What was happening here, exactly? Mackenzie nervously brushed her hair down, letting her hands comb through it as she sought to ease herself. One minute, she was flipping through her journal while waiting for Anthony to wake up from his nap, and then next! The next Evan openly admits to wanting to talk to her about something that seemed legitimately important. Important as in Caradoc Dearborn, the proclaimed traitor important. And being nostalgic. Evan Roiser. The man who prides himself in now showing any emotion whatsoever. Especially when it came to their departed year-mate, and society for that matter.

Blinking quickly, Mackenzie pushed all depressive thoughts out of her head to calm herself. What Evan was so moved about could not be good, most definitely. And to add onto that, Sebastian would be so furious if he came home to see Evan in the house, let alone discussing anything outside of the weather. But--- this seemed to be important. Very important. If there was something maybe she could help with...

But that kind of thought was what got her in trouble last time, was it not? Mackenzie had promised to herself that she would stop with everything concerning her school friends, but, this seemed different. It didn't occur to her how much she was actually risking by talking to Evan; of course keeping her marriage from becoming frail again was of the highest importance, yet at the same time, this was Evan. She would not turn him away even if she tried.

Mackenzie just prayed Sebastian would come home after Evan left. Or that her talent for distraction him would be enough to give Evan time to leave without any notice.

Oh Merlin, that sounded horrible.

Rushing to the door at the sound of a knock, Mackenzie didn't wait a second before opening it. At the sight of Evan, her heart dropped. He looked right-out awful.

There was always a reason why Evan always distanced himself from people. One of the main reasons was that he didn’t think it was wise to become too close with someone, because things always change, and trust is broken…so it wasn’t any surprise that he took it extremely hard when one of the people he trusted the most turned out to be someone he loathed in the end. He was better off just…not saying a damn word about him; he shouldn’t have foolishly insinuated that he had actually been thinking about the son of a bitch.

Apparating to the house that Mackenzie shared with her mudblood husband, Evan stood outside momentarily, his eyes lifting up to take in the sight of her house. It was such a shack, compared to what she could have had. Evan had never understood what she saw in him, since he only saw filth…but he made Mackenzie happy. How, he didn’t know, but he did.

Letting out a long sigh, Evan climbed the steps to her front door, hesitating before raising a hand to collide with the wood. Afterwards, his hands slid into his pockets, remaining this way even after the door was opened. Lifting his eyes, they took in her expression. “…it’s good to see you, Mackenzie.”

"Evan---" Her mouth twitched slightly as her face contorted, but Mackenzie refrained from making any other visible signs of worry or unease in front of Evan.

As she ushered him inside, a very familiar sick feeling in her stomach returned, begging the question yet again as to what exactly she was doing here, and just how sane she actually was. But-- Mackenzie struggled with her next thought, unable to even fully comprehend. It was Evan, he would do anything for her, and she likewise. It would be impossible to simply turn him away, especially with Sebastian not there to keep her in check.

This could all be about absolutely nothing. Evan could just want advice about how to handle his sister's impending nuptials. Highly unlikely, however, but possible.

Sebastian would just never have to find out. Just for this one time. He didn't understand. No, Sebastian could never understand the unique relationship she and her housemates had formed over all those years, and she didn't think he ever would. Not that he wasn't smart enough, or understanding enough, but simply because half the time even Mackenzie didn't really understand it. By all normal standards, she should have been excommunicated years ago, yet it was only until this year had everything begun to fall apart. What did that say?

Mackenzie pulled her lips together tightly, pulling out the spiraling mind vortex she was putting herself in. Sebastian meant more to hear than she could ever begin to describe, but that did not mean she could completely ignore one of the few people left she actually trusted. Reaching out for Evan, she pulled him into a tight embrace, ignoring the fact that she knew how much he despised hugs.

The sound of his own name spoken through a familiar voice wasn’t what caused him to look away from her again; it was the face she had made as soon as she opened the door. For someone who supposedly didn’t care about other people, he found himself hating himself more and more every time he caused certain people to make that face. He didn’t want people worrying about him, but more importantly he didn’t want Mackenzie worrying about him. It had always been strange, how much he always seemed to want to protect her, even though she was hardly the damsel in distress sort of girl. She could take care of herself, but…for some reason, Evan treated her like a fox among a pack of wolves. The others were sure to tear her apart before Evan would even bark at her.

Stepping into the house, he let his eyes scan the entrance way that was more familiar to him than he cared to admit. If things were different, he probably would have requested they meet at another location…but he was a little strapped for time. If he didn’t see her now, he wasn’t sure when he would get another chance, so he leapt at the opportunity, even though he could practically sense how afraid Mackenzie was to have him in her home. It didn’t make him upset with her, but with her husband, since he knew he was the reason why she was so on edge.

As she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, he froze in place momentarily. He debated about whether or not he should hug her back. Part of him really wanted to, but the other half didn’t want to set up any more red flags with her than he already had. If he took her in his arms like he wanted to, she’d know something wasn’t right; not that she didn’t already, but he was trying to act like everything was normal. He momentarily shut his eyes as he internally contemplated his next move before lifting up his hands to rest on her waist as he leaned back, looking into her eyes before lifting a hand to brush some hair from her face.

“…you usually only do that when you think something’s wrong.”

There was something wrong; the severity of it was lost to her, but there was definitely something off. Mackenzie hadn't spent half her life intently watching people for nothing. She was excellent in detecting other's moods, hence why she had gotten such a less-than-nasty reputation in school like other people she knew. It was very hard to just ignore a person crying out for help, whether it from helping terminate a mental break down or something so simple as giving directions to a lost first year. Call her too empathetic, but she had never been able to help it.

For a brief moment, Mackenzie contemplated holding her tongue. Did she really want to hear whatever Evan was willing to divulge? What if it was--- no, no, no matter how dire it was, she was very certain Evan would never tell her certain things. So that could only lead her to believe that, perhaps, he was struggling with something internally? Again, unlikely; Evan was hardly the one to seem to struggle with anything in life.

"Am I not allowed to express how I feel?" she sighed, her arms dropping back away to her sides. "You worry me." Regardless of what he did or didn't want her to see, Mackenzie knew Evan too well, and he vise versa, so for either of them to hide much without the other knowing was difficult to achieve. Choosing to ignore what they saw was a whole other subject entirely.

"You look not right," Mackenzie said, her lips pulling back. "Do not dismiss my concern with lies."

Why was he not surprised by how she responded to his observation? He let out a sigh of his own as she said what he knew she was thinking; ‘you worry me’. He always had, for some reason or another. She always seemed to think he was up to something, or that something was up with him…and while she was usually right, he never let her in on anything. He never wanted her to worry any more than she already did, and he never wanted to see that look of disappointment on her face whenever she knew he had done something wrong. He didn’t know what it was, but those big brown eyes of hers had an effect on him that even he couldn’t explain. Mackenzie was just…pure, and it was one of the things he admired about her and usually loathed about everyone else. Anyone who was that good usually got on his nerves, but she was his vice. She was his weakness; or she was one on a very short list, at least.

Her observation made his brow quirk upwards ever so slightly. Was it really that obvious that something was up? He was usually pretty good about keeping his emotions at bay, something that bothered his female housemates to no end (well…females in general), but there were definitely times when that wall that was up around him cracked and crumbled, exposing the fact that he really was just a man, and not some cold and heartless thing. Different people saw him as different things, and he had never been able to truly understand what Mackenzie saw him as. She was different than anyone he had ever associated himself with, so he could only imagine the things she saw in him. Sometimes it worried him…but at other times, it was refreshing to feel human for a while, even though that was what usually got him into the most amount of trouble.

“I just have a lot on my mind.” It wasn’t exactly a lie…but it was too vague to be of any use to her. Before she had a chance to ask him to go further into detail about everything, he continued on. “You could try and get me to delve further into that topic of conversation, but we both know what the outcome of that situation would be. I came here to talk to you, but some things are just…better left unsaid.” Whether it was for his sake or her sake, it didn’t matter. He wasn’t going to talk about what was really eating away at him, no matter how hard she pushed.

[OOC: OMG I HAVEN'T HAD ANY FREE TIME TO TAG, AUGH!]
