Jolene smiled and looked down at the noticeable swell that was starting to push against the fabric of her dress. With rosey, full cheeks and an unmistakeable mother's glow, Jolene was every bit the expectant mommy-to-be. One of the older witches in the office had stopped her in the midst of running an error to make comment on the baby bump, and it was there that she felt it. The rumbling, roaring sound of furniture rattling across the floor followed shortly by an outbreak of sheer panic.
Always a bit slow on the uptake, Jolene was left standing there, clutching a manilla envelope protectively over her abdomen as the uproar erupted around her. She didn't have the best of balance on her better days, and so when the earthquake started it was not long before she was left struggling to remain upright.
Blinking ceiling plaster from her eyes as it snowed around her, she threw an arm up to shield her head from any falling debris and teetered off-kilter, falling to the side. The crack of her head against a nearby desk ensured that her body hit the floor without much resistance, her stomach absorbing some of the impact. Even through the pain and disorientation, her arms moved to encircle her belly, a quiet moan of panic tumbling from her lips.
