Finn let out a low chuckle and pushed off the counter to stand in front of Joy,
maybe even pushing her legs apart to stand between them. He pressed his hands on the counter on either side of her and leaned forward, clicking his tongue against his teeth as she began to bounce excitedly. There were days when her exuberance made him want to slam doors and scream (mostly after a loss), but lately all he'd been able to do was appreciate Joy's...joyful presence. Ha.
"Because I might have something to celebrate it. I do think mum's go a bit unnoticed on this very special day." Again his eyebrows rose, and Finn was suddenly aware of how very quiet the room was. Save for Cormac's snoring, of course, which was definitely going to be loud and annoying when he got older, but. Even the dogs had disappeared into their usual hiding places (Finn only knew where they were because they dragged his old jerseys into their spots.
He liked the silence. As much as he liked the roar of the crowd and the hollering of fans, Finn liked the control he had in the silence. He could let it stay like this forever, or he could break it with a single gesture.
Sticking his hand into his pocket and pulling out a
small box to hand it to Joy was his way of destroying the silence.
