Who: Santiago and Jolene-Lucille
What: Being cute.
Where: The hospital.
When: Tuesday

It wasn't often that Jolene visted her husband at work. The hospital made her feel a bit squeamish, and she tended to avoid places where her clumsiness might have catastrophic effects. But today she decided that she wanted to do something extra-nice for him, and so had prepared him his favorite lunch. A quick charm ensured that it wouldn't get cold on the way over and, storing it in a modest brown bag (she figured that anything extravagant might embarass him in front of his peers), she made her way over.

To her credit, she only got turned around twice while looking for his office, finally arriving at his door with a broad smile and a dorky wave. Her caramel-colored hair was pulled up away from her face in a ponytail, and her slender frame was dressed in a pair of wide-leg trousers and a button-down green blouse. "Hi!" she squeaked, and immedaitely entered, presenting the packaged lunch with a dramatic flourish that nearly sent one of his framed licenses flying off the wall. "Oh, sorry," was her sheepish lament, and she immediately set the bag down on the desk in order to right what she had so accidentally wronged. "I made you some lunch and thought I'd bring it by." She cast him a mega-watt grin and twisted to face him.

Of course, that wasn't the
only reason she'd come by, but that could always wait. "Are you busy, or can you spare some time for your esposa?" Yes, she was trying to learn Spanish.

When his door opened, Santiago had not been expecting such a lovely sight. He had been swamped with paperwork all day, as it was that time of the year. The hospital was beginning the flood of silly, silly people who were attempting to find their true loves with love potions advertised on the back of milk cartons. You would not believe how many love sick people (or just plain sick, because the potion was brewed incorrectly) that had been roaming the halls lately. Some of which ended up into quite the interesting situations with some of the interns, but those were stories best left to the changing rooms.

Santiago grinned broadly at his wife (Wife! Esposa! It was incredibly beautiful, hearing her speak spanish) and dropped his quill immediately. Pushing up and out of his seat, Santiago quickly came around the table to greet her with a kiss, arms wrapping around her waist. It was so very easy to display affection, now.

"Para siempre," he said, winking, "Always--" Santiago knew the only way she would really learn the second language was with his help, so he tried to translate what he could (conversations with Graciela would take some time, pero-).

She giggled and melted willingly into his embrace, arms poised to wrap themselves around the back of his neck so that she could lean in and kiss him again, just for good measure. "Bueno." Yes, it was true... her grasp of the language was coming along slowly but surely, but she was convinced that she would never be able to keep up when Santi and his sister (or any of his other family members, for that matter) were having a discussion. She had decided on their wedding day that she would stand aside and smile politely and hope that they weren't talking about her.

"Sooo," she drawled, letting her fingers dance lightly along his shoulders, "I was wondering if... well, if you have some free time... we could maybe go for a walk?" A hopeful grin accompanied this; she even tilted her head, much like Ares tended to do when the magic 'W' word was spoken aloud.

Had he just been mentally complaining about having too much work to do? No, no that couldn't be, because Santiago never just left piles of work to simply go for a walk. If he did have things to do, he would never be grinning and taking his wife's hand and leading her out the door, that would not happen in a million years.

Okay, so---maybe she had a bit of a way with him.

"Where shall we go? I do not think we finished the tour, last time." Maybe these kind of walks were becoming a habit, maybe the nurses teased him and asked him how his stroll was. It wasn't any different from their normal teasing (though that used to involve more winking and catcalls--he now had a ring to...somewhat stop that. Andromeda Tonks could not be controlled)

SHe scrunched her face thoughtfully as they made their way down the hall, trying to recall where they had left off on the wonderful tour of the hospital. "Well," she sing-songed, "we could go to the maternity ward?" She gave him a very innocent look. "You didn't get to show me that last time." All part of her evil plan. Yes.

She was well aware that her husband was a catch, and didn't generally get jealous unless there was, you know, inappropriate touching involved.

Santiago sent her a strange sort of smile, amused that she'd picked the maternity ward, well---no, all women loved looking at the babies, but she picked it rather quickly. Maybe she had just played with Marcus, or something...though that would want to send Santiago far away from children. Pero! No, he did appreciate Marcus' sense of humor, but the boy could definitely wear him out, and he'd only babysat him a few times, with Jolene in full control of the situation.

"Sure, I think it is nap time," meaning, well. It was always nap time, they were infants. Santiago remembered when Zacharias first came home; there was nothing to do with him other than whisper about how you couldn't speak loudly or you'd scare him. Now his nephew was learning to walk and actually understanding things and--it was very exciting!

His office was two floors above the ward, so! "The lift it is!"

She wound her arm through his and allowed herself to be led in the direction of the lifts. However, once inside she immediately began to bounce impatiently upon the balls of her feet, fidgeting while she waited to arrive at the desire floor. Once the doors opened, it was like she could not get out fast enough, tugging him excitedly into the hall much like a child at a carnival wanting to take in everything at once. When she looked up at him again, there was a nervous excitement eminating from the depths of her eyes; that was why she was so terrible at lying and keeping surprises. She tended to wear her every emotion right there on her face, something her brother had been rolling his eyes at for years.

"Santi, I was thinking."

More dangerous words had never been spoken. "Well, I mean I have a question for you. And it might seem like... well, like a weird question, and it sort of is because you know that I don't normally ask things like this. But I do have a reason. A good reason, actually..." Rambling. Merlin, but she was rambling! Pull it together, Jolene! Drawing a deep breath and resting her head against his shoulder, she quietly voiced her inquiery. "The first time we met... you know, when I was all horrid-looking and disgusting. Did you think that I was even a little pretty, then?"

The window overlooking the nursery was now in sight.

Santiago let out an honestly surprised laugh, "The first time we met! The first time we met--I was babbling like a fool and, and do you remember that checkup, with your brother? I knocked over a tray on the way to your room and knocked over a glass of water on your dresser."

Was that an answer enough? His friends had noticed his immediate attraction to Jolene (again! More teasing! His friends were so cruel), and it was not as if Santiago had been very good at hiding it. Asking her on a date through the journals, the moment she was better? Very, very subtle, indeed.

The walls turned a pale green, and there was giggling and ooohing and ahhing getting louder and louder; yes, they were definitely int he maternity ward. Hopefully Healer Jordan didn't question his appearance--she was really rather protective of 'her' ward.

She actually blushed. She hadn't had any idea that that had been because of her... she had assumed it was just him being clumsy, something that she could relate to all too well. But she was all too happy to hear it. As they approached the window, Jolene immediately adopted the 'aww' expression... you know, head tilted, eyes unmistakeably dreamy.

"Well... do you think I would be pretty if I got, say... round and unforgiveably cranky and emotional?" She turned her attention from the cooing little bundles to look at him, eyebrows raised as a nervous smile tugged the corners of her lips upward. She let that sink in for a second before indicating the rows of babies with one index finger and sheepishly murmering, "I want one," just to drive the point home.

"You want---one?" he responded weakly, more shocked than anything, really. He had to let it settle, he had to let his mind accept the idea that Jolene wanted...one. One---Santiago's eyes drifted toward the glass that separated them and the nursery of infants. She wanted one of---those.

Santiago blinked at the babies, unsure now, if he had ever honestly thought about children. He knew that somewhere beyond this solid brick wall his wife had slammed him into, he had, because he was very much the family man, but maybe---he just had to let the little birdies flying around his head disappear before he gave her a final answer.

He did have to give her an answer, sim? Because--that is a question you had to answer. Babies, they had just married! Why so---Santiago's eyebrows raised; they rushed their wedding because they did not know how this war was going to turn. Would it be selfish to want to start a family? It would be terrible to not even try, worse, he believed--

"Do you...want to get started?" he said slowly, a bit of a wolfish grin playing on his lips. The idea of--a baby with Jolene was quite suddenly knocking down that brick wall and showing him how very, very wonderful it actually would be.

It was true that they had never discussed wanting children before. It was also very true that it was incredibly soon after their wedding to even be thinking about it. Perhaps it was selfish to want to bring children into the world, even given the terrible state it was in now, but Jolene had always dreamt of having a family and, when it came down to it, everyone else was doing it (though she would never tell Santi that... no man would ever undestand what it was like to watch everyone get pregnant around you when you wanted it for yourself).

Watching the wheels turn in his head, she began to panic. Perhaps now was a bad time to tell him. What if he didn't even want children? But then there was that smile (goodness, but it sent a blush racing straight up her throat to her cheeks) and those words and... she giggled loudly and swatted at his arm. She figured he wouldn't have much objection to helping out with that part. "Santi! You're terrible." But she leapt at him and wrapped him in a tight hug anyway, lowering her voice to a near-whisper as she innocently asked, "When do you get off work?"

"I could take my lunch a little early..."

There were some perks to being chief resident, after all. One of them being in control of the schedules and the like. Santiago rarely took advantage of this (and Jolene was quite aware of how much of a stickler he was with following the rules), but this was a very important rescheduling. Yes, what if this exact hour was the perfect time to conceive their perfect child? Because of course he or she would be perfect, there was no doubt.

Plus he knew where all the on-call rooms were, and with his authoritative voice, it would certainly be no problem emptying them. And--there was a bit of a thrill to that, yes? Yes, he believed so, he had heard all the whispers and snickers and the like. Now that he was married, he supposed it was not so scandalous, pero. It was still very exciting.

"Are you busy?"

She actually had to stop and take a good, hard look at him to discern if he was joking or not. How strangely uncharacteristic of her husband to suggest such a thing! But it wasn't like she was complaining. Despite the sligh flush that lingered in her complexion, she wasn't about to object. Let's face it, these two were both bona-fide goody-goodies... they needed the excitement!

Giggling, she shook her head no and leaned further against him, arching one slender brow up at him. "I think I could clear out my schedule for you." She couldn't believe how quickly he had jumped on board for this idea. To be honest, she hadn't expected it to go over nearly this well... But who was she to complain? She casually slipped a hand just beneath the hem of his shirt, and paused long enough to offer a concerned frown. "But what if you run late getting back?"

She was, of course, under the impression that he meant them to go back home.

Santiago grinned, curving his arm around her even tighter to help Jolene move away from the babies (Babies! Deus, it was going to be all eh could think about from now on!) and toward the nearest on-call room. Because--yes, it was definitely a time to bend the rules to get something important done.

He pushed his back into the door, glad that there was no one inside already. Yes, he did know the schedules he wrote forward and back.

"Well---" he said, tugging his wife into the dark room. The bed would hopefully explain everything to her, and Santiago simply grinned and shrugged his shoulders, "I do not think I can be late, if I am already here."

She allowed herself to be drawn away from the window, forehead wrinkling in confusion as she found herself led suddenly into a darkened on-call room. She had never been inside one of these before, and to be quite frank the sight of a vacant bed was perhaps the last thing she expected to see. But surprise quickly gave way to realization, and with a breathless giggle (she'd never done anything like this before!) she melted against him standing up on tiptoe to capture his lips with hers in a liplock that was a far-cry from the innocent pecks they shared in public.

When she broke away, she was slightly breathless when she whispered, "THat's very resourceful of you." Seperating herself from him, she started walking backwards towards the bed, taking his hand to guide him through the dark room... however, she misjudged the distance between herself and the matress, and when the back of her knees hit it she let out a squeak of surprise before toppling onto it. Her following giggles were muffled against her palm. "At least I didn't miss the bed completely..."
