The Halloween Ball! --Posted for Friday!
In all of her years at Hogwarts, in all of her years being a prefect and working on a team full of the best students in Hogwarts, Phoebe Smethwyck had never been as impressed as she was right now as she stared around the Great Hall. Illuminated with candles in all shapes and sizes (and colors, a nifty charm a sixth year had found), the tables surrounding the dance floor were decorated with pumpkins, spiderwebs, and fall leaves, creating a spooky, yet beautiful design. The Ghosts of Hogwarts had volunteered to mingle more than usual (she thanked Nearly Headless Nick profusely, and promised to hold him a belated Death-Day party), captivating the guests with stories---how much truth they held, she couldn't be sure, but they were interesting nonetheless.

The band was a new kind of wizard rock, a bit more political than the Hobgoblins, W.O.A.R. There had been a lot of discussion at the prefect meetings about whether or not they should try and book them, but at the end of the day the naysayers (read: the Slytherins) were outvoted, and the band with the hit song "Do You Believe in M.A.G.I.C" was creating an incredible atmosphere.

So---people looked happy. They were laughing, smiling, and just---happy. Not something Phoebe felt like the wizarding world had been in a long time, and she was glad to be a big part of it.

Now, if only she could find a reason to be happy, herself.

He rarely bothered with these kinds of events, but as his mother had become increasingly weepy and annoying that he had not yet been matched with a suitable young woman, Rabastan had finally accepted the offer from the Puceys to escort Prisca. He had no plans to pursue her any further than what Rabastan usually obtained from women, but at least she was tolerable and not increasingly annoying by the second as were some people he was surrounded by, at work and in general. It did help that the woman was attractive, and probably one of the more sought after women in their circle of...appropriate ladies.

And, even then, Rabastan knew Prisca Pucey had a bit of a reputation.

He let her adjust his tie, not paying attention as his eyes scanned the party from behind his mask. He'd sardonically joked to Grayson earlier in the week that a skull-influenced mask would be slightly inappropriate.

"They call banging against a triangle music, these days," he drawled, finally looking down at her. Rabastan smirked, hand going to her elbow. "Is it all right, now?" though he knew it was.

"And this decor," Prisca added in disgust. It was nothing like a real ball. At least the company she kept had standards for this sort of revelry. Of course, she would have her nitpicks about the decor and atmosphere of a high society function as well. But she would never be positively revolted as she was now.

A delicious thrill went up her arm from where nimble fingers grazed over her skin. She would have needed to tip her entire face downward to glance toward the touch with the mask on so she refrained from doing so. A genuinely sly smile pulled at her lips as Prisca shamelessly laced her arms around Rabastan's neck and leaned-in on one heel while the other kicked up behind her.

Subtlety rarely took part in her game.

"Mmmm," she murmured thoughtfully with a tip back of her chin as she stared up into his eyes. "The decor is certainly more handsome. Though I am still terribly bored."

Rabastan was finding her rather...he supposed interesting was the word. Normally he would never allow his date to drape herself on him like Prisca was so deliberately doing, but he had always enjoyed being under a mask. It allowed him to do things he wouldn't do it public.

Well. Mostly.

One hand went to Prisca's waist to pull her a bit closer, as Rabastan did not want to seem eager. He wasn't, but that didn't mean he needed to put any thoughts into her head. No, no, he wanted to see where this would go if Prisca believed herself to be in control. It could prove rather, again, interesting.

"If you ignore the terrible lyrics and melodies, I suppose dancing is an option?" Rabastan smirked lightly under his mask, his free hand finding something interesting in the ends of her hair.
