Okay--- okay. There was nothing wrong with this picture. There was nothing wrong with the fact that it looked like Amery and Grayson had just tried to kill a manticore, and lost terribly. There was nothing wrong with that creepy smile Grayson was sending her. And there was definitely nothing wrong with the fact that Amery was basically dead on the ground already. Nope, not at all. And there definitely wasn't anything awkward about this at all, because they were a loving, close family. As many times as Mackenzie said that over, and over in her head, she couldn't seem to believe an ounce of it. There was so much blood; could she get away with not asking what really happened? Even if it was totally wrong, she was going to try to anyway.
She snapped back awake with a blink, stepping quickly over to Amery. Mackenzie could hardly remember the last thing they had said to each other, but no doubt it had been unpleasant. Either way, she knew it would be easier to heal him than Grayson; she had a vague lasting memory of how he did, and probably still felt about her.
"Lay down," she started quietly, hands shaking. Just as long as he stayed awake, everything would be fine. Quickly, Mackenzie got to work, wand moving this way and that over his body.
