Who: Ashlyn and Keegan
Where: Hogwarts Express
What: Discussion about their future
Keegan stepped onto Platform Nine and Three Quarters and automatically began to look for Ashlyn. His hazel eyes were quick and he felt like running away. She couldn't really be pregnant could she? They had taken precautions. This was not possible. He had been lost in thoughts since he and Ashlyn had talked over their journals. They weren't ready that was for damn sure. Eventually, down the line after they had both set up good paying jobs and gotten a house but now? In the middle of war? So much for keeping to plans, he thought grimly and spotted Ashlyn in the crowd and began to make his way to her. He shoved one of his hands in his pocket and let the other tow his bags.
"Ashlyn!" he called out over the crowd and began to push his way through to get to her. He wasn't sure if he was quite ready for this conversation but he'd rather have it in private between himself and Ashlyn then in front of the whole school. The thought that the rumor would spread quickly didn't even register in his mind. He was more concerned if they were going to keep the baby or not. He blew out a deep breath and raised his hand out of his pocket to try to catch her attention.
Ashlyn felt a wave of panic wash over her when she heard Keegan's voice calling out her name. Oh God, what was she thinking? They couldn't do this...couldn't have this talk and just-- she wasn't ready for this. She felt queasy, as if she would throw up at any given moment but that could also be the baby at work. It wasn't that Ashlyn could say that she was ready for this baby, ready for the idea of being a mother already, but more that she had known for so long now that it was slowly becoming an accepted reality for her.
She closed her eyes and drew in a slow breath. This was going to be fine. They'd figure out something--what exactly, she wasn't sure, but something. It was just a silly conversation, just...words. There were more important things to worry about at that moment. About herself, about him, about this fucking queasy feeling that wasn't subsiding. She wasn't going to let herself worry about the baby and about where they were going to go from here. She was going to try, at that moment, to live in the moment. Things would progress in their own fashion; she had to have faith that they would. Heart racing at a million miles, Ashlyn opened her eyes and waved helplessly in Keegan's direction. Ohhhhh boy.
He saw her waving and rushed over to her and kissed her on the lips automatically. "You ready to go back to school?" Trying to make the question look easy and not wring his own neck in his own queasiness. There was a baby growing inside of her and it was his. Oh God. He blew out a deep breath and offered to take her bags for her. With his free hand he slid it easily into Ashlyn's. He kissed the top of her head and murmured, "I know you don't want to talk about this out here. We'll wait until we're ready to."
Keegan squeezed her hand tightly and inhaled and exhaled. He felt like having a panic attack and he didn't even know how a panic attack felt. "Let's go find that compartment." He yelled over the steaming train. He managed a small smile onto his face. He was still happy to see her. He did love her with all of his heart. He just wasn't sure he was ready to be a father.
Ashlyn smiled warily, barely noticing as they pushed their way through the crowd. This was the last conversation that she wanted to have with Keegan, at least--well, at least not right at that moment. She had been planning their wedding and was so ready and excited and--would they even have a wedding now? She'd ordered the dresses, so--it wouldn't be right to not have it but...ugh, she didn't want to think about this right now.
After a somewhat short jaunt down the hall of the train, she found an empty compartment to sit in, helping Keegan move their bags out of the hall as quickly as possible so they could shut the door and keep people from bothering them. This was going to be okay. She kept telling herself that everything happened for a reason, that this--this baby was here for a reason that she didn't know yet and that it was going to be okay. She sat down on one of the benches and let out a slow sigh. "So..." What were they going to do?
He rubbed the back of his neck carefully and sat down across from her. Locking the door from his seat hazel eyes stayed on her but he didn't want want to sit extremely close, just in case she wanted to hit. The same thoughts were running through his mind and quietly he said, "So...do you want to keep it?" He knew that Ashlyn wanted to be a hit wizard and this would put a halt her career. The response he would get from her was fifty-fifty. It had crossed his mind several times during the course of the time remaining on the break before this conversation.
He said quickly, "I'm just never sure what you're thinking. Either way I'm going to support you one hundred percent. If you want me to finish school or drop out to work and take care of the nanny so you can continue schooling, I will." An exhale was released, "I love you and I'm not leaving you," he frowned for a moment, "And you're not Ingrid." Keegan knew his girlfriend well enough to know that Ingrid had crossed her mind several times since she found out. He was slightly relieved to get what he had to say off of his chest.
"I--I think that..." she let out a slow sigh. "You know that--that my parents would never---agree with that." She looked down at her hands, scrunching up her face a bit. "I mean...I know that it means that--that things will be hard after we finish school but. But..." Was it the right thing to do? There was this teeny tiny part of Ashlyn that was ready and excited. She was a modern woman, she could handle work and a kid, right? "You are not dropping out of school for me. No. I mean, it's only been 2 months or something, so the baby won't be due until after we finish up." One of them would have to get the good N.E.W.T.s to get a higher paying job, after all, and him dropping out would make that even more rough. "We'll figure it out. I'll take--I'll take a night job if I have to, so I can be at home with the baby during the day.
She looked up at him, holding her tongue from lashing out at him for the 'I'm not leaving you' comment. Like hell he would, because it was half his fault. She never expected him to be the type to leave so it had never crossed her mind, but it was that sort of personality trait in men that just set her off. "I know I'm not," she said softly. Ingrid--ugh, this was such a mess. This didn't make her a hypocrite, did it? They had been careful, she was on the potion and he'd been using protection...they were in a 100% committed relationship and were engaged to be married in the fall. It was such a different experience than that of Ingrid and yet--Ashlyn felt this huge knot form at the thought of what the girls at school would say and think. She'd be showing by May for sure, and big as a balloon by the time they were finishing up their last exams. Ugh, and what if she had to be put on bed rest? Or--or...bloody hell.
He blew out a large breath and he moved closer to her. "Then we'll keep it. We can move the marriage up if you want to and let your parents figure things out if that's the way you wanted. I'm just going to have to study harder on my N.E.W.T.s than I did with my O.W.L.s. We'll figure it out Ashlyn. We'll make this work and make the baby work. If you want to hide the fact that you are pregnant we can and if you want to be loud and proud about it; I'll support that too."
A sigh was given again and he attempted to wrap his arms around her. "I'll support whatever you want to do. No matter what." A kiss was left on her temple and he resisted the urge to rub his temples. The worrying that had been processing through his brain was finally lifted and he could feel a stress headache coming on.
They were going to keep the baby. They were going to be parents, they were going to--ohhh, Lord. "I think," she said softly, "we should take this--being loud thing slowly." They hadn't even told people they were engaged, and she strongly thought that should be the first step. And then the wedding--oi, she didn't want to get married when she was as big as a blimp but--would their Easter holiday be too soon? She would talk about it later, when both of their minds had a chance to settle down a bit.
She curled up on the seat, resting her head on his shoulder. "I love you," she murmured softly. This would--have to be okay, right? Even though they were so young, they could make it work. The worst part would be telling her parents, telling his parents. She could handle the whispers at school (it wasn't as if it would be the first time that gossip went around about her).
He'd go to the end of earth to defend her as well. "I love you too Ash. Always." An arm wrapped easily around her and he held her close. They would make it work no matter what the cost. Keegan would go through hell and high water to be with Ashlyn and now their baby. His parents would come around to it eventually. They'd get excited as Ashlyn started to show more and they were confident that they both could handle the weight and responsibility of what was growing in Ashlyn's stomach.
"Why don't you take a nap love? I'll wake you when the snack trolley comes and you can have whatever you like." He leaned down and kissed her lips gently. "We've got a long train ride and we've got to worry about school right now and finding you a Healer close to school. We'll eventually have to tell a Professor. I don't want you to go much longer without seeing one." He chewed on his lower lip. "I'll be right here when you wake up."
