James felt like he was in a zoo on display, the feeling of a million pairs of eyes sitting upon him. Dumbledore had set up the Hog's Head as an 'informational meeting' of sorts, for people they had all suggested, thought of, and found to be highly trustworthy. These people were going to be offered to put their lives on the line for their dying secret society, and James was surprised as hell that so many had actually shown up.

They were all idiots, he believed.

But then again, they must all think that he and the rest of the original Order (he felt so old, saying that) were out of their minds. To them, the Order was just a bunch of kids who got caught up in a big, ugly mess and were now crying for help. Which it felt like, sometimes, but James wasn't ready to admit that out loud. He wasn't sure if he ever could, which was why he was staying uncharacteristically silent through the whole engagement. He was slumped in one of the booths of the tavern, eyes following the mingling and quite chatter that was going on.

Drinks will be served! Dumbledore had ended jovially, and James had sighed. Part of him felt like a wretched person for getting more and more people involved into the war, but the other, very tired part of him was ready to hand over the reigns and let Voldemort get some new toys to play with.

[OOC] The tags are for those characters invited to join the Order. They do not mean that your character HAS TO join the Order. They could come to this meeting and decide against it, or not show up at all. If you do not tag this thread with your character, we are going to assume in-game that they did not show up to the meeting.

Original Order Members! Please tag the thread to get conversations and such going? It'll help oodles ♥

...all right, Vinny definitely topped the list of people she'd expected never to see again (let alone at a meeting with these people).

Marissa didn't hesitate in tossing her arms around his shoulders and drawing him in for a firm, well-intentioned hug that lasted for perhaps a few seconds longer than was comfortable for his lungs. Still, she hadn't seen him in so long and -- and he was here now, and not in Canada or wherever it was that he'd run off to -- damnit, she was entitled to being a mushy Hufflepuff now and again.

"Hey. Did you bring me any maple syrup?"

Oy. Vinny pressed his lips together tightly to force any emotion back. It was terrible, how much he'd missed these people, especially his Hufflepuffs. His heart had shattered at the news of Gleny's 'death', but hearing that she was actually safe, with Tristan too---Vinny was finding all new reasons for some hope in this world.

"Well," he said, finally pulling away from her, "I've actually got a syrup endorsement. Or, well---did. I'm not too sure how much they like me over there right now."

Or over here. Vinny had no desire to head back to the Cannons, but what else was he supposed to do? He'd been a quidditch player all of his life, and...now what?

Oh, he looked tenser than he had when he was acting captain and they were going to lose a match. She furrowed her brows and gave him another big squeeze before she drew back with her arms crossed over her chest, trying not to look too serious.

"They can bite me, contracts are binding up until the point they're terminated or something. They at least owe you some maple syrup," she managed with a slight smile. Anything to keep from having to talk about why they were both here.

Unless Vinny had been a member from the beginning, but she didn't think that was the case. He wouldn't have gone to Canada if that was the case, right?

Right.

"I'll be sure your cabinet is full of syrup, a late Christmas present." Vinny thought for a moment, "Or early?"

Maybe they could just stand here and talk like this forever. Maybe Gleny'll come in, and then they can reminisce and act like there wasn't a war raging outside these doors, that Vinny's fiancee hadn't been murdered, that Gleny's house hadn't blown up, and that Marissa wasn't next in line for something terrible to happen.

Yes, that would be a very pleasant way to go about things, ignoring everything else.

"So--" he motioned toward an empty table, managing to ignore the smell of the Hog's Head. He couldn't ignore the obvious forever, and he really did want to know why Marissa (another good friend of his!) was joining the Order, "Are you insane, coming here?"

Oh, that question was completely loaded. She stiffened up a little and placed her hands defiantly on her hips, brow arched.

"No more than you. Probably less than you, actually, since I'm not the one who bailed out on a Quidditch contract. I'm guessing that's why they're right pissed at you, at least." Marissa knew just as well as Vinny did why she was here -- because her friends were here and clearly their counterparts couldn't keep them safe since Gleny's house got blown up.

She slid into a seat at the table and continued to watch Vinny, guarded but trying to be warm. He'd had a hard time of things lately and she wasn't about to just let him slip down into depression or something over ... well, anything.

Once you had a bloke as a captain they entered a whole new level of friendship accessible to only a few people.

When he'd gone to Canada, it had been all over the tabloids, his devastatingly romantic story. Vinny hadn't understood what was so romantic about doing nothing while your fiancee and her family was murdered, but that's what he was asked in every interview. Was it hard? How has it affected your life? How do you answer that? Would you really want to admit that you ran away and left everything you had behind? Vinny had gladly accepted the image of the strong survivor of a far away war, especially if it made his short, one word answers acceptable to the media.

The fact that he had skipped back over the pond to England probably made a lot of sense, back there. He would have pissed off people, of course, but it was just part of his mysterious story. He'd be the story of the week, and soon be forgotten, which was exactly what he wanted.

"It's just a game," he muttered, repeating the mantra that had been going on in his head since he'd taken the portkey from Moosejaw.

"Right, I totally buy that." She resisted the urge to roll her eyes. The fact was that Vinny had run away, but she couldn't very well have blamed him at the time and she sure as hell didn't blame him right now. To have someone you loved killed like that, over the exact thing they were fighting over still ... that had to be hard.

She furrowed her brows and sighed. "Are you actually going to join, or are you trying to ward people off?" Or both, but she didn't know how much that made sense.
