Dex
"All you've got to do is laugh at her jokes and like...talk!"

Peter repated this to himself in his best mocking 'James Potter' voice, pacing around his apartment as he ran his hands back and forth through his hair, trying to get himself to calm down enough. He had already ordered the food he would be taking to Dexter's place, and he was jsut waiting it to get to him before he coukld bring it to her. He had ordered Italian food, being that it was the first menu he had picked up, but because he didn't know what she liked, he had basically ordered pasta of different sorts with almost every sauce that was available. Alfredo, Vodka Sauce, Tomato, Marinara, etc. She said she was good with basically everything, but he just wasn't sure, so he wanted to be safe.

"Maybe I should just tell her I'm sick...like, I just came down with a sudden virus...aaah, no then they wouldn't ever let me live it down, and then I'd feel bad and I'd probably wind up running into her all the time, and-"

Oh, Peter was SO glad that there was a knock on the door, because he probably would have kept talking to himself. It wasn't like he always walked around having full conversations with well, him, but he did when he was nervous. And damn it, right now he was nervous.

Opening the door, he took the many many bags that the man had brought and paid him before he brought everything inside, taking out the food. He charmed one bag so it would hold everything, and made it weigh less so he could lift it and not look like he was really really weak...and also, so the bag wouldn't break. Of course.

Peter swallowed before he ran into the bathroom, fixing his hair and his shirt before he grabbed his wand that was on the table, and the bag ( he was almost sure he was going to forget it at home ) before he apparated to the front of Dexter's building. Oh, it looked really big from where he was standing. Maybe it was just his imagination, like the building was something huge and intimidating because his situation right now was huge and intimidating. Maybe. Then again Peter wasn't a very tall or large guy, so it could just be his perspective. Anyway.

Stepping to the door, he paused for about 5 minutes before he got up the nerve to push the buzzer. The noise made his stomach twist, now even more nervous than he was before. Honestly, you'd think he would be braver than this, being a Gryffindor and all. But he just wasn't used to girls paying any attention to him. Being surrounded by Remus, James, and Sirius, kind of deflated a guys ego.

Hearing the door unlock, he froze, but then opened the door and climbed up to the second floor, fixing his hair once again, almost tripping up the last step because he wasn't paying attention. Brows furrowed as he looked behind him, as though something was there that had tripped him, but no. No there wasn't. He was just a clutz. He sighed and turned around, stepping towards Dexter's door, taking another few seconds that felt like hours just to raise his hand and knock on the door.

Here we go.

The buzz at the door reminded Dexter of why she had lost her place in the first place to get her journal. She wasn't completely sure that Peter was at all interested, he seemed like a really nice bloke, and there weren't many of those around, especially given his friends. Dexter found a dry quill and balanced it in the right place, to hold her spot and hoped it would stay that way. The book was huge, taking up most of the kitchen table. They would probably have to eat in the kitchen, which was fine. It had just been cleaned the other day, sort of. There were dishes in the sink, ew. Dexter flicked her wand at them and they set about cleaning themselves and she nodded to herself, waiting for Peter to knock on her door.

With a quick stop at the mirror to fix her bangs, Dexter bounced over to the door, grabbing one of the kneazles that sometimes lived there, to keep him from escaping and opened the door with a grin, "Hiya!" she said cheerfully, before eyeing the bag and raising her eyebrow. "That's a pretty big bag, did you loot a store?" she asked, stepping aside and closing the door behind him. She set the animal down and snickered as it slinked off, winding around Peter's feet before going away to sulk.

It was her brother's pet, he lived here too. Her flat was a cozy three bedroom with a kitchen-adjacent-living room and the third room used as a sort of study. It was just a room with a table covered in papers and books. In the flat itself, there were maps and charts plastered all over the walls, their telly telly, but it had been turned into a pet-cage stand – there was no use for it really. They had an owl each and some other nifty pets in cages on the telly. An experiment station was set up near the bay window behind the television, where there are a number of strange looking plants growing in different cups, pots and devices. Dexter waved for Peter to follow her in to the kitchen, since the table in the living room was taken up by a very large book.

"I'm glad you came!" Dex said, pulling a couple of plates down from the cabinet for them to eat off of.

Peter just stood there as Dexter started talking to him, blinking to bring himself back into reality when she mentioned the bag. "What? Oh, no, I just...it's just a lot. That I paid for, I didn't loot anything." He nervously cleared his throat and thanked her as he stepped into her place, rubbing at the back of his neck as she shut the door. He took another step forward so that she could get past him, thankful that he didn't step, or worse trip on the animal that was running around his feet.

His eyes scanned her apartment, taking in the small details, listening to the noises that it made. Well, not that it was making noise, but there were definetly living creatures there that were making...noise. Not a lot of noise, but he was just so used to his own very quiet place. It was just different. But it was a good different...and somehow, the animals made him feel just a little more comfortable about being there, because he wasn't technically alone with her. "Are you? I mean, not that you shouldn't be, but I just haven't really given you a reason to be glad to see me yet, since we've only seen eachother once before. Or, well, we've only talked once before, so..." Oh, he needed to shut up. He looked at the floor before he moved into the kitchen, gesturing to a counter. "Do you want me to just put this down here? Or is there somewhere else I should put it, just, you know, let me know."

"On the counter is good. I don't have much space with this new project, usually we eat on the table, but that book is on loan from the museum and I don't think food would be a good mix with it's fragile pages and you know, general book-ness," Dex nodded, getting some forks and serviettes out.

She leaned against the counter to watch him get out the food and shrugged in response to his question, "Haven't you ever just gotten a feeling about someone? Like you know them without having met them or whatever? Almost like you've been friends forever or something, not that that's what I feel, but it's a feeling similar to that. I just get you," Dex watched him carefully, hoping he didn't spill something on his clothes, because then he'd have to borrow one of her brother's shirts and Demetrius didn't really like people touching his neatly ordered clothes. "Do you not want to be here? I figured you have to eat too why not do it together?"

"Yeah, that makes sense." Peter felt himself smirk, which was...surprising, because he thought he would be way too nervous to do so. Normally he would have to force himself to smirk when a girl said something funny or cute, but he didn't have to with Dex. It just came naturally, on it's own. When he thought too much about this, he felt his courage fail, which was ironic. Should have have been happy that he was so...well, not comfortable, but he was able to smirk so it was something. It faded though as she mentioned how she 'got him'. But it wasn't because it upset him or anything, he was just...stunned.

He began to remove things from the bag, just to avoid eyecontact, but looked back to her when she spoke again, almost dropping a container of Penne a la Vodka, but much like the ink bottle the other day, he was able to catch it and place it on the counter. "No, it's not..it's not that at all, believe me. I just...I don't get me." He shrugged his shoulders as he continued to unpack the bag. Bloody hell, he didn't even realize how much he had ordered until now. "I guess I'm just...I don't know, I'm not used to being asked to bring dinner, and you know, share it, because I'm usually just asked to get dinner for people and then that's it, and I go home a-and that's it." He rose his eyes up to meet hers, hoping she didn't catch his little slip of a stutter as he placed the bag on the floor, then staring down at the piles of pasta.

"I, uh...I didn't know what you wanted. And I didn't know what I wanted so I couldn't base the order off of that, so I just got...everything..." his hand rose to rub at his neck. "Told you I don't get me."

"Well, it's a good thing one of us does, then," she said in response to Peter not getting himself. Dex gave him a mysterious smile and moved over next to him to inspect the many types of food he'd brought, standing close enough but not enough that they were touching. She nodded a bit, biting her bottom lip as she tried to make a decision.

"It's okay, if there are left overs, well, I'm sure there will be. But you can take some home and you can leave some, my brother will eat a bunch. He eats pretty much anything in the ice box. I have to make sure that he doesn't eat the odor catcher," Dex smiled and looked over at Peter, handing him a fork and a plate, picking up her own and putting a little bit of everything on it. "Did you want something to drink? I have some fizzy soda and some wine and some beer?"

"Heh...yeah, I guess so." He shifted as she moved closer to him, apologising under his breath, almost as though he felt like he was standing in a wrong spot, even though she was the one who was had moved towards him. He expected her to ask him to move at any given moment because he was in her way or something, but she didn't. Which was...surprising.

He took the plate and fork from her with a 'thanks' and then proceeded to shrug his shoulders when she asked him what he wanted. "Uh, I don't really care. I'll just have whatever you're having I guess." Peter was someone who went along with the crowd, and he usually didn't have an opinion of his own, which...wasn't always the best thing. If he didn't like tea and everyone else was having it, he'd drink it. If he didn't want to go somewhere but everyone else did, he'd go. Or, well...'everyone' was usually Sirius and/or James. Remus usually at least asked, while the other two were more the type to assume things because Peter never said anything about what he liked or what he didn't like. He didn't like a lot of different foods, and because of the whole rat thing he tried to stay away from any sort of cheese, which explained why he didn't take any alfedo, and just plopped a serving of plain tomato sauce pasta on the middle of his plate before he started to prod at it with his fork.

"So, uh...you have a brother?"

"Okay," Dex nodded, putting her plate on some empty counter space, moving over to the ice box and pulling out two bottles of soda. She opened them on the door and when one of them fizzed up Dexter laughed and licked the extra fuzz off her hand. She didn't like wasting stuff but handed the other bottle to Peter and grabbed a few napkins to wipe off the mess off of the floor. Once that was finished she turned back to Peter and smiled, "Whoopsie?"

She took her plate and leaned against the counter next to Peter, balancing the soda on the edge of the counter. "This smells good! I bet it tastes good too, even though it looks kind of slimy like a weird... octopus thingy but yeah." Dexter moved the pasta around her plate, mixing up the different flavors. She didn't like it when everything touched but didn't mix, she figured that she shouldn't be too picky and everything.

"Umm, yeah. He's my brother and we live here. He's the one with the kneazle, but he's with our dad in Brazil right now. Fire slugs you know? They're nasty buggers and need more than one pair of hands to deal with you know?"

Her laugh made him smile. It was cute, and it was girly but it wasn't high pitched and annoying. And it wasn't really loud. It was just...cute. "It happens to me all the time, if it makes you feel any bette." He really wasn't lying about that, since it was rare for him to do something like open a jar, or a soda, or anything with food or liquid inside of it and not get it all over the place.

Another 'thank you' was repeated as he took his drink, a bit nervous about where she had placed her soda. He was thinking that it being so close to the edge could only end disasterously, since the both of them seemed to be so clutzy...or, well, maybe she wasn't clutzy, but she did say how she usually spills things alot when they were at the Leaky Vauldron, so maybe that did count as clutzy. He didn't want to say anything that would seem rude, though. So, he just turned back to her and listened to whatever she had to say, staring down at his own small helping of single flavored pasta. "It's pretty good I guess. Doesn't taste much like octopus, even though it looks like it. At least, I don't reckon it does. I've never eaten octopus before."

He twirled the pasta and placed some in his mouth, taking a very small amount to chew because he didn't want to have his mouth be really full and have sauce drip down his shirt, or have too much food in his mouth and...augh, it would just be awrful.

He shook his head a little bit as he placed his food down on the counter. "I've never really dealt with fire slugs before, but I'll take your word for it." He turned back to his pasta, and began to move it around. He was mentally kicking himself for being such a bore, but he really was trying. So, he took a small sip of soda and then looked over to her. "So, uh...do you ever go to Brazil? To help your Dad with the fire slugs, I mean. Or for anything else, actually, doesn't really have to be the fire slugs, obviously."

"They are pretty gross. They're like large slugs only with like acid-like slime and they set stuff on fire a lot, but only when they're angry. Which they are a lot of the time because everything is constantly catching alight," Dex made a wild gesture with her empty fork, indicating the entire kitchen before spearing a tomato and getting a few pieces of pasta on it and taking a bite. She didn't really like telling a lot of stories anymore, about her travels, but Peter wasn't going to think she was showing off, right? He didn't seem like that kind of guy.

Dex used to love to tell stories about her family and what they did over the summers, it made her feel good and smarter than just some silly Hufflepuff blonde girl, but generally unless she was making a point, now she didn't just spout off about it. "Um, yeah. I mean, my dad and mum pretty much took us everywhere. My dad's a naturalist and author. He researches animals and magical creatures and stuff. We came to Brazil the summer after fourth year and spent the whole time there and dad just loves it there really. I think it's okay but it's not my favorite place really."

Peter really couldn't help the fact that his brows raised up when she mentioned that everything was always catching on fire when the slugs were angry. "Oh..." he said a little lamely as he once again began to poke at his pasta with his fork, listening to her speak again, nodding his head with interest before he took a sip of his soda, placing the bottle back down before he began to twirl at the speghetti.

"I've never been to Brazil. My parents aren't exactly the kind of people who like to travel...my Mum and Dad are muggles, who work behind the desk at some office. I'm not even really sure of what it is they do there, but I know they file a lot. I never really asked/" He took another small bite of food before he placed his fork down, swallowed and then turned back to her, hoping to change the topic from his parents. He never had the best relationship with them, so they weren't his favorite people to talk about. "So, where is your favorite place?"

"Well the world is made of many places," Dexter looked over at Peter with a shy smile, "but right now my favorite place in the world is in the kitchen right here." Dexter watched his reaction for a moment before taking a bite and continuing with the questions. It was actually pretty uncomfortable eating in the kitchen like this, next time she would get a table or something or not have her table covered in stuff.

"You're a muggleborn? That's so cool! Did you have any weird relatives or anything, like in your ancestry that maybe were a witch or wizard? Sometimes people have that, I've not really studied muggleborns or anything like that but there are people who think muggleborns are caused from having an ancestor with a recessive gene, or even squibs that were sold into muggle-hood you know? But muggles have this idea of DNA and I don't really know what it's all about but it's quite fascinating and makes more sense than every muggleborn having a bit of dabble in them. It's completely random and the blood and stuff. Though no one really knows where magic comes from anyway, so it's not like we're all not muggleborns really, originally speaking," Dexter looked up at Peter and blushed for going on so long, "Sorry, I like interesting topics. And sorry for not having a chair, I'd say we could sit on the couch but Deme doesn't like me eating on it. We have stain repelling spells and everything, but it's not fair to eat in front of the animals. You can meet them later though. You met Persephone already, she's a kneazle. She belongs to Deme and comes and goes as she pleases. Kneazles are very funny creatures, my mum and dad like to raise them. They have their own system of apparating, you know? Not like humans because it's not an incantation but not like house-elves either. They do the snappy thing and its a pop, like wizards, kneazles though, they can just crawl into a pocket or blanket and when they crawl out the other side it can be anywhere. She's probably in Brazil by now anyway, tattling on me to Deme. Though, she doesn't talk. They're intelligent, but not that smart."
