Madeline!
Caitlin could honestly not wait for this year to be over. She knew it was just a day on the calender, that in the whole wide spectrum of the world and universe, December 31st turning into January 1st didn't actually wash away all of the ill will the 'year' before brought, but holy hell was she ready to give in to all that garbage. It was amazing, really, how different one year could be from the next. 1978 was filled with nothing but good, marriages---babies, children, just a lovely year for her and her family. Of course there had been a few bumps, but when New Year's rolled around, she remembered wishing the year wouldn't end.

Now---now it was a bloody good riddance, and Caitlin knocked softly on Madeline's front door, quite the opposite from her nearly violent mood. Her friend was upset and in a fragile state, there was no need to lay her worries on Madeline. That was what her husband was for, of course.

Her eyes drifted around the frame of the door, remembering what it was like to be pregnant with Luciana---Luciana, who had already lost two uncles and an aunt before she even had the capacity to remember them. That was what pained her the most, the fact that her daughter, her future children, were so unfairly taken away the joy of their family, it was just--it was just ridiculous, and for what? What did any of her family's deaths prove? Nothing, they didn't do a damn thing and---

"Hello!" she chirped when the door opened, presenting Madeline with a perfectly happy expression. Caitlin had always been good at putting on a mask. "I've brought you a bottle of mustard and of ketchup---and various items to dip into them."

"I like assortments," she said with a nod. If it involved food, damn right. She was a fiend for it now. Or maybe the baby...

There was always food in the house, always, but sometimes it just wasn't enough, or there wasn't something she liked and didn't feel like going out. Matt was still working until the next bad thing happened, which she hoped wouldn't be another lay off, something they couldn't afford at the moment. It was too much worry, too much to think about. She never used to be like this! No one did, for that matter.

At least she was having some girl time, something she hadn't had in a while. Maybe this would brighten up her day.

Rubbing her stomach lightly, she looked at the food with interest. Meats and ice cream and pickles! "Oh, you're good. You really are. Crackers with mustard and ketchup and everything else. Ooh, so yummy." The baby kicked in appreciation and she hadn't even eaten anything yet!

Caitlin smiled gently and spread out the crackers onto a plate with a quick swish of her wand. No need to get her hands dirty when you had learned all these very nifty kitchen spells. Tabby had helped with this--spells she was pretty sure that the woman had learned from Molly Weasley, but it was good to share the wealth, right?

She slid onto a stool and watched Madeline pick and choose. Being pregnant had been a very good experience for her, one that she had admittedly not been looking forward to. Of course, she and Ioan hadn't been planning to get pregnant (a month before the wedding, goodness she still was teased by her siblings for it), so Caitlin liked to assume that it was because she wasn't prepared, but. Going through pregnancy at the same time as her sister had been helpful, even if she and Deidra had always butted heads.

Merlin, she missed her.

Caitlin blinked quickly when she realized she'd been staring, and a strange smile slid across her face, "Have you thought of any names?"
