WHO: Gideon and Fabian Prewett
WHAT: think of the CHILDREN
WHERE: Kings Cross, Tuesday September 1.
STATUS: Uninished Log (fabian part added in comments.
NOTES: This (and their life sorta) to the tune of: Warboys;

Gideon's heart almost leaped out of his chest as they rounded the corner headed back toward platform 9 and 3/4s. He and Fabian had only been patrolling Kings Cross or a few hours and nothing out of the ordinary had happened - they'd managed to help a few lost first years and their families make it onto the platform, not as many muggles around as Gideon had been expecting, but the less trouble there was with everything, the better everything would go. Gideon's mind had been back in Scotland with Gleny, because everything had been going so smoothly.

Until they'd heard screaming through the listening spells they'd set up when they first arrived before their patrol. Gideon had taken off running, pulling in front of Fabian but trusting and knowing that his brother would be there behind him. There were many reasons he liked to be paired up with his brother (even though Moody had severely warned against fighting with someone that could be used as leverage like a family member) mostly, because he knew that could depend on the other man and trusted him to back him up.

With is wand out at the ready, Gideon pushed through the barrier and looked around, keenly observing anything that seemed out of place. There was a frantic waving from some of the students from the train - the platform was completely clear and he checked his watch, 10:04. The train should have left already. Looking over his shoulder at his brother, Gideon made a motion that he was going to check the train, for Fabian to stay and guard it from the outside.

"I'll be right back," he told his brother before entering the train. Gideon shushed some of the students who had poked their heads out of the compartments, "Quiet, stay quiet and have your wands at the ready, protect the younger students," he told them as he made his way to the front of the train to find the driver. They needed to get the train moving, if there was even a driver anymore. Gideon wouldn't put it past a Death Eater to attack the train like this - he was mentally berating himself for not thinking of having more of the Order here on the platform as a contingency plan.

Once he found the driver getting the man to restart the train was easy - the screaming had made him stop and talking him back into getting it going took a little finesse and charm but once it was started again, Gideon knew the first priority was to get all of the students out of the station and fast, so he had to get off the train now. He ran to the end of the train and hopped off as it started pulling away. He took a breath and grinned at his brother in triumph - before realizing there was nothing to smile about. As the train pulled away, the shadows on the platform seemed to melt away and the brothers were staring at five ugly masked Death Eaters approaching them with their wands out.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with his older brother, Gideon tightened his grip on his wand and grabbed his brother's wrist and squeezed. His heart was hammering in his throat, but there was nothing to back down from now. They were freedom fighters and killing Death Eaters were just what you did. Pushing away the terror and unwanted thoughts (about Gleny, Tristan, Molly, the nephews) Gideon summoned up the hate and anger that he'd felt for the men that had attacked his home and made him believe his family was dead; it would be the fuel to finish this fight.

"Alright then, Bean?" Gideon asked his brother gruffly, nodding slightly as the first spell came their way.

Keeping his eyes focused on the Death Eaters who were closing in on them, he too thought about everyone he cared about, everyone he loved, and his grip around his wand tightened. This was it…this was what they joined the order to do, because they wanted to make a difference. They were part of a war, and it would have been ridiculous for him to expect there to be no casualties…and it would be equally ridiculous to not even have thought about how he could be one of them. He had been preparing himself for the worst case scenario ever since the Order had been formed…but it was never so real before now.

The question that came from his brother warranted a smirk, not because he was happy…but because he was thinking about how fantastic it was going to be when these Death Eaters were eliminated. Even if it wasn’t by their hands, knowing that the other Order members would be able to do what they could not was…comforting, in some ways. It made him remember what it really meant to be an Order member…and if that meant dying for something he believed in, something that was going to make the world a better place…than maybe it was supposed to happen. Maybe this was his time…and maybe it would all work out in the end.

I’m sorry I didn’t keep my promise, Bess…

“Let’s do this, Princess.”
