Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Barty Crouch Jr. and Iris Conway
When: Sunday evening
Where: the library

Iris was frustrated beyond belief. She didn't like it when she allowed people to get to her like that, but Franzy Dolohov, as much as she hated to admit it, had gotten under her skin. And she was still fuming about it half an hour later. How was she going to pay attention to her Transfiguration work if all she could think about was smacking that always present smug look off of her face?

She huffed as she stared at her text book, waiting for her tutor to show. It was bad enough that McGonagall had absolutely no faith in her, but she had the "pleasure" of spending time with Barty Crouch every week in hopes that he could jam the nonsense into her skull. It was all Greek to her, though. Nothing in the class had made sense to her since 5th year when she barely scraped by with a passing grade. She looked up at the large clock before sighing once again. He was late...

Good grief. Barty snorted. "Obviously you don't understand it on paper, if applying it is the problem. So go ahead," he leaned forward and sneered, "give her a go. I mean, if you've really mastered it on paper, then it must be a cinch in practice."

As an after thought, he added, "And if I did hear you mutter something about 13 OWLs, which I'm sure you didn't, I feel it necessary to remind you that I did indeed earn 13 of them. Including one in Transfiguration-- which I'm assuming is more than what you did?"

"You have to get at least an E on your Transfiguration OWL to move on to NEWT level, you twat," she growled back across the table. She wasn't going to tell him that she did a small amount of bonus work to raise her A to an E. It wasn't public knowledge that McGonagall allowed anything like that...but Iris was so determined (and she cried quite a bit) that the extra bit of work pushed her over. Sure, she may have gotten less than 13, but she'd done spectacularly in all her other subjects.

Iris rolled her eyes. "Can I try it on that smirk you're wearing? Maybe if I botch it up you won't have a mouth at all and I won't have to listen to you run it constantly."

"No," he said decidedly. "No, you'll work on the materials the book suggests. Knowing you and your skill level, I could end up with two mouths rather than none."

Barty observed her keenly, smirking slightly when she glowered. "I don't understand why you're so willing to just sit down and take my taunting. I mean, by now, most people would be absolutely sick of hearing me talk. And yet you... you just sit here and listen patiently. Really, your day was so rubbish?"

"I sit here because I'm told to by McGonagall," she replied matter-of-factly. "And yes, my day was rubbish enough to make your taunting sound like endless waves of praise." What didn't kill her just made her stronger, right?

Iris looked through the text once more before staring up at him. "You happen to have a pin cushion on you? Since that's what the text suggests to use."

Her insistence on not letting him bother her with his flippant remarks was fairly praiseworthy, he had to give her that. But that didn't mean he didn't enjoy trying to make these meetings as nightmareish as possible for her.

"I believe you were actually supposed to bring that," Barty snorted. "That falls under the category of 'materials,' which the tutoree generally is supposed to bring. Perhaps now we can disband early?"

"Fine. You've been ready to get out of here from the start anyways," she said with annoyance. She slammed her book shut before stalking back to the stacks, not wanting to be around Barty--or anyone, for that matter--at the moment. Everyone was out to bother her today, she was so sure of it.

She wanted to scream...or to throw something...or, she didn't know what else, but she had so much pent up frustration at that moment it was becoming too much for her to bear.
