Joyyyy
Finn had really underestimated the hyper activeness of a room full of toddlers.

As Joy let out last of the party stragglers, Finn leaned against the back counter of the kitchen, yawning greatly. Cormac could barely walk, how he and his little friends had managed to run into every room of the house was completely beyond him. There were streamers thrown about every piece of furniture, his cushions were stained with cake and candy-coated handprints, and Finn really didn't want to know about the dirty diaper bin they'd set up in the bathroom.

His nose scrunched as Joy returned, and he lifted his chin to point at their son, who was passed out like a log in a nearly upside down position on the couch. Thankfully everything had been charmed for an extra bounce because of all the little ones running into things, but they should probably move him before he twitched and fell to the ground.

Eh, in a minute.

"That was the wildest party I've ever been to in my life."

"Well, this certainly proves he's our kid."

Joy came into the kitchen and hopped up backwards onto the counter. With a sound of relief, she leaned her head back against the cupboards and closed her eyes. There was really no better birth control than hosting a party for little kids. Joy had thought that Cormac was good at running her down, but that kid was just the tip of the iceberg--after today, she couldn't imagine dealing with more than one of him for any extended period of time. What in the hell did people with multiple children do to stay alive?

Well, at least he seemed to be worn out too. Joy opened her eyes and smirked at the sight of Cormac dead asleep on the couch, and laughed a little. She wished she had the camera just then, but she'd thrown it aside somewhere about five minutes into the party in order to chase down three two-year-olds who were tormenting Donut. She now neither knew where the thing was, nor did she have the energy to care enough to look for it.

"Seriously, I'm never having another kid ever."

He nodded slowly, rubbing the back of his neck. Finn hadn't had the thought of how parents of more than one kid must feel today, all he could think was that Cormac was never having another party, ever. Not for his second birthday, not his fifth or eleventh or seventeenth of bloody eightieth. He'd partied enough today for the rest of his life, even though he probably wouldn't remember anything from it in the years to come.

"Yeaaaaaaaah."

Finn yawned once more and leaned back, only to have something press against him. Oh, right. The Last Birthday Present. His eyebrows rose, wondering how he'd managed to forget about it, but the chaos his son and his guests had caused answered that question. He tilted his head to look at Joy, a slight grin on his face.

"You know, it's kind of your 'birth' day, too."

"Oh really?"

Joy glanced over and arched her brow. The way he was grinning made her grin as well, although hers was tinged with obvious confusion. He was being cute--if you could ever use such an adjective with him---, but instead of being worried about it, now she really wanted to know just what he was up to.

Suddenly, Joy was feeling very awake again. She sat up straight again and leaned forward a little towards him, legs bouncing against the counters like a little kid before she even realized it. "Why do you bring that up?"

Finn let out a low chuckle and pushed off the counter to stand in front of Joy, maybe even pushing her legs apart to stand between them. He pressed his hands on the counter on either side of her and leaned forward, clicking his tongue against his teeth as she began to bounce excitedly. There were days when her exuberance made him want to slam doors and scream (mostly after a loss), but lately all he'd been able to do was appreciate Joy's...joyful presence. Ha.

"Because I might have something to celebrate it. I do think mum's go a bit unnoticed on this very special day." Again his eyebrows rose, and Finn was suddenly aware of how very quiet the room was. Save for Cormac's snoring, of course, which was definitely going to be loud and annoying when he got older, but. Even the dogs had disappeared into their usual hiding places (Finn only knew where they were because they dragged his old jerseys into their spots.

He liked the silence. As much as he liked the roar of the crowd and the hollering of fans, Finn liked the control he had in the silence. He could let it stay like this forever, or he could break it with a single gesture.

Sticking his hand into his pocket and pulling out a small box to hand it to Joy was his way of destroying the silence.

What was that? WHAT WAS THAT!?

Joy's eyes must have popped out of her head at the sight of that box. Because if she recalled, those were the sorts of boxes that held rings and rings were given to you by your boyfriend usually preceding a very important question and---hold on, hold on, she had to have a moment to herself real quick to stare stupidly at it, because like. This was Finn, right? Because when she thought about who was holding this box out, it seemed very unlikely--IMPOSSIBLE, even--that it could actually be him. Finn was never keen on marriage.

You know who was keen on marriage? Tibs. AHA, so that was it, it was Tibs and he had polyjuiced himself and done this, because this could not possibly be her boyfriend. Right? But---Tibs was off in America, there was no way he could be here proposing to her (wait--that was a creepy thought, now that she thought about it), and so it... was actually Finn?

Christ almighty, the world was ending.

Reaching out, Joy took the box out of his hand and uncertainly flipped the lid open. She didn't know what she was expecting--maybe some snake would jump out at her and he'd double over laughing, knowing he'd gotten her, he would do that--, but what she got was blinded by one of the most stunning diamonds she thought she'd probably ever seen. For the first time, it really hit her.

"Ohhhhmygod."

Ok so Tibs was very very annoyed, because their flight was delayed so therefore he missed his nephews first birthday party. Which was just tragic. But it was ok now, because now he was on Finn's front porch juggling all the bags in his hands. (Cormac's presents, Ice cream for Joy because it had been far too long since she had Tib's delivered Ice Cream, and other souvenirs for the whole lot of them) He finally managed to open the door and was just about to yell surprise when the seen before him stopped him mid-word and all the bags he was carrying fell to the floor.

"YOU'RE PROPOSING?!" Tibs yelled instead the planned 'SURPRISE'. "You are proposing and you didn't even TELL me? Aw that's so not fair! I told you!"

Finn's head shot toward the front door at the sudden appearance of his brother and family, and---just, perfect. Not even the sarcastic kind of perfect, but the actual, literal, this-was-perfect kind of perfect. He grinned and stopped himself from rolling his eyes at his brother's exclamation.

"Shut up, Tiberius!" Elena hissed from behind, whacking her husband with her bag.

"Hello," Finn called over, acknowledging them before turning back to Joy with a very amused grin. Well. Now that the semi-romantic atmosphere he'd managed to create was gone (well, at least he had found it to be romantic), might as well get to the point. "Tibs is right, again. I'm proposing." Finn tried to put on a serious expression, but he couldn't stop smiling, "Do you want to marry me?"

"Uh, no shit I do!"

In her own signature gracelessness, she blurted it out so fast that Joy wasn't even sure that she had thought about it before she did. But it wouldn't have mattered anyway, because her answer would have been no different if she'd had years to think about it. She didn't even know when she'd decided that marriage was no longer scary, but lately the thought was more exciting than frightening. Well---not too exciting, because she knew it'd never happen with Finn, but apparently it was happening with Finn and ohmygodthiswassocool.

Reaching forward, she grabbed Finn's face with both hands and kissed him, hard. As an afterthought, she let go with one hand to wave a distracted hello to her finally-to-be-real in-laws, but the only thing she really cared about right now was how amazing this man was.
