He tolerated her boozy, coquettish behavior simply as an attempt to avoid the oncoming lecture he was very firmly going to give her in any case, perhaps by enticing him to join in for a glass or two. As interfering as Amery was, it was because someone needed to be. And being that the one beacon of sensibility in this family had died, Amery did his halfhearted best to try and maintain some of the outlandish things this family did (the bloodlust etc. aside).
"No, Juliana, it will kill someone, this is your child and you have to--"
Not that Amery had been saying that. No, he'd certainly been thinking about it, and he was just about ready to open his mouth to continue this thought aloud when Juliana mentioned a very interesting fact that she should, in all likelihood, ought never have mentioned.
The glass in his hand dropped, shattering on the floor.
"Juliana," he began, jaw clenched and the words coming out slowly and tightly, pronouncing each word carefully so that he wouldn't start throwing glassware around for the fun of it, "what would Christopher have to do with this?"
