pink. There was definitely going to be pink at her wedding, and Kobe was pretty sure Jonas would appreciate it fully!

They nearly waddled to the dance floor because of the awkward hold she was in, but finally Kobe pushed away from Jonas, only to rush back into his arms and grin from ear to ear. Boy, was this exciting! She was very good at talking to his friends, even if they were a lot quieter than Jonas was, and it was so nice to see one of them get married!

Even though she wasn't the mother to his child! Modern family, she supposed!

"What kind of music should we play at our wedding?" she asked, slipping her arms around his neck.

She was bored -- utterly, horrendously bored. And hungry, but too disgusted by the monstrosities that some of other witches were wearing, let alone the presence of Mudbloods.

Prisca sat with her chair sidled as close to the table as possible to hide the enormity that was her abdomen. She wore an ruched red dress that was devoid of any other frill. Her hair was in a tasteful knot with a beaded clasp. On her bare shoulders was a black velvet cloak to keep herself warm. A pompous pout was on her face as she watched the rest of the room.

"A proper wedding wouldn't have the likes of Jonas Ackerly in attendance, let alone as one of the wedding party," she said absently to her husband with an upturn of her nose. "This is absolutely vile."

Christopher honestly had no desire to find out who Jonas Ackerly was, and couldn't really figure out why his presence was so vile to his wife. Though, that didn't stop him from musing her. Over the past few months, he had found that going along with whatever Prisca said was the better road to take, especially when most of the time all she wanted to do was complain about someone or something. It actually wasn't that bothersome; most of the time he found her observations about people usually matched up with his own.

"My cousin did have a child with a mudblood. I'm sure she is walking around here somewhere..." Christopher responded, his face unexpressive as he spoke. Etiquette ruled he could only say so much concerning his family members, since Gabriel was married to a respectable pureblood now.

As Christopher spoke, his gaze dropped down to the table and he couldn't help but notice how close Prisca was to it. He supposed that she shouldn't be so embarrassed to show her stomach, but the pure fact that he was alright with not looking at how large she had grown stopped him from voicing any form of encouragement. Instead, he simply sighed.

Giada was glad she was wearing black. Her heart was definitely not into the day, but she forced herself to behave as excitedly as possible for the sake of her best friend. Rachel deserved to have her dream wedding (even if it wasn't to a man of her choosing? Giada would never be able to understand), and she was the maid of honor. Matron? Whatever the title, she needed to be on her best behavior and hype everyone up, getting everyone's nerves out, and just be exactly what she didn't feel like being.

It felt like one thing after another and she had no idea when it was going to stop. Giada knew that her 'role' in the war was nothing compared to some, but did it have to hit her, and her family and friends, all at once? Two of her Ravenclaw year mates had died because of the war, their wireless show had been canceled just hours after the news about Euan broke, and...it didn't seem like much when she laid it out.

Giada stared blankly across the hall, shoulders sulking. Rachel was out of sight so she was allowed to appear out of spirits. She did, however, always have an eye for her husband, and looked up slowly as Graeme positioned himself in front of her, putting out his hand.

She smiled softly at the slow song that was starting, and took his hand as the room dimmed, the snowflakes charmed to fall over the dance floor illuminated by the candle light.

Giada!

It had taken most, if not all of his energy through the last couple of weeks to try and pretend everything was going to be alright. He had been the one to be optimistic about what was going to happen, telling Giada that they were going to let them know what was happening as soon as possible, and that they shouldn’t worry in case this was all one big understanding…though secretly, he was freaking out about what they were going to do, if it wasn’t.

And of course it wasn’t. Of course they had to send them that owl, delivering even more bad news to their doorstep right before the New Year. Perhaps it was good that they sent it now, so 1981 didn’t start out as miserable as 1980 had ended. Still, the news hit both of them hard, but Giada even harder because of what had just recently happened with Euan. This was really the first day after they had received the news, and because Giada was the brides maid, he had hardly seen her all day.

He made sure to get through the crowd as quickly and painlessly as he could, all the while trying to get to his wife, who looked absolutely stunning despite her miserable disposition. When he finally got to her, he bowed down slightly, extending his hand to her. “Dance with me?” As he finished asking, the setting of the room changed, and he took her hand within his own, planting a kiss on her knuckles once she was walking beside him out onto the dance floor. He gave her a twirl once they were with the rest of the couples, and then pulled her towards him, his other hand wrapping around her waist to hold her close as they danced to the soft music being played by the band.

“…I don’t tell you how beautiful you are nearly as much as I should…”

The ceremony had been exquisite. Kingsley was impressed with how lavish a wedding could be. The reception was also most admirably pleasant. With a full stomach, he raised his glass to the newly married couple with a polite nod.

After taking a sip, he sat the glass back to the table and swallowed. Smiling at the rest of those at their table, he put a hand to his date's knee.

"Are you enjoying yourself?" he asked quietly as he leaned toward her.

It was probably not the most prudent thing in the world, to be glaring daggers at the bride during the wedding because you hero-worshipped the groom, all the while sitting with a date that you had asked, and found yourself perfectly smitten with. And yet, this was Greta Catchlove's predicament, as she was enjoying what was otherwise a spectacular evening with Kingsley. True, Gabriel Corner had always been unattainable, though she fancied him terribly at one point, but there were moments! There had certainly been moments. And he had already been with Mary MacDonald, surely this meant Gryffindors were to his taste! Not to mention all those disasters they'd weathered through together in the Prophet offices. If he found all of these moments to be meaningless, that was fine—but then he had to go and marry some snotty Pureblooded bitch who was most undeserving of him, and that was just too much!

Realizing how awful and silly and childlike that attitude was, however, she tried her best to squash it, and turned the full wattage of her smile on her date, laying a hand over his. Kingsley got her silly to an absurd degree, however, with his voice, his calm manner, and how, no matter how ruffled her feathers might get, he was exactly the opposite. There was no need to get sillier over a crush on a now-taken man. "I am! I love weddings, even if they are a bit," her eyes fell on the miniature fireworks display over the center of the table, "lavish. Oh, what about you? Thanks, for coming with me! I hate these things when I'm by myself."

Erin fidgeted nervously in her seat, wringing her fingers. Okay, so...before Rocco was born, Erin was totally fine with her sister or parents babysitting Milo. That was fine! They'd done it a million times before, for Deidra and Matt, they knew how to take care of this child. But--it felt like all of that had been erased since September. No one knew how to take care of her boys like she and Rafe did (and sometimes she questioned her husband!), so this night was---hard to handle!

"I think I'm going to floo call my mum and see how the boys are," she said with a decisive nod toward her husband, standing and reaching for her purse. But--no, she shouldn't. It was New Year's Eve! They should be celebrating! Erin sat back down with a shake of her head, muttering a 'never mind!' before she realized she had not packed Milo's special blanket, and shot to her feet again.

"His blankie!"

Rafe watched his wife stand up and then sit down and then stand up, again. Oy! She was being a nervous ninny. Of course, he was concerned about their sons well-being. Of course, he intended to check in on them. But he did have the peace of mind to not act like a complete nutter. And he thought that his friends would be the ones he'd be wrestling back into seats, tonight.

"Calm down," Rafe said in a gentle, deep tone as he caught her hand. He calmly looked up to her, and he gave her a little tug toward her seat. "They'll be fine -- blankie or no blankie."

Bess, Darling :-*

Chester always enjoyed weddings. The joy and happiness. It was almost as if you could feel the love in the air. And the ceremony was so beautiful. He almost shed a tear.

And if you honestly believed any of that, he would gladly put you out of your misery. Chester liked weddings because there was typically free alcohol. And at this particular wedding he got to watch Bess in a rather fantastic low cut ensemble. Chester took a long pull of his gin and tonic as he watched her from across the room.

She was with that same guy from the Halloween gala. Two events together. This did not sit well with Chester at all. Who did that fucker think he was anyways. So the second he left her side (which took forever, as he hovered by her the entire night so far. Possessive much.) he downed his drink and made his way over to Bess.

He slipped his arm around her waist spinning her around and pulling her close to him, careful not to give her enough room to break his grasp "I must say that you look absolutely breathtaking this evening." he whispered in her ear as he started to sway to the song that had just started to play.

"Ah ah ah" he admonished the second Bess opened her mouth. "Let's not make a scene and ruin this lovely evening for the Bride and Groom. You left quite a mess for me at the cafe last week, and I'd hate for a repeat." A lazy smirk played on his lips as he spun her out before bringing her back with a slight bit more force than necessary, still to an onlooker it would just seem as if they were dancing just like every other couple.

"So tell me, who is it that you're with this evening. It's not the first time I've seen you with him." Chester asked bringing his face intimately close to hers. "Is this something I need to take care of? I'd hate it if he were bothering you."

The past week had been amazing. Bess could not describe how perfectly she felt in Drystan's arms, even though she refused to tell him so. No, she fully enjoyed the silent understanding they seemed to have, and will keep her thoughts of how absolutely fantastic she felt when she was with him. Her sister didn't know how their relationship had escalated (again, and again, and again), nor did her brother, whom Bess told everything, and certainly not Dexter or any of her other friends. Bess enjoyed having this all to themselves, and hoped it lasted for some time.

Except of course Chester lived to ruin her life.

She'd smiled at the arm around her waist before she was turned and saw that it was Chester. Bess sucked in a deep breath and felt her heart begin to shake inside her chest. Her horrified expression didn't leave her as he began to sway and move and---she couldn't breath. Bess had not been this close to Chester since...the painful memories from the day of Sadie's kidnapping quickly resurfaced. The poor memory charm he'd thrown on her, all it did was intensify the terrible memories and Bess felt tears strike her eyes immediately.

"You need to---stop," she forced out, shivering in near terror as Chester pulled and grew even closer. Oh God she could feel him on every inch of her body. Bess struggled to pull away, but all it did was make her feel him even more; she could pass out right now, from the way her heart was ready to explode. "Please," she said, knowing she'd hate herself later for it.

Watching one of his best friends get married was something he hadn't imagined happening until they were older. Sometimes he forgot how much was expected from all of them at their age, depending on their families and their status. Gabriel and Donovan were in the same boat, where families arranged their marriages if they didn't find a proper suitor. It was rare, for pureblood relationships to form because they were actually in love with their spouse. He liked Rachel, and she seemed to tolerate all of Gabriel's friends, so he was happy for him. It looked like things would work out well, for the two of them.

He could only hoped that he and Cecilia would be able to least stand to be around each other. They would be spending a lot of time in each others company, so that would make things a lot easier, for the both of them.

Walking through the crowd, Donovan shot a broad smile at his newly wed friend, raising the glass of champagne that was in his hand towards him, as though saying 'cheers!' from across the room. Turning back around, he sipped down the last of his drink, placing it on tray that the waiter was holding. His eyes scanned the crowd, seeing all the couples who were sitting around the tables. Everyone was paired off with someone...except for him.

And her.

His eyes focused on the girl at the bar, his head tilting to the side curiously as he took in her appearance. She was wearing black...and didn't have a date. Putting the clues together, Donovan slowly stepped over towards her, leaning against the bar beside her. The tender looked to him for his order. "Two glasses of champagne." He smirked as a thanks as the man went off to pour them. When he was gone, and it was just the two of them again, he turned towards her. "...Cecilia Hooke, if I'm not mistaken?" When she acknowledged the name, he gave her a small smile. "I would have felt like quite a fool if I hadn't guessed correctly." He straightened up. "Donovan Rookwood. It's a pleasure to finally meet you."

To say that she had been avoiding meeting up with her intended date would have been a lie. Cecilia wasn't avoiding the situation... she was just choosing to not actively search it out. So instead of wandering around the room for the past half hour asking which of the handsomely dressed men was Donovan Rookwood (aside from the fact that, being that he was a groomsmen, she already knew what he looked like from the view during the ceremony), she had instead chosen to lean casually against the bar and wait for the situation to come to her.

A few weeks ago, she would have found it disturbing how... indifferent she felt about what was happening in her life. A few weeks ago, she had been an inconsolable mess, grieving the sudden death of the man she loved--the man that she had actually seen herself marrying, having children with... well, whenever he finally gave in. Now she was faced with a completely different man, one that her parents envisioned her doing those things with, and how did she feel? Cecilia really didn't know.

She wasn't happy, for certain. Evan's death had blown a gaping hole in her heart and she couldn't see herself being happy again anytime soon--if ever, as dramatic as that sounded. But she wasn't upset, either. Sure, she had cried herself to sleep the night her parents had broken the news of her new suitor to her, but after the intial heartbreak, she had begun to think rationally again and. Yes, she may have hated that she had to do this, but it was for her own good. And the sooner the better. Cecilia could not detest anything that might possibly take her mind off of Evan Rosier right now.

So she smiled when he greeted her. And, swallowing the knot in her throat that threatened to bring her to tears at the sight of him and all of the lost dreams he represented, Cecilia took a very long drink of her champagne and put on a hopefully pleasant, bubbly tone. "Mr. Rookwood. I'm relieved that you found me alright. It's a pleasure to meet you as well... I must say, you look far handsomer up close."

Sebastian!
[info]macks
2009-12-31 09:07 pm UTC (link)
Mackenzie felt absolutely no guilt for slipping out of the reception with Sebastian so soon after dinner had ended and dancing had begun. In fact, if Rachel found out and was the slightest bit peeved, she was just going to have to deal with it. Yes! Deal with it because Mackenzie had never felt this happy since... she couldn't remember when, and as much as she loved her friend and understood the other woman's deepest desire for perfection, it just wasn't going to happen tonight concerning Sebastian and Mackenzie Goldstein. They had found a nice side corridor that was secluded away, and weren't making out in the middle of the party, and that was the best they could do.

Besides, it was New Year's Eve! Was she not allowed to ring in the new year with a snog from her husband? The fact that they still had a good while until midnight was a minor detail at this point; it didn't matter. Like many of their previous problems, they too no longer mattered and had washed away with their impromptu 'vacation'.

Vacation, travel... hiding excursion, it didn't matter. They were both happy for once, and no person was going to change Mackenzie's mood anytime fast. Not her family, Matilda, or anyone else that was present tonight who had previously plagued her with worry and doubt. Nope, not anymore. As upsetting as it was, Evan's death had forced Mackenzie to realize that her past, and the people concerning it, was ruining her future with Sebastian.

Maybe all the almost dying, having your family almost fall apart and having to go into hiding made you realize important things like that. Mackenzie just wished she hadn't been so stubborn and grasped all this sooner.

But none of that now. Anthony was home safe with his grandparents, no one had yet to bother them, and Sebastian was tickling her. A wide smile easily made its way onto her face as her nose began to scrunch funnily. Despite Mackenzie's best efforts, she could not hold back her laughter and had to pull her lips off his.

"Not fair!" she laughed, trying to reach for his hand. Whether it was on purpose, or by accident, she really couldn't care.

His grin widened, stretching from ear to ear. Sebastian's grip around Mackenzie's waist and the way he was attempting to tower over made it look like they were performing some strange dance where he dipped her and she wriggled and laughed uncontrollably. Best dance ever, it would be dubbed, of course.

Attending the Hanukkah festivities in Israel had been one of the top ten experiences of his life. Sebastian had always wanted to go, and with their sudden need for a quick, quiet getaway, he couldn't think of a better time to go. They'd missed the first two days, but everyone, everywhere they went, was more than happy to catch them up with the celebrations. See, this is why being Jewish was awesome---more than a week of fun and excitement, for everyone! It had been the best way to celebrate Anthony's first Hanukkah too, even though his son stared at him like he was a complete nut job when the dancing and singing bits came along.

"Not fair!" Sebastian let out in fake-surprise, "All's fair!" His hands skittered up her back and within a moment he had a very good hold on Mackenzie, his body pressing them into the wall. Sebastian took in a deep breath and his eyes almost crossed as he stared down at his wife, his grin never fading. Merlin, he was the luckiest man on the planet.

"You look ravishing, if you could not tell, Mrs. Goldstein."

Apparently, people brought friends of friends to weddings as dates all the time. Or at least, that was what Patrick had vehemently convinced Edward a week ago. But now as he looked around at the wedding, it seemed like everyone was accompanied by people that they previously knew. Most of those people were married couples, however, so he wasn't exactly sure if that argument counted as a valid one. He didn't know! In reality, he should just be happy that he had found a date at all. The ramifications of showing up to Rachel's wedding without a guest to fill the guest seat next to him could have been deadly.

But why it was so important to have a date was beyond him. Wasn't the whole point of inviting him, Edward, was to have him present at their wedding? Why would Rachel and Gabriel want a random stranger eating their food and watching their marriage process begin? Of course, voicing these thoughts would be just as deadly as showing up alone, so Edward kept silent, not even daring to bring up these thoughts with Giada.

His encouraged, and recommended, date was April Anderson, one of Patrick's many friends that Patrick himself had introduced to Edward. He had never met her before, or actually heard of her, but that was the case with most people. The tendency to not know people was one of Edward's cripples.

As was avoiding awkward silences and conversations. He looked over at April briefly in the chair next to him, ready to try again at a fluid conversation. The fact that he was an editor, and should know how to converse smoothly purely on the fact that he made fictional characters do so did not help him at all. Ever.

"Would you like-- anything?"

While crossing her long legs at the knee, April took a good look around the room. It wasn’t too often that she was called to go to an event hosted by the wizarding world, but it did happen from time to time. Her address was available for owl post, but it still freaked her out a little to see an owl swooping down at her window in the middle of the afternoon, only because it was the last thing she expected. She should have been used to it, growing up with a mother who was a witch, but the phone had always been her primary form of communication. Lonely wizards who knew how to use a phone would call her up, and ask her to meet them somewhere local, since there was no way for her to apparate or anything like that.

A few days ago, she had received an owl from a wizard named Patrick. He wrote to her asking if she could attend a wedding as a guest for one of his good friends, Edward. This was another rarity, to be asked to go somewhere so formal. It was a nice change of pace, though. So, she agreed.

Getting into something that was appropriate enough for a wedding (or, she really hoped it was…), she took her car over to the Ministry of Magic, a place she hadn’t been in quite some time. From there, she flooed her way over to the reception, and waited patiently for Edward to find her. She was glad to see that he wasn’t some creepy old man, but a young, handsome wizard. Always a plus.

The wedding itself was beautiful, and though she didn’t know anyone there, she still enjoyed it. The reception turned out to be just as spectacular, but she was sure it would have been more enjoyable if her date was actually speaking to her. When she did finally hear his voice, she turned to look over at him, giving him a large smile. “Anything?” She placed a finger to her lips. “Hmm…so many possibilities…” She tapped at her chin, looking to think it over before she turned back to him. “Maybe a glass of champagne would be nice. This is a wedding on New Years Eve, after all. Not having champagne would be a crime or something.” She smiled at him again, and then leaned towards him. “I recommend getting one for yourself as well. You seem a little tense.”

Maggie had been watching Drystan out of the corner of her eye the entire night, mostly because she'd seen him with a woman, and was determined to be the first to find out about whatever fling he was having. Oh, she'd have so much fun dangling it over Odette's head for...oh, five minutes, before she spilled. It would be great, and fantastic, and she would even go over there and introduce herself if she wasn't feeling like absolute shit.

She was really tired of all the past men in her life getting hooked and married. What was that about? Rafe, Jonas, really? At least Rafe's wife was his age, Jonas' was a child. What sense did that make? Who really wanted to get married nowadays, anyway? It seemed like as soon as you left Hogwarts, you needed to get hitched, and that made absolutely no sense to Magnolia. She enjoyed her freedom, thank you very much.

Sigh. She'd already lost Odette as free bird single woman, and had to rely on taking some randoms out with her, or trying to drag Bertha out of her constantly depressed state. Maggie did not have the patience for moping, sorry, so it was proving rather difficult to have a good time.

She was slumped in her seat because she was frustrated that Drystan hadn't bothered to seek her out, and now she decided that she would not approach him first. No, he should be a fucking gentleman and say hello, she was his teammate for fuck's---

"Excuse me!" Maggie squeaked, pulling up her foot as a scowl of pain crossed her face. These were expensive shoes, she didn't need some idiot stepping on her toes! "Amble along, now!"

Of course he stepped on her toes after carefully making his way over here so he wouldn't bump into anyone else. To be fair, it wasn't exactly his fault - he'd gotten pushed by someone else - but still.

He almost hadn't come over to see her. After all, he was much older than her and now he was extremely unattractive. Yes, in the past week or so he'd managed to get himself blasted with a batch of defective floo powder. Apparently because of his 'age', they hadn't been able to repair his vision to full and he was stuck with the glasses forever.

Merlin, as if he didn't look ancient enough as it was. Totally not having a midlife crisis.

"I'm sorry!" He half-squeaked, sorely tempted to turn around before she could recognize him.

How embarrassing.

Tonight he had decided that one of two things was going to happen:

1) He was going to get too plastered to see and then end up coming off as a really horrible father to Amissa and then Rachel would probably get custody of her and he'd have to ram his face repeatedly into a wall;

2) He was going to bring a pretty lady home and shamefully use the 'woe is me, the mother of my child is getting married and I am still a lowly bachelor' stint on a pretty girl.

Since the latter wouldn't result in potential time in Azkaban and his mother being right about him, Bertram had opted (reluctantly) to restrict himself to one rum and coke. He was polishing off the last of it when he spotted a rather ... fetching young blonde in the corner. He was sure he recognized her from ... school, maybe?

Sure, he'd go with that. Adjusting his tie (Merlin, did he hate things tight around his neck any time other than during sex), he sauntered over to Winnie and gave her a sly grin.

"So, is that a wand in your pocket ... or are you just happy to see me?" He paused. "Because seriously, if it's not a wand ... I can just keep walking."

Of course Winnifred Llewellyn was thrilled to be at a wedding! What self-respecting Pureblood girl of impeccable looks and fortune was not thrilled at the prospect of attending a lavish party? The fact that it was the marriage of her best friend's brother, whom she had always believed to fancy her greatly, and who would eventually propose once she came out properly to society as a young lady of said impeccable looks and fortune, and whom, after making him wait for an answer for an appropriate length of time, she would consent to, thus cementing the sisterhood between herself and Rebecca forever, was only a small damper on her excitement.

And the fact that the said best friend was in a dreadful mood because her ridiculously neurotic Half-blood paramour had suddenly died, despite the fact that this was now a window of opportunity for her to find a Pureblood of good social standing and wealth to marry, without having to fret about breaking the Healer's heart, was simply irrelevant! Winnie was having a wonderful time.

All right, Winnifred Llewellyn was not having a wonderful time. The whole day was awful, to be perfectly honest, and sitting in the corner, trying her best not to openly sulk, so as to potentially still attract the attentions of a respectable wizard. Which Bertram Aubrey most certainly was not. Even if he was stupidly handsome, with that devil-may-care attitude. And not even his colorful remarks could bring a smile to the tiny blonde's face.

"Rebecca is much more forgiving of your uncouth behavior than I am," she said in a glumly matter-of-fact way. "Although I wouldn't dare try it with her today, she's in a temper."

Amery was not particularly close to Gabriel, as the boy was only directly related to Adrian, nor was he more than briefly acquainted with the bride, but he found himself sitting through an extraordinarily lavish evening at the reception regardless. An event where one Wilkes was in attendance, all were in attendance. Much to his displeasure. Not that he found his family any less endearing than he had for the past twenty-nine years, but being that his recent hobbies had included passing vital information to the Dark Lord to the now deceased Minister of Magic, it was, perhaps, in the best interests of all that he keep to himself.

At the moment, Amery was pulling black gloves back onto his freshly-scrubbed, pink hands, after leaving the washroom, eying the thick, piling snow desperately clinging to the bottom of his robes with distaste. An approaching figure caught his attention, however, and it was with a small amount of surprise that he recognized the silhouette.

"Brother," he greeted curtly.

Grayson Wilkes may not have been extremely gifted with figuring out what to say in any given situation, especially when it came to expressing feelings ... but that didn't mean he wasn't perceptive.

No, he could certainly tell when something changed about someone he was close to and Amery was no exception. He'd been acting strangely lately, and there had been rumors that had prompted Grayson to bring with him tonight a special tool. He'd waited for ages in order to catch Amery without a large crowd of people around, but he was pleased he'd waited.

The public was not the place to have this conversation. "Amery," he greeted in return. "We need to have a disccusion. Now." Although he was the younger of them, he liked to think his voice was sufficiently demanding.

Kalista

Augustus did not particularly like attending weddings, he would rather be at home or doing something related to work, but since he was now betrothed and it was his duty to escort her to events like these. Plus, it would help cement their position in society among the weddings that would be happening this season and perhaps it would be reciprocated. That didn't mean he was enjoying himself terribly much, there were quite a lot of people here, not all of them were the kind he would willingly socialize with.

But he was here, being with Kalista. He did enjoy dressing up and showing off his wealth - not too ostentatiously, but enough to show the others that he was certainly better than them. He touched Kalista's hand lightly as he tried to get her attention and handed her a cup, "Here you are Miss Rosier."

Normally, Kalista enjoyed weddings. It was another opportunity for her to socialize and mingle…but now, it was a lot different. Now, she was getting strange looks from certain guests who knew who she was. Not that she should care what they thought of her, since it would only please them to see her all riled up, but…it wasn’t because of what she had done, that they were all staring at her. She was the sister of the man who had killed the minister…the man who had died fighting for a cause that he believed in. Not everyone believed in that cause, and thought of Evan as nothing more than a murderer…not a brother, a lover, or a son.

Lost in her own thoughts, Kalista hadn’t even noticed Augustus walk over to her. Feeling someone touch her hand caused her to quickly take in a breath, snapping her back to reality as her eyes darted over to see who it was. She gave him a pathetic, tight lipped smile, extending her hand to grab the glass he was extending towards her. “Thank you.” She looked down at the drink before turning her eyes back up to him, gently clearing her throat. “It was a lovely ceremony.” She said with another horrible excuse for a smile, trying to make small talk as she sipped at her drink. Her relationship with Augustus had gotten much better than it had been before, but…things were still a little rocky. It was hard to focus on building a relationship when the ones she already had kept falling apart.

Malcolm loved weddings. He really loved parties and everything, and even though his date was currently in a mood (not that anyone could have blamed him), Malcolm was loving this wedding. It was just lavish and pretty enough for Malcolm to be completely besotted with the decor, but it was completely tasteful and also Malcolm was getting to enjoy himself being Mortimer's date. It wasn't their first date or anything, but it was their first lovely public debut. Malcolm was playing the dutiful boyfriend and schmoozing just a little. He was playing just a little hands off, despite his want to hold his hand and comfort him.

Being with his boyfriend and getting to meet his friends was really nice. It made him feel a little more accepted into Morty's life. He returned to the table with two champagne flutes and set them both down on the table and offered his hand to Morty, "Care to dance? I think you and I should dance. We'll blow everyone away."
